A suicide bomber on Monday blew himself up during a school assembly in northeastern Nigeria, killing at least 47 people and showing how an Islamist insurgency is apparently drawing young, radical and educated people to its ranks.

The explosion took place shortly after a morning assembly began at the Government Senior Science Secondary School in Potiskum in Nigeria’s northeastern Yobe state, said Nigeria Police Spokesman Emmanuel Ojukwu. He reported 79 injured, in addition to 47 dead.

Although no group claimed responsibility, the attack appeared to be the latest on Nigeria’s schools by Boko Haram. In February, the group entered a vocational college dormitory in the northeastern town of Buni Yadi and shot 29 teenage boys in their beds.

Two months later, it kidnapped 276 teenage girls from a boarding school, in an attack that saw the U.S. send manned surveillance flights to help find them. At least 218 are still missing.

In a twist to its violent campaign of targeting students, the group appears to have used a student as its assailant. The bomber who detonated himself on Monday wasn’t just a Boko Haram member—he was also enrolled at the school, said Mr. Ojukwu, the police spokesman. His dual identity highlighted how Nigeria’s overcrowded, struggling schools haven’t only been targets for Boko Haram, but also recruitment grounds.

Even though they fight each other more than us, clearly all we need to do is sit down and sing hippy songs together. Then they will see its just a big misunderstanding.

Thankfully that happened in Africa, so we don't have to do anything about it. Maybe if they get some oil, we'll become interested in bringing some Freedom and Liberty.
