'Unprecedented' rally is largest in France's history, officials say - Chicago Tribune

France's Interior Ministry said the Paris rally for unity against terrorism Sunday was the largest demonstration in France's history—a march organized to show harmony after three days of attacks that left 17 dead.

Calling the rally "unprecedented," the ministry said the demonstrators were so numerous they spread beyond the official march route, making them impossible to count.

French media estimate up to 3 million are taking part, more than the numbers who took to Paris streets when the Allies liberated the city from the Nazis in World War II.

This is how to deprive the terrorists of victory. For complete victory the news organizations world wide need to roundly condemn Islamic clerics who glorify violence and promote violence, and the governments should deport such people back to the dirty holes they came from.

Yeah, I bet the terrs are worried sick, over this.

Why are these cartoonists at Charlie Hebdo who incited these radical muslims to violence considered heroes while the maker of that video who supposedly caused all those muslim riots on 9/11/12 considered a villain?

A pity Obama could not attend, or send a senior representative. There were some 40 leaders in attendance.

I read that terrorists killed some 2.000 Africans yesterday. Pity the Europeans don't mention them more prominently.

Islamic extremism will continue to win until the "silent majority" of those that follow Islam quit being quiet and demand that their faith evolve and leave extremism behind. Until then, terrorists win.

Hello,

The cartoonists did not incite the Muslim attacks but were merely victims of them. We need to be careful that we always acknowledge that distinction.

Our Attorney General was in Paris but Obama decided he should not attend the massive protest against terror attended by world leaders from all parts of the globe proving beyond all doubt the President of the United States is a babbling imbecile and a disgrace.

"incited the radical muslims to violence" is what the pig muslims want their stupid troops to believe. The truth is the muslims CREATED the violence themselves so don't blame a person exercising their right to think.

You mean people actually believed that video to be the reason for Benghazi ?

Politics. ;)

It is also what Obama (and Clinton?) wanted the US voters to believe about the Benghazi "spontaneous protest". At that time (9/11/12) the selling of "UBL is dead, GM is alive and AQ is on the run" required that planned (AQ?) terror attacks against US gov't defended targets were no longer a problem.

Good Morning!
And who made the producer of the video a villain? The same person that was AWOL yesterday in France.
And boy is this administration getting a lot of flack over their absence in the news.

Did you see the Daily News this morning?

Good morning, Vesper. :2wave:

Shameful decision on our part! What on earth is wrong with Obama? His talk does not match his walk for some reason where these terrorists are concerned, and the world saw that. He wants cooperation - sometimes others do, too. Bad judgment shown here at a very important time. Why?

The only way to deprive them is to send them back where they came from, gain independence from oil, and block off all access.

Isolate the ME from the rest of the world.

No immigration from there unless the individual is highly desirable, no trading with the ME, no communication with the ME, etc.

They would regress to Mideval levels while sitting upon piles of their own useless oil. Laughable things like little illnesses would turn into epidemics that kill thousands. Food will be scarce with zero imports. There will be no escape outside of being a genius who can provide for another country. The masses would otherwise be bereft of everything.

The ME would rot until they finally decide to join the rest of the world and quit this nonsense.

Oh would that be a wonderful world, and a plausible one. We just need to stop feeding these oil tycoons...

Anyways...

Europe is weak, useless, and stupid if they think a prep rally will do anything.

His walk so far is bigger than his talk. He at least is ordering air-strikes on ISIS and has a garrison in the ME.

The french are doing nothing, like they have been doing for a while since WWII.

They can make some good cheese though

I was also disappointed that the U.S. had no senior officials at the rally. IMO, the President, Vice President or Secretary of State should have been there. As the Secretary was in India, it would have made sense for either the President or Vice President to have been there. While their absence doesn't have major substantive implications, it does have major symbolic implications at a time when it is essential that the world rally for the cause of free expression. Furthermore, France is a longstanding reliable ally.

Beats me why everyone in this administration failed to show up.
Heck Holder was already in Paris for a meeting and instead of joining the march, went to an interview taping on NBC.
Neither Obama or Biden had anything scheduled for yesterday. Not even golf.
Frenchy French Kerry was in India. It's an 8 hr flight from New Delhi to Paris. Kerry could have easily traveled to Paris for the march in the Boeing 757 we taxpayers provide for his travels, completely well staffed with all the comforts of home .

Furthermore, it does highlight (once again ) that the Obama administration does not always read international relations, that well.

Greetings, Luftwaffe. :2wave:

There are many countries that have joined in the fight, including France which has sent fighter planes to fight terrorism. What explanation do you have for America not joining those leaders who took the time to show their contempt for a group of terrorists that just killed 12 people over a lampoon, in addition to regularly beheading innocent people? Talk about "my way or the highway" thinking, and apparently Obama agrees with them! Why? He now looks bad before the civilized people of the world, but he doesn't represent the thinking of the majority of people in this country who are going to remember what stand he took if we are attacked! It would be ironic if a DC airport or a building in Washington becomes a target! Just saying....

What explanation do you have for the other countries not sending all their leaders after Sandy Hook?

Let the Europeans congregate over European problems and let the Americans congregate over American problems

Be careful with your speech.

One reason might be that Sandy Hook was not terrorism, but a deranged person with mental problems, the same as the idiot that shot Gabby Giffords, and sadly every country has those in their midst. The difference here is that these countries are condemning terrorism, and we should have joined them but did not. Will our attitude change if we are attacked, and can we then expect commiseration from the rest of the civilized world, or will it be a case of "well, it looks like it's their turn?" We shall see.
