Cleveland boy with fake pistol killed by police

Re: The next Ferguson ?

They rolled up on a scene were it was reported there was a man with a gun pointing it at people. Rather than park a few hundred miles away and risk having a potentially dangerous man with a gun on the loose, they pulled up to the gazebo. While they were pulling up to the gazebo, the guy got up, walked towards then, and pulled up his shirt in what sure looks like an attempt to reach for the weapon that they were told he had. Quick set of circumstance...no doubt.

You say 'processing' like he didnt know already that what he was doing was dangerous. His fried had told him what he was doing was stupid and could get him shot. His friend was right.

You want to make sure the cops are dead tired when they finally reach the scene? :2razz:

Re: The next Ferguson ?

kid went for the gun in his waistband, it's clear in the video. Remember, you have the rest of your life to win a gunfight.

You ever notice how surveillance videos really suck. It's like they use cameras from the early 1900's. Where is the HD quality? The video was high contrast and fuzzy as hell.

cost to store HD video is prohibitive for most applications. plus retrofitting hd can be a bitch.

Okay, even hi-fi or something with better fidelity. This is worse than when Armstrong stepped onto the Moon.

Re: The next Ferguson ?

Dude, there are so many places you can get a 1911.

I have 2 from Kimber a desert warrior, and an ultra eclipse II

Wilson combat would build you whatever you wanted.

You missed the original convo. I have quite a 1911 collection. But the gun shown was a replica of a "long slide" with a rail ahead of the trigger guard. Dude.

Re: The next Ferguson ?

This is really a tragic story and I noticed the article didn't say how many rounds were fired at the boy.

While there are legal ways to rationalize a justification for the officer shooting, still, I don't like it. A lot. In the past, basically every boy played with toy guns outside and none had red tips. Hell, a red tip doesn't even mean it's fake. Why were those kids of generations past routinely gunned down then too? Something's very wrong with that happening.
In the past, we played cowboys and indians, cops and robbers, hell,we even had bayou wars. But this wasnt that. Our games were mutual audience participation events. The pictures very clearly show that the 12 year old kid was intentionally threatening total strangers. The cops werent called because kids were playing hitman together in the park.

Re: The next Ferguson ?

Oh, cops are supposed to be able to identify every gun on the market and how long they were?

You do know there are many makers of 1911 these days,
Wasn't part of the conversation. I said "I" may hesitate to shoot for a bit if I saw a hand gun that I don't think exists in the real world. At least not without a ton of custom work.

Re: The next Ferguson ?

Bottom line, that toy gun didn't have the orange tips. I think cops are trained to look for that, and if they don't see it, then they are automatically going to assume it's a real gun. I don't think it even comes into their mind "what gun is it".

Where in the video did the officers have the chance to see the tip of the BB gun? So the tip color is completely irrelevant.

Re: The next Ferguson ?

I remember when I was a kid, playing cowboys and indians, and cops and robbers, I always had a toy gun in my hand. We kids always played our games at the public park. Cops frequently drove by, and never gave us any problems. Of course, we were all white too.

You would not have been able to tell in those moments or even if you hesitated.

Hesitate all your want. You have the rest of your life to win a gunfight. *shrug*

report of a gun, kid goes for said gun, I shoot.

No hesitation.

And holding cheap fake plastic guns, not replicas of real 1911 handguns.

This kid wasn't playing Cowboys and indians, he was playing felonious menacing with a gun.

No, it's not. The people he was threatening would have known it wasn't a high velocity gun. 911 would have never been called.

Sorry, didn't know you knew my experience. I never said, "don't shoot". Only, if you had read my original statement. That if I got a quick glimps at it. I "may" hesitate.
Now if it comes to bear with no indications of it being real or fake, I would drop the kid too.
Let me know the next gun fight you have been in. Then tell me how your Jamber does.

I don't think that would be prudent, that thing is real enough that you would not be able to tell if it's real or not by lenght of barrel or rail, if you did, it would be a guess and not made on "experience" or "knowledge".

My gun fighting days are long over my friend. lol.

I've had no problems with my kimbers, I did have bill wilson do some work on the ultra eclipse..

I just plink and range shoot now. But all the "cool kids" show up with Kimbers and don't understand they take a break in period. Like a Para.
My Colts have run right out of the box. Defender, Commander, (both stainless) and my 70. Heck even my Rock Islands perform.
But Kimber has all the "cool names" I guess. So people buy them in droves.

"colt" is what's en vouge and hot now, just like kimber was a few years ago. I like colt. I like my kimbers better.

I have had Colts for 30 years. I never knew they were out of vogue? I got in to some Rocks for a cheap truck gun. I was really surprised. I had a Springer for a short time. It was OK.
Bought my step son a Para GI two years ago. Now he wants a compact.

I have been kicking around a rail gun buy. Just not sure I really need it. Not that, that should stop me.

Re: The next Ferguson ?

Or I could really lose my mind and run around the corner to Pistol Dynamics and leave divorced.
LOL

The 1911 you keep by your bedside should have a rail and a flashlight.,

my point on colt was they are the **** again over the last couple years at arfcom (the m4's always, but the 1911 have had some resurgance.)

Save it for training, owning is only half the battle, even after the fun is over.
