There is debate on the offensive nature of the name of the football team. Some say it is, some say it isn't. It's an old name, and wasn't initially chosen out of disrespect to any group.

Calling a group of people you detest "white crackers", and then feigning ignorance and actually claiming you thought it was a "term of endearment", is just beyond comprehension.

These 2 debates aren't even in the same hemisphere.

Bringing the Redskins into the discussion is an ineffective means of distracting from the senior Congressman making a major mistake, disparaging Americans with a slur, and then trying to double down on everyone's stupidity to try to cover it up.

Smart people ain't buying what Rangel's selling.;)

If a derogatory slur is wrong, then it's wrong. It doesn't matter if you're Rangel or the NFL.

Political party is not a shade of grey. Rangel is a D therefore all the R's have their panties in a wad. The Redskins are one of the current "causes" that the right is espousing right now. That's what this is really about.

Hey, I'm from Georgia and grew up rooting for our AA Southern League baseball team, the Atlanta Crackers. Heck back in the day of Negro Leagues, Atlanta was home to the Atlanta Black Crackers. so which one was Rangle talking about?

Regardless though, he was obviously being racist. It's just as unacceptable as if someone used any other racial slur, especially when it's done to mock others.

Bold: A party name isn't. Members with in the party are.

Underlined: Considering how often those D's love to call those R's racists I can't really blame the R's for showing that the D's are just as capable of racism. The fact that you do shows what side of the aisle that you're on.
