Texas Town Votes To Bar Fracking in City Limits

The whole issue of fracking in Denton is an emotional statement made for drama's sake. Nobody is going to frack in Denton.

From the article:
A college town of about 123,000, Denton sits on the Barnett Shale in north Texas and has about 280 natural-gas wells within its boundaries.

I grew up in the DFW metroplex. It is the mecca of natural gas. My parents still get hefty checks for natural gas rights just because they own property. It is happening.

I'm surprised that any resident in Texas is smart enough to realize that fracking in a residential area is bad. I thought Texans couldn't bend over fast enough for corporate reach around. This surprising act of self-preservation won't last long.

After all, former governor George W. Bush benefited from eminent domain to seize private property in order to profit on the Texas Rangers. The Texas government will not allow anyone to stand in the way of a corporation. The people of Denton will be crushed...

Was your only purpose for entering this thread to lob insults at Texans?

I'm surprised and embarrassed for you that you didn't keep this thought to yourself.

Their vision and initiative resulted in the creation of a voluntary membership association for people who believed that government closest to the people was fundamentally more effective, more just, and a better guarantor of freedom than the distant, bloated federal government in Washington, D.C."

A priceless commodity of clean water and land, and you want to destroy it for $ ?

The land and the water hasn't been destroyed anywhere else. Why is it going to happen here?

So you go to ALECs website... lo and behold ALEC says that ALEC is just wonderful and this is what you bring to the table?

To homes in a nearby neighborhood.

About that "pure" stage, I think that part of growing up is losing some of that naiveté, that taking as gospel what the grownups say. When you're faced with facts, it's a character-builder to stand up to the "popular" view. But in these two young men's case, it surely was a 180-degree eye-opener.

Absolutely it's a great thing. But its still hard not to empathize with those going through that.

Ah, so ALEC is akin to the KKK now right? Well, I guess every bit as much as this group

"Since its establishment in 1971, Members of the Congressional Black Caucus have joined together to empower America’s neglected citizens and to address their legislativeconcerns. For more than 40 years, the CBC has consistently been the voice for people of color and vulnerable communities in Congress and has been committed to utilizing the full Constitutional power, statutory authority, and financial resources of the Government of the United States of America to ensure that everyone in the United States has an opportunity to achieve their version of the American Dream."

Or as up front as this little communist that was in the inner circle...

They'll still get the oil. Denton is not large and they can drill horizontally. All Denton did is prevent their citizens from getting paid for the minerals under their property.

No, not really

In some ways, ALEC is worse

So, are you against all groups that form associations of like minded legislators? Or just those that don't line up with your ideology? I think the answer is clear, but none the less, would like to hear you say it.

There are many folks who disagree with you, folks who actually live near fracking sites. They've made documentaries about it, but you must have missed them.

Water out of the tap that can be ignited is what I call "pretty ****ty water". My son lives in Garfield County CO where there is much fracking, and the tap water is extremely poor, probably not really potable, as the Army used to call it. Washing clothes in the local water will forever stain them and leave a strange odor.

In Montana, a retired hydrologist has brought suit for the damage done to his small ranch from fracking nearby. A hydrologist.

Your claim sounds quite detached from the reality many people report.

Most of those reports have been debunked and they were written by people with an agenda.

LOL. Debunked.

Yeah, people with an agenda to (hopefully) get back to having potable water in their house.

Debunked....:lamo

I'll admit that, unlike you, I don't like and support all organizations.

Tell us all about your support for the Congressional Black Caucus :lamo

A billion dollars worth of natural resources and you want it to just sit there?

Yeah! This here my place. Ain't no oil ****ing field. Ain't gonna become one neither. That's how we roll.

Like what? Jobs? Social programs? Infrastructure projects? Oh, wait, those things cost money.

Money talks and bull**** walks, bro. It's all nice and sweet to say that there are things more important than money, but none of that stuff that is more imoortant than money is going to buy groceries and pay the bills.

You got me there pardner.

Except: Fracking in my town isn't going to provide me with grocery and bills money. Not one cent.

We got all of the fliers on the door and in the mailbox before the election about how banning fracking was going to cost Denton a bunch of money.

Too bad, so sad.

Y'all better hope folks around there don't figure out y'all lied to them, they might not dig it too much.

I didn't tell them any lies. I exposed the lie about the 285 ft. communications tower without guide wires that Atmos Energy wanted to erect.

I might be a little bit hero in the hood.
