NFL suspends Adrian Peterson without pay for at least rest of regular season

I'm more than aware of their motivations. I even said as much by saying they were motivated to act because of their consumers. I just think their consumers need to focus on the game.

The consumer is there for a show, and since Peterson can still put up pretty good numbers the last time I checked(it's been a while admittedly) they have no reason to think he wouldn't be worth the ticket price.

It's a goddamn transaction for entertainment, not a goddamn morality convention.

Yeah, well, the marketplace has clearly made a decision that doesn't reflect your personal belief. It happens. I don't think people should pay what they pay for Apple computers, but they do.

It's a friggin' business! Deal with it....just like Macy's, McD's, or 7-11.
Peterson's actions reflect on that business and not in a positive way. They have every right to do what they did.....grow the f*** up, dude.

That I disagree with apparently society that this behavior should cause him to not able to run a football for a living.
Than you should start your own football league and run it how you wish.

I figured as much.
Than why play the game?

the only reason you can run a football for a living is because people are willing to pay you to do so. you sometimes have to do things that society supports even with no government intervention. Sorry to break this to you now.

But I would get the same fans. Your plan wouldn't work at all. :/

Than why play the game?

What do you mean? I enjoyed the spelling check error.

I seriously do not understand how it reflects on the NFL. It was an action done in Peterson's free time. The NFL had nothing to do with it.

It would appear we both have a problem with some consumer decisions being irrational.

Wait, a libertarian admitting that the market does not always make the best decision?

Sure, the NFL didn't personally assist Peterson in beating his children stupid, but if you're gonna go out there and suspend guys like Josh Gordon for a whole season (now 10 games) or fine a guy hundreds of thousands of dollars for wearing the wrong color socks how can you condone child abuse as a company?

Ummmm, being employed by the NFL just might show how it reflects on the NFL.
I have a feeling you're just gaming us, nobody is that dense.

Sure, why not? I would be ignoring history and basic human nature if I claimed markets were perfect.

The NFL is making fools of themselves trying to punish players for crimes being handled in court.

Actually it's the opposite from what I've seen and been hearing.
But, sometimes people tend to discard the facts when the facts don't lean towards their premise.

Some people are. Get used to it, lol.

Seems to this opens the door for Ray Rice to come back next season.

No, they're listening to their pocketbooks. Which is indirectly listening to their fans.

Who thinks Peterson is done permanently?

If someone as average as Dante Stallworth can kill a man and find himself onto an NFL team afterwards, I have no doubt in my mind a future Hall of Famer in Adrian Peterson will be suiting up for an NFL team some time in the next season. Whether or not it will be in a Vikings uniform is up in the air, honestly.

The environment is different now, we just had an asshole beat a woman in an elevator....and the football caught hell for not taking immediate action.

Sure, they caught hell, but nothing really changed. Roger Goodell still calls all the shots and the Owners will continue backing his judgment (as suspect as it might be) as long as the NFL as a whole keeps their endorsements and profits. People are going to forget this story and Adrian Peterson will most likely suit up for the Bengals or the Patriots by the 2015 season.

Or if the NFL really want to punish him force him to play for the Raiders.

We will take him. And Incognito too.

Independent arbitration for the Rice case may discover that Goodell knew about the video. That would be the end of his reign.

What does beating your kid have to do with running a football? Sorry, but I still don't get what his job has to do with how he treats kids.

Would you have someone that beat their kids working for you?
