Scalise Allegedly Spoke with White Supremacy Group [W:22, 100]

Re: Scalise Allegedly Spoke with White Supremacy Group

I posted this in #89. I noticed no libs bothered to comment on it.
Well done, brudda.

Re: Scalise Allegedly Spoke with White Supremacy Group

They are all not answered in the link. The neighbor of Scalise is known white supremacist that had direct connections to David Duke. From Knights own statements Scalise knew that. Why would he agree to speak at an event for an organization that he knew his white supremacist neighbor and compadre with David Duke belonged to? That question is not answered. How can Knight and Scalise make the statement that he did not know EURO to be a white supremacist organization when the person who asked him to come speak at the event (Knight) was a white supremacist and friend to the most notorious white supremacist in LA politics? That does not make sense. Why would he not hold being a white supremacist against Knight particularly being a conservative politician with aims at higher office? That does not make any sense to me either. Both him and Knight make the claim that he (Scalise) did not know this was a white supremacist group...really...if he didn't know he damn sure should have given the fact that the person who invited him to speak at the event is a known white supremacist and friends with the David Duke the most notorious white supremacist if not in LA then whole nation. Again that makes no sense and Scalise needs to us why we should believe that.

Problem is assuming. While he knew Knight was a Racist, was he aware of what EURO was.
Many people would be unaware of EURO.
It was formed in 2001, he spoke there in 02.
Until I see more proof, I have no other choice but to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Re: Scalise Allegedly Spoke with White Supremacy Group

Kenny Knight has publicly stated that Scalise spoke to a small community group BEFORE the conference, not during it. According to Knight, Scalise spoke for about 15 minutes on tax issues. The American Red Cross also spoke before the group, as well as the Sheriff's Dept. on forming community watch groups.

Interesting point. Do you have a link for this?

Re: Scalise Allegedly Spoke with White Supremacy Group

Obama didn't make a speech to a hate group. He attended a church that the right-wing wants to hate, but of course that, like all the other lies that the right-wing tells went no place as well.

If it's anything like Jeremiah Wright's church, that'd be pretty extremist.

Why must conservatives deflect instead of asking that Steve Scalise take personal responsibility for his actions? Or is personal responsibility only for liberals?

Apparently you missed this part of the article:

All this episode demonstrates is that Scalise, like nearly all of us, cannot recall with 100% accuracy unremarkable events more than a decade ago. There's actually nothing to take responsibility for.

There's plenty to take responsibility for. At the very least, he owes it to his party to take away the appearance of impropriety. Appearances are what politics is about.

There was neither impropriety nor the appearance of impropriety. There was a false allegation, now debunked.

Re: Scalise Allegedly Spoke with White Supremacy Group

Holy cow!
Jack, have you heard the latest about Scalise?
He didn't do what they've said ... and he appears to have acknowledged for some reason ... crappy recollection perhaps?
It looks like another Rolling Stone-ish Jour-nail-ism eff-up ... the accurate story was uncovered by Slate, no less.
Happy New year.
In looking around this thread and another on this topic, a lot of people gave credit to Scalise for just stepping up and saying if he did speak to a group of racist, he regrets doing so. Now it looks like Scalise did not speak to this group, but the fact he addressed the allegations head on and quickly is supposed to mean he should still resign, or step down or go into hiding. Or something. Who knows what the outraged torch wielding villagers want? Mob mentality is never known for its consistency or logic.

You can turn that question right around and ask why Obama doesn't take personal responsibility for HIS actions?

Or is that only applicable to Republicans?

It'll be a fact years from now.

GOP Stand By Scalise, Waits For This Whole Thing To Blow Over.....

so it looks like this story turned out to be a big nothing burger. Republicans and Democrats came to Scalise’s aid, with Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-LA) saying that his colleague doesn’t have a “racist bone in his body.”

The Huffington Post reported that the person who set off this firestorm was a liberal blogger named Lamar White, Jr: You might remember White, who posted on his site CenLamar.com, for his defense of Wendy Davis during her 2014 gubernatorial campaign after she drew criticism for an ad that many said took a shot at Greg Abbott’s disability; Abbott is the Governor-elect of Texas, Davis’ Republican opponent, and confined to a wheelchair after a tree fell on him in 1984.....snip~

There are many extremist churches in the country: evangelicals are extremists. I don't put much credibility on the notion that Obama attended a "hate church". The right has been on him trying to tear him down since he took the oath of office: he was going to take the oath "on the Quoran"; remember? Black churches are a continuation of black history in this country. This country is rife with astounding contradictions and horribly unfair practices on the face our founding documents. So for a fire brimstone preacher to yell "God - damn - America" in the face of the facts only means that America is not what she's cracked to be and maybe God should be involved...

It is not an issue of assuming. First I would ask if you are politician, especially a politician with desires on higher office, why would associate with a known white supremacist. Second, if a known white supremacist ask you to come speak at group what would make you think that the group is not also associated with white supremacy. If you don't make that connection then that shows a complete lack of fore thought which is almost as bad as willingly speaking to a group of white supremacists. With all that said this directly refutes what Scalise as already stated on the subject. That he was asked to speak at the event by some unknown person and he left the vetting of that group to and unknown staffer. So now not only is he showing a complete lack of judgement but is then lying about it and throwing his staff under the buss while doing it.

He also said that we got what we deserved on 9/11.

Ah yes. The "hate America" rationale explained.

A lot of people think that. Most of Europe knows why it happened as well. Ya can't go around putting your thumb on people and expecting them to love you back.

Wrong again. Where did I say "hate America?" I think however that you hate America.

That makes Wright an ant-American piece of ****.

No; it only means that you don't get it. You guys never get it: that's why a lot people around the world are down on the US. Every time the cons get in control, we get into more trouble.

No, I get it. People who cheered 9/11 are anti-American.

I'm not the one defending a preacher who damns America. Case closed.

Yeah, those in the Middle East that cheered are anti-American. Who cheered 911 over here?
