Walmart customers “unruly” after store closes, police called

Commercialism and the fact that there are still a lot of assholes out there...

These hacks live in an echo chamber. It's been beaten into their heads repeatedly that liberals are to blame for EVERYTHING BAD that they are literally incapable of doing anything but regurgitating that. To them, it's truth, the ugly side of human nature boiled down to a catchphrase they can barf back up onto the forum any time, like a reflex, when they see something obviously bad. It's unbelievably frustrating, since it serves to do nothing but turn every thread into a ****ing cesspool where people who can think attempt to point out that it's utterly stupid, lest someone else be dissuaded by such infantile hackery.

Exactly. The blind singlemindedness of these anti-liberals is as predictable as it is ignorant. Any society that has two different ideologies is going to see conflict, and that conflict will create issues. Neither ideology is to blame; it's the conflict, and how significant that conflict is depends on how loud and how blind the extremists of each ideology are. Another poster started a thread about divisiveness... and then created divisiveness by his own extremist and misinformed post. What we see here is an excellent example of partisans who don't care one iota of looking for solutions; they just look at who to blame things on.

So, back to the thread concept. What do you think are some of the reasons that we see people having such an issue with gratification delay? I see it as a reaction to technological advances.

Partly that; partly that in an effort to feed our growing consumerism, these retailers have basically made it so they're almost ALWAYS open and what people want is nearly ALWAYS accessible. The urge for instant gratification only can be sated if someone is there to instantly gratify.

That's a really good point. About 20 years ago, there were 4 24 hour supermarkets within 10 miles of me. Now there are none. I often find myself getting angry at those supermarket chains for altering their hours and not being immediately accessible to my needs. This enhances my technology presentation and adds to it neatly.

It is true that standards of time have changed. I don't have to drive to the job interview the day before to make sure I don't get lost, or leave 2 hours early in case of traffic. I have apps on my phone that take care of that. They read my email and remind me of my job interview, tell me when it's time to go, and offer to give me navigation. And then there's Amazon Prime 2-day shipping and possible drone delivery of groceries.

But, all of that aside, I think it's important to remember that these people can probably just be summed up as assholes and idiots.

I say that our youth now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for their elders and love chatter in place of exercise; they no longer rise when elders enter the room; they contradict their parents, chatter before company; gobble up their food and tyrannize their teachers.

I did in post #21. I see the enhancements that technology has brought to us as being a major reason for difficulty in delaying gratification that many people have.

Look at the expanded Black Friday and (now) Thanksgiving hours. It's simply feeding the beast. And when you stop feeding the beast, you can't be surprised when the beast gets pissed.

All true. So much is automated for us that we have "started" to live in a society of entitlement. Used to be that one would remember how to get to a place... one would pay attention the first time. Now, we don't have to. Plug in the address each time. Entitlement and laziness.

But, all of that aside, I think it's important to remember that these people can probably just be summed up as assholes and idiots.

The incidents of it happening are generally so isolated and rare that the only way they seem common is because when it happens, it hits the internet because it's good clickbait.

I'm not saying it's common; I'm just offering an explanation for why it happens when it does.
