Kennesaw City Council rejects mosque proposal

Whatever flips your switch. It doesn't much matter to me how you treat Christians.

Yeah, only the majority gets to be tyrannical. I'm sure you love it.

That they think they're doing right does not remove the town's right to restrict their false religion.
There is nothing false about Islam being a religion.Islam is just as much as a religion as Christianity,Mormonism, Catholicism, Judaism and so on.

a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.
2.
a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects:
the Christian religion; the Buddhist religion.
3.
the body of persons adhering to a particular set of beliefs and practices:

We recently got to go to Little Five Points. Now THAT place has a culture of it's own. If you like people watching it's a fun day trip. Some good food there too. It's got the hippy feel of Asheville NC turned up to eleven.
Little five sucks these days. The only thing that isn't a tourist trap is junkman's daughter

Now back when I first saw kmfdm ... That place was so different with the wiccan and other types of shops

The new place is in south Atlanta.

Is the proposed facility in Kennesaw private property? Because if so, your analogy is flawed.

The 2nd amendment makes no distinction between and bearing arms on public or private property. I could be wrong but I didn't see small fine print that says only your property following the right of the people to keep and bear

Municipalities have had zoning restrictions for hundreds of years. Wheaton Illinois may never have a bar that serves liquer. Not because it is illegal but because zoning ordinances prohibit a bar from openng within a predetermined distance of a church or school. It just so happens there are so many churches and schools that there is literally no physical location to legally open a bar. Perhaps Kennesaw has an ordinance that will not allow a place of worship within a perdetermined distance to a gun store or range and they are just all out of space. ;)
Religion is protected in the bill of rights, liquor is not.

Ah yes, another reminder about the lovely attitudes in this lovely state.

Oh, so you have the right to bear arms on my property eh?

Good that you know that. Many of the posters here think that all of Georgia is a backwoods trailer park full of civil war reenacters with mullets.

:lamo So true!

Nope! Definitely it's not. Not even close! :bootyshake

As for laws, well our current President has taught us that laws we don't like won't be enforced. Hey, he set the precedent. Don't like a law? Ignore it until your decision gets overturned in court.

I wouldn't blame Obama only. I think the system has been headed that way for awhile, now. Hadn't considered that POV before --- but I can see that area being more inclined to vigilante justice.

Cumming looks like any suburban area in American complete with retail shopping as far as the eye can see. They have a Rosatl's Pizza there where we can finally get real Chicago food.

I know that place! The folks are big fans of Nick n' Jim's BBQ around the corner...
(Not to derail thread... Just nice to be reminded of home) :)

But if you have spent enough time here you may understand how it could very well be for their own good. The art of deception thru semantics is largely lost here.

Either 1) They can spot pure BS from a mile away, or 2) They have no clue what you're talking about. While I believe #1 is the majority...

Either way-- outcome is the same.

Sugar coated bull**** is a northern dish imported from california.

Here's where we disagree.

As a current Oregonian, I can attest that here ( and at least Northern Cali) you won't find much sugarcoated anything...

The produce rocks all by itself!

Wow you're intellectually dishonest.

Islam is a false religion, yet it is really a religion.

Geocentrism is a false model of the solar system, yet it is really a model of the solar system.

And I can find some random person demanding that Christianity become the official language of the United States. Hell there's a thread of people who think mosques shouldn't be allowed to be constructed in the United States. (screw the first amendment, I guess)

How many people say this? And what do they mean by a "sharia court?" Because folks like yourself will pick out the most heinous parts of the Quran and assume that "sharia court" includes that, but if I do the same regarding the Old Testament, I'm a bad person apparently.

So I need more details.

In any case, who cares if some religious people want to enforce their religion onto everyone else? Just don't let them do that. In America, we have this thing called the constitution. If we stick with it, we wont have a problem with sharia law, or jewish law, or buddhist law.

Using science to validate your ridiculous claims about what constitutes a real and false religion? Ballsy....

You claimed Islam is a false religion.I proved you wrong by providing you a definition of religion. How does Islam not meet the definition of religion?

Oh, so you have the right to bear arms on my property eh?

Some states allow private property owners to ban firearms on their property, some do not. Those of us who carry are under no obligation to help you if need be, and the SC has ruled that the police have no such obligation either.

Isn't that what you are basically doing with Muslims? A tiny minority who happen to be crazies and you are lumping them in with all Muslims as though somehow Muslims are prone to terrorism. The vast majority of Muslims are not terrorists just like the vast majority of Catholics are not pedophiles, vast majority of cops are not corrupt, the vast majority of conservatives are not racist, the vast majority of those opposed to war are not Code Pink and so on.

Why take a chance that the mosque a bad one if you don't have to?

The root cause is people being overly freaked by a statistically insignificant number of deaths.

I hate that people died, of course, but our reaction was disproportionate to the damage and we lashed out emotionally

'Our' reaction [the political reaction] was not about the number killed or the destruction done, it was jumping at the chance for the Elites to gain more power and control over the citizenry.

The way you are acting irrationally about Muslims is the same way many anti-2nd amendment loons act about guns. You probably have better odds of having sex with hot twins, winning the lotto and having your dick sucked by Mila Kunis(maybe those things are a bit of stretch) than being killed in a mass shooting or being murdered by someone with a gun. But but yet those anti-2nd amendment loons act as though mass shootings happen every second and that neighborhoods are piled with the bodies of those murdered by someone using a gun.

The good people of that community have a right to security and peace in their own neighborhood. If not having a mosque there made them feel better, who are we to say otherwise.

Don't over think what I'm trying to say here.

They are not "building a mosque". Why are so many who comment in this thread seemingly incapable of reading the OP's linked article?

Here in our area, churches often start in strip centers until they get the funds to build a free-standing building. Likely what they were doing here.

Why take a chance that the mosque a bad one if you don't have to?

Not all Muslims are terrorists, but it appears the vast majority of terrorists are Muslim. Is that a chance we are willing to take in your own town? Especially when these acts of terror are not denounced by the rest of those "moderate" Muslims? It seems like being "fair" is the issue, but it is only considered the right thing to do in someone else's town. Case in point the Keystone Pipeline. It is reasonable that the pipeline would be good for the country as a whole and that we already have thousands of miles of pipelines that have a very low failure rate, and yet it is opposed by locals. Always me me me first.

A couple of years ago we had the Westboro Baptists here to protest the "Diversity Club" in our county high school, a club for gay and lesbian students. We ran them out of town. Not the kids, the protesters. We now have a club for gay and lesbian kids in our high school. So much for conservative Christians hating on gays... They are our kids and we love them. I know that doesn't fit the narrative, but hey, that can be ignored in order to continue pushing a false narrative.

Your flawed assumption is that mosque =danger

Also yes I can say otherwise due to a little thing called the first amendment

Sounds like an emotional response. HOPE
Reasonable assessment actually

If the political situation becomes fractious enough the nationalist party will win more of the electorate and deal with it

It's fun to watch self proclaimed atheists who spend their time trolling Christians defend Islam in today's climate as though freedom of religion really means anything to them to begin with.

That was exactly my point in some earlier posts...Contempt for thee but not for them.

Yep, defending the right of one group to gather in worship must mean I really really hate some other group. What's that old saying about making assumptions?

The funny part for those of us on the outside is the similarity of positions held by fundamentalists of Muslim and Christian stripe, yet the two claim they are so different.
