Brian Williams To Take Leave of Absence

Brian Williams is going down hard. This is really bad since he voluntarily did this:

Brian Williams Stepping Away From 'NBC Nightly News' Amid Scandal - The Hollywood Reporter

I wonder what will happen next :popcorn2:

I don't believe the "voluntarily" bit for a moment. He's embellishing again, pretending the fact that his ass is in a sling and NBC has launched an investigation into not only his Iraqi "experiences", but also several other rather dramatic moments involving himself that he's told over the years didn't push him, kicking and screaming, to the edge of a cliff. Once his toes were over the side, and pebbles falling from beneath his feet, he simply said, "All right, I'll jump. But I'm doing it voluntarily."

I really liked the guy, but no more. I'm dreadfully disappointed in him.

I am a sleptic here, I think the investigation and steping aside is only for appearances sake. He will be back, NBC has too much invested in him. He just signed a new contract taking him to the end of the decade.

He may very well be back, he'll just be back with zero credibility and questionable ethics. If that's what NBC wants to project, I wish them well.

He is a liar, you don't think your chopper was hit with an RPG, and forget. if that happens I bet you don't forget it ever. Come on man. He has no cred. Either can him or admit your news station has no cred.

Fox Newa will hire him and he will verify the WMD assertions by that network.

What really matters is ratings, ratings. That creditability stuff means nothing to the corporate media as long as the ratings are there. if they suffer, he will be gone. IMO

A leave of absence? What good is that going to do?

He'll be back...

The network will not fire him. People wont call for his termination. If they come down hard on him for blatantly committing an act of Stolen Valor, they will look extraordinarily stupid then endorsing Hillary for president.

I guess I shouldn't feel sorry for Williams, but I do anyway. He's correct; right now he is the news rather than reporting it, so he and his network need this leave of absence. But however much we love to see the mighty knocked off their pedestals, I think Americans are a forgiving folk and that if the mea culpas are sufficiently groveling enough, he'll be back.

"newa" not bad for a blind guy. "cheap shot"; not cheap at 1 trillion bucks and 70 to 90 thou. dead. Words may be cheap but not the actions. It's about credibility , ethics and trust; whatever your politics are.

Proven pathological liar = Obama White House Cabinet Nominee.

LOL !! " Bush lied people died " Huh ?? To think, in 2015 there are still left wing zombies out there that still parrot this ridiculous talking point. Hilarious.

Hmmm? Parrots are beautiful unlike that bird whose head is in the sand. 22 suicides a day; not so "hilarious". ISIS, not so hilarious.

We are not that forgiving. Once you do something such as this you wear that name tag the rest of your life. Just as Coach Belichick will forever be known as a cheater and Michael Vick as a dog abuser, Williams will forever be known as an embellisher.

NBC has to fire him. If not, their credibility takes a hit and they can't afford that.

He's damaged goods...plain and simple.

Wrong. I think credibility at least in Williams sake means a lot more than ratings. For Business NBC does care about the ratings and that is the only reason right now that he hasn't already been fired. But at this point it is damage control and they are not going to be able to contain the fire within the coming days. Once more and more people hear about it, the jokes start and he will no longer be taken seriously. I expect late night to be all over this Monday night.

You've got a kind heart, nota. I'm sure a lot of people agree with you, and I wouldn't be surprised if you end up being right. A lot of people will also feel as I do, betrayed by someone I looked up to and respected for so very long... who even when caught, couldn't shake off enough of that massive ego to make a simple but sincere apology. I certainly will never feel the same about him, and I find it difficult to muster a great deal of sympathy for someone with such profound hubris.

If he comes through this with his job in tact, I honestly hope he takes stock of himself and makes better choices in the future.

whoever compared scandal to a shark feeding frenzy(blood in the water) was a very perceptive person. You can almost feel this thing gaining momentum. and it's impossible to look away. Since the roman times the populace has been fascinated by the high and mighty being torn down and hallowed. It's real life theater. and are we not amused?
