Saira Blair Becomes Youngest Elected Politician in US

Cute, but fail, like the kid's post.

You need to learn what "I don't care for" means too, apparently.

I think the point is, how can you support any politician that is so authoritarian that they are against legal recognition of same sex marriage. Social Conservatism is by definition authoritarian. The few real libertarians I have known pretty much agreed with liberals on social and defense spending issues and conservatives on most fiscal issues. However, I have known a lot of typical Republicans that call themselves libertarian that agree with Republicans 85% of the time but call themselves libertarian because they personally could care less if gays can get married and are against the drug war. Just saying..

What does libertarianism mean if you can support a politician that believes its the governments role to impose their religious or cultural views on others?

Your post is a lie.

I said I don't care for her opposition to SSM.

I don't have to choose words better. I assume people are smart enough to know what the phrase means.

Go away.

 misunderstanding

I said I don't care for her opposition to SSM. Did it not make sense the first time I said it?

First year she can legally vote and she wins a seat in the West Virginia House of Delegates. Wow!

Not particularly a fan, especially when it comes to her social issues, but I wish her the best of luck. We could use more young people in office!

College student is now youngest elected politician in US | MSNBC
I do like seeing young people in office. But man. Her social stances are that of an 80 year old.

Reading through her "uncompromising principles" made me sick to my stomach.

I am all for young people in politics, but 18 is a bit too young. I think you need to be out of the house and in the real world working, paying taxes, paying rent or house payments, and so on before you enter into politics. Otherwise you have no idea what its like to be some average Joe trying to make it in the real world - which is exactly the problem with some old gray haired career politician.
So students in universities should not have someone like them as a representative? I'm not sure I agree with that. Should everyone in legislatures be this young? Hell no. But should we have some more diversity in age? I think that would do some good.

Let's Go Mountaineers.

Hope it works out for her.

Sometimes peppermint settles a queasy stomach. In the meantime, would you prefer that this just-turned 18-year old be as craven and "compromising" as so many older politicians are?

Yeah, no. 18 is way too young to hold any kind of public office. It has been scientifically proven that the human brain doesn't reach full maturity until age 25. I could never vote for anyone that young. What life experience does she even have? Isn't she still living with mommy and daddy?

No. I would prefer she be "uncompromising" about the right principles.

pro gun is good. the opposition to same sex marriage is silly. No one is hurt in the least by state law recognizing gay marriage

She's sooooo young and still in college. I bet as she starts seeing the world for herself and not from the colored lenses that her family has provided for her thus far, I bet her views will change quite a bit.

I can't wait to see her make her head go all the way around. Oh wait. That was Linda. Linda Blair.

I just met Linda Blair two weeks ago. OT I know... She was at the Santa Fe Comic convention raising money for some dog charity of some kind.

meh... I got what you were saying but if you read it, it could be taken either way. Could mean "I don't care that she is for or against it... doesn't matter to me." which is the way I think they took it when reading that sentence.

She's a kid. Everything is written in stone mentally at that age. She will compromise when she realizes that everything isn't black and white and written in stone.

Head football coach is from the division II football team Valdosta State. It's where I grew up. I'm a fan of his especially seeing him make these big upsets and almost make bigger upsets. Looks like you guys did well in picking him up.

I could never vote for an 18 year old to represent me. She has no life experience, and her opinions will undoubtedly change as she matures. She is also in college, so she has to balance being a college Freshman with learning the ropes of the House of Delegates.

She doesn't know what it's like to buy a house, pay bills, try raising a family in the current economy, etc.

I read her campaign page, and I was unimpressed.

West Virginia has a part-time legislature and most legislators have full-time jobs. If elected, I will attend WVU during the Fall Semester, defer the Spring Semester and attend summer classes. I already know the ropes and I can multitask too.

Trust me with your vote and I will make you proud!

That reminds me of my nieces begging for a puppy, saying they clean up and completely take care of it. It's easy to say, but it's hard to do. She is starting college and major role in her community at the same time. I would have been hesitate to vote for her.

Then she sites her work experience:

Student Teller for Eastern Panhandle Federal Credit Union
Apple Crest Orchard
Sunset Water Services

I just don't understand why the people in her district voted for her...

So, she's out of touch? Hell, that's 98% of the clowns that are in office, anyway!

Great news, another glass ceiling shattered.

We should all pray they don't eviscerate her.....

member of a political family... I'm sure she's gonna be well protected.

No.

Old white guys know what's best for the youth of America.

It was that way during the Vietnam era, when they knew that the draft was character building, even when it ended in a body bag.

Youth are part of the fabric of society, they deserve a voice.

But look at this, she's 18, has shattered a major glass ceiling, done a first like Rosa Parks and the focus gets shifted to ONE issue...her stance on SSM.

Oooh...

Come on petty people. I have supported what I called gay marriage since about 1997, people in my church oppose it. I still like them, although misguided. This "girl" did what nobody this forum could ever hope to do.

She deserves some respect for that. I mean people were orgasmic when Obama got a Democratic Senate Nomination HANDED to him without lifting a finger...

1) I don't think I've read anybody in this thread disrespect her. Disagree with her perhaps but not disrespect.
2) "like Rosa Parks"? Really? Come on with the stretch.

Your lean says libertarian and yet you don't care that this woman doesn't want to give gays their rights...

Do you not know what the phrase "I don't care for" means?
