I don;t think the guy is an uber liberal. Ethics is a big part of journalism, and a guy like that wouldn't be quoted if he skewed his reporting.

Problem is many (all?) of the major news agencies don't do journalism anymore.

That's very true. What used to be network News Departments have been shifted over to entertainment divisions. It's more about exploiting ratings these days. There are still however some very very good journalistic institutions out there however.

I am not ready to lynch the Congressman in the court of public opinion just yet. he says he was unaware that this was a white supremacist group when he spoke there. I will take his word for it.

Except He voted against making MLK day a national holiday. It was something like 90 votes for and he was one of the six that voted against. That's pretty bad.

Depends on his reason. Do you know what it was?

Do you realize how much it costs the taxpayers to fund a paid Federal holiday. Think of all of the Federal workers and the lost productivity that a holiday brings.

Many who voted against the MLK day did it for economic reasons not because MLK was black.

I'm in favor of the holiday. I just think the size of the voting margin is a weak reason to criticize.

Google every group...at the very least. David Duke was not in attendance. David Duke founded the group. David Duke is notorious in LA politics for his whit supremacist positions. I don't know about you but every group that I attend much less speak at I find out what the group is, what they advocate and at the very least who the founder/president of the group is. I then make a determination if I want to go to this group. This is called due diligence. Either Scalise knew it was a white supremacist group and didn't care and is now lying about it or he is woefully guilty of not doing due diligence. Either way it doesn't reflect well on him or his party as he is now in the leadership.

The greater good and what's right outweighs any economic excuses. This is just one more clear-cut example of Republicans being out of touch in regards to racial divisions.
Another is In 2002, Trent Lott’s praise for Strom Thurmond’s 1948 segregationist platform costing him his role as Senate Majority Leader. The Republican Party is nothing but angry out of touch white guys.

Frankly I'm not sure ANY "birthday of famous person" should be a national holiday.

Out of touch I'll give you, but I'm not so sure angry or white applies...or at least not entirely.

Sure are way too many out of touch idiots in both parties though.

Does that include Christmas and Jesus? Come on man, Dr. Martin Luther King was civil rights leader and a national hero. If anyone should be honored with a national holiday, it's him.
