What do you think? Has "religious freedom" gone too far?

Satanic Temple display approved for Florida Capitol

TALLAHASSEE — Unlike last year, a Satanic Temple display will be officially welcome inside Florida's Capitol during the holiday season.

And Festivus, a non-commercial festival "for the rest of us," will be back as a 6-foot stack of empty beer cans. Also expected are a pair of nativity scenes.

The Florida Department of Management Services this week approved a holiday display from the Satanic Temple, which a year ago was rejected because the agency said it was "grossly offensive."

Some people don't think it should happen -- Satanists Win the Right to Place ‘Grossly Offensive’ Holiday Display Next to the Nativity Inside Florida’s Capitol

Anybody want to bet that some "real Amurrican" will deface or damage the display?

Sounds swell to me.

They might have a legal right to do so, but that doesn't make it any less childish. Satanists are your trolls of the religious sphere.

Hard to say. My guess would be that if that happens, it will most likely be a kid (teenage or young adult) that does it.

Maybe they just have parental authority issues.

Maybe it shouldn't have been but this was probably the last thing I expected you to say.

The responses at the Blaze are the kicker:

I mean statistically speaking satanism and christianity stand the same chance of being remotely right.

0.00%

JESUS GOD, YOU ARE OUR HOPE.
IN YOU do we trust.
It’s really getting time to kick down here, LORD.
Whenever YOU ARE READY.

 :lamo

In this case, the satanists put up their display and hide. If anyone knows who belongs to this satanist church, please publish their names and addresses. Their parents and employers must be so proud!

Hey, satanists, discover when he was born, and celebrate that day!

Free speech is for everyone and all groups,” Americans United executive director the Rev. Barry W. Lynn said in a statement. “

True, up to a certain point.

This paves the way for “Groups” like NAMBLA, etc. to have a display in public.
Nice going….

I guess I look at it this way, they put a totally repulsive display near our baby Jesus…….which one will you be ohhhhhing and awwwwwing over.

Absolute gold.

I guess there wasn't enough outrage for Hatuey's taste so he had to go find some elsewhere. Too funny.

You're wrong. Your boring posts just didn't match up to the stupidity of your Christian brethren at the Blaze. :)

Would it really be that much different than allowing people to display totem poles or fertility masks in public places? Perhaps exposing ourselves to other people's beliefs through observing their paraphernalia outweighs our opinions on whether or not Satanism is a religion or a manifestation of a sexual fetish.

We need a shinto group so we can put penises everywhere

I don't want the government attacking or preventing my rights to religious expression, wouldn't want to wish that upon the satanists either.

Not everywhere--just in their allotted square footage of the public exhibit. We have to save room for the Sufi to erect a display too.

Giant penises in the allotted space.

Sounds like the plot of a potential porn movie..

You could make a penis tree, but people might think it is a sea urchin exhibit or something. Maybe a cornucopia shaped like a vagina spewing lots of penises

To which society shakes their head at the folly ...

Which is pretty much an admission of what I said. There was no one here to needle so you went some random place, quoted some random people and responded to them instead.
