Photo of boy hugging officer at Portland's Ferguson protest goes viral

I totally agree with Navy Pride.

This world could use a lot more love and cooperation and a lot less hate and conflict.

That day will come, but it's going to take some work.

Happens everyday. Hate and conflict make the news, love and cooperation doesn't.

Except when someone (Like Navy Pride, for example.) thinks that it's important enough to tell people about.

If you notice his pattern is to always made a snide slam at someone else then talk about the wonderful boy and cop. Even though it was a feel good pic he didn't waste an opportunity to show his bitterness and take a pot shot at others.
It is indeed a great photo and story. There was no need to show disdain for others.

Its a beautiful picture that reflects the hopes and frustrations of entire debacle. We are all just people.

Shrub and I don't agree on a lot of things but we are in agreement on this one..........Thank you shrub.:applaud:cheers: Maybe if we work on it we can more issues to agree on.

Great pic Navy...Keep hope alive.

2015 is coming and this is one of the best of photos of 2014.

Wait until Navy Pride finds out the kid is a Democrat.

Boooooo.

Can't there be one nice positive and relatively bipartisan thread about a cop hugging a young black man rather than shooting him?

That was just one of the things that I liked about the post.

With all of the negativity that's going on right now anything positive about race relations really stands out.

That was just one of the things that I liked about the post,

What struck me was the sensitivity of the 12 year old to be crying while offering free hugs. It's a humble attitude like that that could really make a difference. Corny as it is, the phrase "and a child shall lead" comes to mind.

The kid's guts were more impressive, given the correct environment.

Maybe not but this little newspaper report will probably just send him into a frenzy.

The boy’s mother, Jennifer Hart, who is white, wrote on social media that her son had been struggling with issues of police brutality and racism.

Devonte is one of six children adopted by Hart and her wife, Sarah Hart, of West Linn, a suburb of Portland.

Actually, he is hugging him because the cop just let him off of a pickpocket charge.

Nah...just kidding.

It's a nice picture.
