Police chief accidentally shoots sleeping wife

I read a John Dunning novel where a couple had sex while holding on to a gun (her gun, actually). No idea if that is something people do or not! or, like you say, if people get shot doing it.

Fiction is fun....

I dunno. I think there are probably better sexual play techniques to get that near-death adrenaline rush, which aren't nearly as high-risk ;). If that was the case, then both of them truly were stupid.

Until otherwise shown, I'm going with the "doing something stupid (but not sexual) with the gun" theory.

Ha of course not! I dont have a spouse ;)

But I did, in my younger days back east, date a NYC cop and remember him putting this ankle holster and gun on the bed in the am when he sat down to put it on in the morning. Guess I'm glad he didnt want to kill me!

:eek:t

Sounds like the first sentence of a narrated crime novel ....

Ya' need a few more details for the first paragraph and the set up for the story.
(maybe tie in to this situation ... or maybe your details will better)

So lets hear 'em

Hmnmmm. Good point. So he's just incompetent at handling his gun?

Of course, it's possible that their sex play involves holding a gun, and someone turned wrong... and he doesn't want to admit they were having wild, crazy sex.

Holding guns as part of his job why would you want to come home from work and play a sex game that reminds you of work?

I disagree with what he does in his private bedroom has any business of his employer.

I would say shooting people in the bedroom is of very big concern to his employer.

LOL We were dating for awhile. He was an incredible over-achiever type-A sort who was accepted into IAB while we were going out. Pretty amazing since he had a deceased father who was brutal and had mob connections thru his sanitation job....whom he grew up with. *and the plot thickens*

I keep hearing a lot of people talking about police being highly trained. If only that were true. Reality is the vast majority of cops are no where near highly trained with a ton of departments only requiring their officers shoot only once or twice a year. Highly trained that isn't.

In my minds ear, I hear your almost sultry narration ..... and I wait...... and wait........for the rest of the story.

This has gotta' be good... remember, dictation is your friend .. it prevents carpel finger syndrome..

This is tougher than a Paul Harvey epilog..

It may be problematic when looking across all the departments out there, but it is not unreasonable to expect law enforcement to have a level of training with the tools they have over the general populace. Just as it is not unreasonable to expect the fire department to have a level of training with the tools they have over the general populace.

Our issue as it applies to this story of a police chief accidentally shooting his sleeping wife, is we do not have enough information yet for us to point to training (or lack thereof) being the factor we should be considering.

I don't buy it. Guns don't just go off normally. They go off because they are mishandled badly, and you'd think a sheriff ought to know better.

Now Glocks are kind of known for unintentional discharges. Still, sliding one across a bed sheet should not normally set it off.
Maybe the trigger got caught with a pillow or somebody's toe... either way, aren't Glocks supposed to be always holstered with the trigger guard protected? Thats what the Glock factory says.

Basic rule: never point the muzzle of a gun at anything you dont want to destroy.

Or at least aren't prepared to.

A firearm in bed is ALWAYS a BAD idea.

I do not own guns, I respect the rights of those who do. I do not own them because of the various stories I hear about accidental discharge.
I mean about regarding the gun, not the bedroom play

Maybe they were doing some sort of kinky sex bondage act with it in bed. ;)

Darned if I know. But I imagine there are people that do that! But pure speculation in this case. I have no idea what he was doing with the gun, the bed and his wife.

ROFL! nice one...

No surprise, a toddler at age 2 did it.

The toddler had no training in proper handling of firearms.

One would think that a Police Chief would have had such training.

...

My guess? He may have had the gun between the mattress and box spring. That's where I keep one, but I don't take it out and screw around with it. It stays there, so that I always know where it is. God only knows what he was doing with it, or what would be the purpose of moving it, but one of the problems with guns is that some people get sloppy and careless when they are too familiar with them. I always maintain a healthy respect for the damage that they can do.

Who the **** keeps a gun in the bed?

It becomes the business of the police when you shoot your wife....
