I could be wrong, but I think a lot of this has been blown out of proportion. I've heard so many versions of this story, from more people than just Brian Williams, it's no wonder for the confusion.

Not at all. There is no reason for a journalist to insert himself into the conversation. I didn't even like it when he went on late night comedy shows. What's he doing there? Just tell us what happened or is happening. Make a cutesy joke here and there. Don't act like something your not and don't draw attention to yourself. Leave that to the Cable News Talking Heads and Olympic spots

Maybe you can clear it up then. The video I saw was on Letterman, he said "we were shot at by RPGS and small arms fire". And correct me if I'm wrong, but did the pilot not get a purple heart on the flight? Then again, I think I've heard there was four different pilots flying that hilo...

In all honesty I have bigger problems here... like will they reopen a Borders book store in New Zealand. I have written In & Out Burgers too... love that stuff.

All I know was the account has been so messed up based on his retellings that it is hard to tell. The original flub was that he was shot down in the helicopter. Yet the chopper he was in was about an hour away and didn't get hit. My friends in the army all tell me, you would remember if you got shot down in a helicopter!!

NBC has imposed this on him, so it's well deserved and appropriate.

More they dig, perhaps more they find. I am sure he has clauses within his contract where NBC can turf him for cause.

Perhaps Brian Williams and Hillary Klinton can get together in some dive pub and talk about old times and all the wonderful embellishments they have come up with over the years. After all, they have both claimed to have dodged sniper fire. :shoot :liar:stars:

Actually I wanted to get their perspective just in case there was a slim chance Williams actually has some mental brain damage and/or PTSD from the incident. They said, even if he did he might confuse the events and times that it happened, but he wouldn't confuse the fact that he was actually in the chopper. So there is no brain damage! At best sand from the blast could have hit him.

I could understand not realizing you are being shot at but nobody would mistake your chopper crash landing...

Good. Now they can get some fresh talent on MSNBC when they do the sort shakeup, people get mad they didn't get the bump up, and leave the network.

I have two comments/opinions about this.

1. I think he's done. I don't think he'll be coming back, because that will become just as big a news story in 6 months as it is now, so it will only pick the scab off the wound. Letting him back in the anchor chair would be a big hit to the networks credibility.

2. Because he wasn't fired, that leads me to believe that upper management at NBC News might very well have been involved in some of the "embellishments" by Williams, or at least had knowledge of them early on and chose to cover them up instead of coming clean to the public.

Yeah, I saw two different guys in different interviews, both claiming to be piloting the aircraft that Williams was on. One of them said that they had taken some small arms fire, but that the unit in front of them was hit by RPG. It seems to me that suspending him and calling him a liar, and especially a scumbag, is a bit much.

I hadn't heard that part. Did he also say his unit crash landed.

Its all politics. He walks away, they dont have to fire him and they dont look even more stupid keeping him on. If they fired him for lying about this, then it would be hard for them to not be equally critical of Hillary Clintons lies.

Here's a direct quote from Brian Williams.
"It could not have been a more foreign environment," he explained. "All we knew is we had been fired upon. All we knew was we had set down and then with the arrival of the sandstorm, how do we defend our little desert bivouac area. ... Because I knew we had all come under fire, I guess I had assumed that all of the airframes took some damage because we all went down."

Brian Williams says he first heard of chopper timeline last week - POLITICO.com

Sure it seems like a small mistake but he's been telling different stories on and off ever since, with none being exactly the same as the other. It would remain small if this happened last week (the helicopter event). But this story has changed a lot over 12 years!
