“The Interview” now available on Google Play and YouTube Movies [W:66]

It wont. New films released on PPV is simply not going to happen because the industry is living in the dark ages and refuses to adapt.

Until every single distributor adopts the Netflix format, movie and television studios will continue to suffer.

Problem with the "netflix" format, is that Netflix is actually crap, especially overseas.. old movies and shows. Hell when it launched in Denmark, the newest movie was 2 years old. It has changed now so the movies are only a little older than DVD releases, but still. It all comes down to copywrite laws and the ability of movie/tv companies to exploit outdated legislation.

There was a dark time when Netflix seemed to just stop updating their selection altogether but they've improved their act since then. It's far from perfect but their selection is actually comparable to if not better than Amazon Prime's selection. What you absolutely cannot beat is Netflix's user-friendliness, absence of commercials and competitive membership fees. It's essentially plug-and-play (so to speak) and the connection speeds and quality are great. If every distributor adopted such a system pirating would be isolated almost exclusively to those idiots who have to watch movies so soon they'll tolerate a shaky hand-held cam with god awful sound.

Actually they are not.

Netflix December 2014: Catch These Movies Before They Leave Instant Streaming : T-Lounge : Tech Times

Netflix removes movies all the time because their rights to said movies run out. I remember reading a few years ago when STARZ removed its shows from Netflix.

Amazon Prime is extremely limited overseas... in fact I think it is only in 4 countries. Again it comes down to copywrite.

I dont disagree one bit. Spotify cut piracy massively in the areas where it operates when it had its unlimited free with ads service. Providing access the way the consumer wants it and as fast as possible is the key to curbing piracy on movies and TV shows. Look at Taylor Swift when she removed her songs from Spotify.. bet the piracy of her new album exploded.

I would gladly pay 10 dollars a month to be able to watch my favourite US TV shows the day after they have been shown in the US. Instead I have to wait weeks or much longer to get my TV show fix and then only have it shown on TV at the TV channels convenience and not mine.... not likely! :)

Quick on demand service could be a freaking goldmine for the industry but they are stuck in the dark ages.

Err the Sony servers where the hacking was done against were located in the US. So that has absolutely nothing what so ever to do with it.

I'm not sure what you are saying but the hackers were the foreigners, not the servers.

As I understood you, you were theorizing that the reason that this movie was only released online in the US, was to protect the streaming services from hackers. That is simply not true.
