WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obama acknowledged on Wednesday that "Republicans had a good night" with sweeping election victories in Congress and said he got a clear message from voters that it was his responsibility to break a Washington gridlock.

"As president, I have a unique responsibility to try and make this town work," the Democratic president said at a White House news conference. "So, to everyone who voted, I want you to know that I hear you." .....snip~

Obama to voters after Republican sweep of Congress: 'I hear you'

Did someone else hear that bit on BO agreeing with anyone? Cuz I have known many that would say that they hear ya? Or heard you. But that doesn't mean they listened. Sometimes it requires more than just talking to get ones full and undivided attention. Repubs can't just talk. What say ye?

What say me? Well, the exit polls indicate that 76% of the voters are dissatisfied with our republican led congress. So, what do we do? We elect MORE of them. I say we get what we deserve.

One of the bigger reasons for the democrats loss was their insitance on going forward with immigration in the wake of the huge numbers of illegal kids coming across. So, what does Obama say? He's preparing to go forward with executive action - which will almost certainly include delayed or completely stopping detainments of those caught. Sure. He hears the voters alright.

Edit: Then he has the claim that he's open to cooperation... No better way to show you are ready for cooperation with the other side then to sign executive action that is just going to piss most of the other side (and many of their own constituents) off and make them less likely to cooperate. Maybe that's his plan?

Harry Reid is a republican? Last time I checked the Republican lead house was passing bills left and right while the democrat led senate refused to even bring those bills to the floor. Obviously the electorate thought that the democrats were the real obstructionists. The GOP now has to make passing legistaion the #1 priority or we will lose just as bad in 2016 as the democrats did this year

I stand corrected. I was thinking Senate.

These senior moments are starting to come more frequently these days.

But, my point remains. People are very unhappy with republicans, (as well as with democrats, IMO) and the voters, by majority, do not want the GOP ideology treading on them. So, what do they do? Elect more republicans. That makes real good sense. Not.

What says I?

I say this.

We have acted. First, we acted to remove the democrats, and voted in a bunch of republicans, and a republican president. No change, or worse than before. So we acted again, and voted to oust those republicans for more democrats. No change, or worse than before. And we now act again. To flip the house again.

Will there be a change, and if there is, will it just be worse than before?

How many times will it take before we see the futility of it?

Well, republicans? How many times are you willing to risk it? Democrats? How many times? How much is your skin worth? How many more chances do you think you're going to get?

Im sure there are plenty of other moderates that dont want to be treaded on by the democrat ideology. The exit polls show a confusing picture at best, they show the electorate that voted was split on gay marriage indicating a more conservative group than the national opinion yet they also show the electorate favoring abortion indicating a more liberal view than the national opinion. How many people are anti-gay marriage and pro-abortion? That is the type of mixed message you can get during a mid term

Considering this has been going on for about 150 years, I wouldnt count on seeing a change anytime soon.

He will give in more than in the past, but Republicans thinking this will give them carte blanche with the President's key legislation will have a good reality check. Republicans can expect passing a limited amount of legislation easily. Start there.

Heya Buck. :2wave: McConnell has already warned BO don't try that it would be a big mistake. Plus he told BO Repubs want to work on Immigration.

But we have heard this all before from BO......call in leadership of the Repubs. Do a lil talking chucking and jiving and then walk Right out and blame them, talk about how their ideas don't work but never trying them. Always doing what he can to make them look bad. Make it appear like he negotiated on something and then never compromise with them unless it favors where he comes out looking good. He will work with anyone. Rinse and repeat.

It's different now. Politics hasn't been a multi billion dollar a year industry for 150 years. It hasn't ever been more clear than in the last 10 years who our politicians truly serve.

You can include me as another moderate that doesn't want to be treaded on by the democrats either. Throwing money at problems, all the while ignoring the root causes, doesn't accomplish anything.

The polls report that, whereas, the opinion on gay marriage is split, those who oppose are in the minority, albeit slightly. I was surprised how many voters, liberals and conservatives alike, favor legalizing marijuana. I wasn't expecting that. I guess money talks. I was blown away that Alaska, land of Sarah Palin, voted to legalize recreational use of marijuana. I didn't see that coming.

Well, BO and his policies weren't providing much of an answer. Plus we already had the poll up where the Demos have never been this disliked by many. Then BO and his team was underwater basically on every issue they brought up.

AP Poll: GOP Seizes Significant Lead, Obama Disapproval Spikes to 60 Percent.....

(1) President Obama's approval rating among likely voters is (41/60), marking his worst disapproval number in the series. As the president has reminded voters in recent days, "every single one" of his policies are on the ballot in November, and vulnerable Democrats have been stalwart allies on behalf of his agenda in Washington. On issues, the president's numbers are egregious. (42/58) on the economy, healthcare and ISIS, (34/65) on immigration, and (38/62) on managing the federal government. The only issue on which Obama is above water is same-sex marriage, at (50/49). Obama's personal favorability is 10 points underwater (44/54) among likely voters.

(2) The generic ballot (GOP +8 among likely voters):

(3) "Which party would you rather see win control of Congress?" Likely voters: Republicans 47, Democrats 39. Which party do you trust more on

- The economy (GOP +8)
- Immigration (GOP +5)
- Healthcare (Dem +4; far lower than their traditional lead)
- Managing the federal government (GOP +6)
- Protecting the country (GOP +22)
- Handling US image abroad (GOP +6)
- Same-sex marriage (Dem +15)
- Handling international crises (GOP +10)
- Handling health issues like Ebola (GOP +3) .....snip~

WHAT LANDSLIDE? Obama threatens vetoes and executive orders – including immigration reform THIS YEAR – after Americans reject him by giving Republicans historic gains in Congress
'Congress will pass some bills I cannot sign,' the president warned
He has only vetoed two minor bills since his inauguration in 2009
And 'I'll take some actions that some in Congress will not like,' Obama added, referring to threatened executive orders including a move on immigration
President sounded more like a winner than a loser despite his policies being repudiated on a national scale
Never articulated a single policy where he would shift his position to align with GOP majorities in both halves of Congress

I dont think he's heard much.

You should look at history. While the honorable George Washington took no salary as general he made the tax payer pay for his personal expenses where his extravagant lifestyle racked up a 4.2 million dollar(adjusted for inflation) tab. He tried the same scam again as president but congress said no giving him a $25,000 salary or a little under $650,000 in todays dollars.

Being a politician has ALWAYS been about money

I dont think he's heard much.

Yeah.....and that's why the Repubs can't just talk. They do have another thing going for them. That's 33 governorships. With 2 pending.....that's would be 2/3rds majority of States and populace with a full Congress. Something the Demos and BO would have to think about.

Did Boehner have anything to say about his call from BO?

The part that bothered me the most was where he was getting provocative about going ahead with EO before the year was out. So much for wanting to work with the other side...

Actually that last is wrong too. In fact last night they elected so many republicans to the People's House that it would take ten years before the democrats even have a chance to take the house back. Same with governorships.

We've been treated to the leftist squeaky wheels in the media, that's where you get that inaccurate picture.

Welcome to politics. I think the question of will the Republicans now decide to work with Obama or not. McConnell has given up on repeal of Obamacare, which is probably a good start.

This is true. Which is why I don't see what the big deal is going to be electing one corporatist party over the other.

I don't know what the ballots looked like in other states, but if they looked anything like the one here in AL, it's no wonder Republicans won! They pretty much ran unopposed here.

It's not that I'm upset about the outcome. I mean, except in cases of a tie you really can't dispute the people's choices in those contests were there were two candidates to choose from. But in those instances where a Republican ran unopposed, how could you expect anything less than a victory in such cases?

The Democrat Party either failed to put up a viable candidate or any candidate at all in some cases. Overall, I expected to see more Red across the country. I just hope the GOP starts to govern better instead of sticking to stringent partisanship.

I think they should do the vote.. Maybe get a couple of democrats up for reelection next year to flip and join them... Get it put on the president's desk and have him veto it.

Mornin HBuddha. :2wave: Did you hear the other thing that BO peep said. He said he also heard the 2/3rds that didn't vote. This is all one needs to hear.....to know that he is full of **** about working with the Repubs. He was doing a lil save face time. He still can't believe this was about him and his policies.

That he still believes in what he started in 2008. Trully he is a Narcissist. The signs, behavior and his own worda. Bears that out.

Although.....when he comes back with that Pen line. Someone needs to check his ass with the Question. Do you think you are above the Law? As in whoa Mr President, did you just say you were above the law. Right there in front of the Media coverage. Then watch how much stuttering he does.
