Saira Blair Becomes Youngest Elected Politician in US

No.

Old white guys know what's best for the youth of America.

It was that way during the Vietnam era, when they knew that the draft was character building, even when it ended in a body bag.

Youth are part of the fabric of society, they deserve a voice.

But look at this, she's 18, has shattered a major glass ceiling, done a first like Rosa Parks and the focus gets shifted to ONE issue...her stance on SSM.

Oooh...

Come on petty people. I have supported what I called gay marriage since about 1997, people in my church oppose it. I still like them, although misguided. This "girl" did what nobody this forum could ever hope to do.

She deserves some respect for that. I mean people were orgasmic when Obama got a Democratic Senate Nomination HANDED to him without lifting a finger...
Who on this thread has shown disrespect towards her? I've seen quite the opposite in fact. Most comments are along the lines of "Although I disagree with many of her stances, it is great to see someone young get elected." Not sure how that is disrespectful.

That girl is adorable just a little too conservative for me. Same as you I wish her the best.

She wouldn't have gotten my vote, but she is certainly cute and will be fun to watch!

Meh. Nobody on this thread is really showing disrespect towards Blair. If anything, the posters on this thread seem bent on twisting tres borrachos's words to pick a fight. Very few people are directly referencing the OP at all.

Just another day on DebatePolitics. :coffeepap

I did with my first post in the thread.

Looking at how unsatisfied everyone is with our current crop of politicians how can she be any worse? We need to change things up, this is one example of how.

You know, it takes a pretty giant sack of balls to criticize Obama for being too inexperienced when he first ran for president, then turn around and elect an eighteen year old.

Either a giant sack of balls, or a complete lack of self-awareness.

A lack of awareness so dense that light can't escape it.

Not really, she's not an executive and she's one of over 400. I can deal with that. Can't say the same about POTUS, besides look how it turned out.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I knew perfectly well you'd be able to rationalize it. The human mind is nothing if not creative.

POTUS vs House rep. Are they equal in your (nuanced) eyes, Kobie? Can we agree they aren't the same?

Never claimed they were. However, you're now rationalizing "experience" to apparently only apply when running for President.

It doesn't get much less experienced than an 18-year-old. But hey, best of luck to her. She's gonna need it.

I would not support her for POTUS, but I like her and respect her constituents views. Thats not too creative.

You know, no one would think less of you if you just admitted you gave one a pass over the other because of their differing ideology. And even if they did, admitting it still wouldn't make your head spontaneously combust.

Im saying I hold them to different standards. Because they aren't the same. Besides, how much worse could she be compared to what we have now?

Yes, I'm sure THAT'S why you hold them to different standards. Nothing to do with the letter after their name.

Thats not what I've done. POTUS =/= House Rep. Im sure you can figure that out.
I'd also support someone with no political experience if I felt they were qualified for POTUS. Take Ben Carson. :2wave:

"Qualified" = "conservative"

How on earth does that qualify someone to be president?

How about more innate intelligence and achievement than a poverty pimping community organizer?

This was just a few weeks ago and local, I'd have gone if I could. PS-Carson has now registered with the republican party. I havent seen it covered in the news. Something for you to look forward to.

And once again, you indulge yourself in the petty partisan lie that Obama's sole endeavor prior to his presidency was "community organizer." Congratulations.

Ben Carson is a very gifted neurosurgeon. Nothing in his resume suggests any qualifications for President of the United States, and on an ideological level, I find a lot of his positions and beliefs to be, mildly put, nuttier than squirrel crap.

It clearly was not his only endeavor, he also wanted to be a politician.
