Tillis: Restaurant workers shouldn't be forced to wash hands after bathroom breaks | Fox News

Tillis raised the issue when speaking Monday to the Bipartisan Policy Center in Washington. Restaurant chains such as Starbucks should be able to skip obligatory hand-washing by workers, he said, "as long as they post a sign" and take other steps to alert the public.

"Let them decide" such issues, Tillis said, adding: "That's probably one where every business that did that would go out of business. But I think it's good to illustrate the point, that that's the sort of mentality we need to have to reduce the regulatory burden on this country."

Well, a concerted effort hepatitis outbreak would cleanse the GOP of a lot of this stupidity.........

a sitting US Senator in 2015 thinks this.

`
One really does not want to shake the hand of GOP Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina.

Re: Tillis: Restaurant workers shouldn't be forced to wash hands after bathroom break

Wouldn't you have to regulate the warning sign? /:

Re: Tillis: Restaurant workers shouldn't be forced to wash hands after bathroom break

One grande, double shot staphylococcus comin right up sir, would you like a cranberry bliss bar to go with that today?

Re: Tillis: Restaurant workers shouldn't be forced to wash hands after bathroom break

Worked in a pizza shack for a time, and I am pritty sure that my boss would have fired me if I had made the pizzas without washing my hands.

But I do not doubt that there are enought sleazy and disgusting "restaurants" out there who dont care if their employees wash their hands or not.

Only the best and brightest.

This guy is a complete moron. He wants to reduce the regulatory burden and then turns around and states the restaurants would be regulated to have a sign displayed stating workers do not have to wash hands.
My god.

If you listen to what he actually said, he's using hand washing as a metaphor for government regulation and doesn't actually suggest that restaurant employees not wash their hand. in his example though he does replace the hand washing regulation with another regulation warning the public which would drive the market to reject any business that didn't assure that employees washed hands.

This is just more political nonsense for the weak minded who take things out of context.

Re: Tillis: Restaurant workers shouldn't be forced to wash hands after bathroom break

This isn't the way to come to the attention of the nation when newly elected. But I don't think it's going to change county health regs.

Of more real concern may be employees who don't wash their hands while prepping food. Many restaurants require gloves while preparing food but not while prepping.

Re: Tillis: Restaurant workers shouldn't be forced to wash hands after bathroom break

 The market can handle food safety.

Geezus I'm actually embarrassed for all of the clueless people who didn't even recognize that. It's as plain as can be.

Metaphor generally doesn't register with black/white thinkers. ;)

It is very difficult to get libertarian ideas through the thick skulls of liberals. They simply cant contemplate the idea of the state not regulating every aspect of life.

Still barking at the empty chair, I see.

Liberalism is the empty chair. Hmm. You know, kobie, you just might be on to something.

Whenever I hear something outlandish, especially on social media, my first impulse is always to find out what the real story is. I don't care if it's Tom Tillis or Hillary Clinton. It's generally pretty easy to find the truth. Nobody in their right mind would advocate restaurant workers coming out of a bathroom not wash their hands in reality. The disappointing thing is that people post these things without the curiosity to find out what the truth is.

Do I think that Tillis's example was good? Not necessarily because for small business, replacing one sign with another makes no sense. In general though, there are other examples where the market would do a better and more equitable job of managing business than government regulation. Farm price supports come to mind..

Well, it's about time you came to that conclusion about Fox "News".

No, I came to the conclusion about you frankly. I never followed the Fox news link because a friend of mine pulled this nonsense on FB and I was ahead of the story.

Im pretty sure he was saying you are a weak minded person that lacks the capacity to utilize reason and independent thought but didnt want to insult you. Of course...then you go and make your your retort about 'Fox News' and went right ahead and reinforced his initial statement. So...while you may not have dropped the glass slipper, you are damn sure working hard trying to get it on your foot.

Actually, you'd hate living in an unregulated society whether you recognise that or not.

Have to agree with that. I certainly don't want to (live in an unregulated society). With a small group, yeah, okay. But the size we are now, no way.
