At that range its hard to eyeball. There are rules you can use (height of your thumb, size of target through mil dots, etc) but range estimation alone is an art form. Then you have windage, altitude, temp, barometric pressure, and the coriolis effect coming into play. Its truly a cerebral hobby.

No, its a military term for a military weapon. Its not, as implied, used by civilians to kill civilians.

an assault rifle is an actual military term involving a rifle capable of select fire, using an intermediate (between a pistol round like a 9mm and a full battle rifle cartridge such as the 30-06, 8mm, 7.62 NATO or the 303 Enfield) and normally of carbine size (under 9 pounds or so and sorter than, once again, a battle rifle such as the M98 Mauser, the MI Garand or the British Lee-Enfield.

now assault weapon is a BS term that has no real accepted definition, is used by anti gun assholes to demonize common semi autos and is really incapable of being effectively used for a military assault tactic

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)-Police are investigating an overnight homicide in south St. Louis. It happened around 1:15am Sunday on Gravois and Itaska, near Bevo Mill. A man, identified as Zemir Begic, 32, was struck on the head, face, mouth, and abdomen. He was taken to a hospital where he died of his injuries.

An investigation determined that Begic was in his car when several juveniles came up on foot and began to strike the car. Begic got out and the four suspects began yelling at him and hitting him with hammers. After the assault, the four ran away.​

I actually keep a Dead On Framing hammer on a hook on my bedside table. I know many got to have that gun next to you and I do but they are in closet.
If I did have a rude interruption to my sleep I know that with this 18 inches reach I could do some nasty dental work to some moron.

I do know that if they have a gun and shoot me in my sleep then it is what it is. Just as some drunk crossed the road and kills me head on then it is what it is.

i knew the minute i clicked on this thread that the attackers would be minorities and probably teenagers, and that the race of the attackers was probably the motivation for posting the thread. i was correct in both cases.
