Mia Love isn't a young woman? That's what most people would call a woman in her early 30s. Which one of those would you call her - a leech, a welfare queen, a thug, or brainwashed?

If I used your posts as a guide, I'd call her a racist

the blacks are racist. Their votes prove it.

Re: Meet Mia Love. You’ll be seeing a lot more of the Republicans’ first black congre

It was awesome. She is such a classy lady and it made me smile from ear to ear at about 3 am when I found out about it (Mr. B & I were at the Scott Brown party and had to catch up when we got home). She's someone to watch in the future!

The Left will probably do a Sarah Palin on her.

Re: Meet Mia Love. You’ll be seeing a lot more of the Republicans’ first black congre

The Left will probably do a Sarah Palin on her.

Maybe, but from all appearances, she seems a lot smarter than Palin.

Re: Meet Mia Love. You’ll be seeing a lot more of the Republicans’ first black congre

The only thing that is going to change that image is a change in Republican philosophy and actions. Sorry...you may not like it, but the truth is the truth. Republican policies are often anti-minority and anti-women. Have a black face in the form of Mia Love isn't going to change that any more than having a black face in Condoleeza Rice or any other figurehead the GOP wants to throw up.

She's a Morman and former flight attendent. Are you serious? They'll crucify her.

I saw a post earlier in this thread where she was sent some nasty images and other things, made some doG awful remarks about and to her, and where the clowns at Mother Jones called her an "anchor baby". It sounds like she's getting the Stacey Dash treatment at the very least.

Re: Meet Mia Love. You’ll be seeing a lot more of the Republicans’ first black [W:110

You know, I agree. It's terrible that people are saying anything good about her.

I think there is a lot of good to be said about her. She definitely will have a different perspective of the world considering how her life growing up is far different than say a Mitt Romney who grew up with abundance.

Congrats to her for accomplishing this, but it appears instead of praising this accomplishment there is more of a in your face Democrats attitude here. That reminds me of the "I have a friend who is black" sentiment.

She'll be label as a Religious Right nutter, just watch.

Re: Meet Mia Love. You’ll be seeing a lot more of the Republicans’ first black [W:110

Ah, I get it now. I'm a bad person for calling her a young woman. Neat! What would have been a more appropriate name for her then?

I'm not a racist nor "on the right", so I wouldn't call her a racist name. That seems to disappoint you.
Who said you were a "bad person"?

And, you call yourself a "Libertarian-Right", you are, by your own definition, on the right.

I'm not sure what the "I have a friend who is black" sentiment means, or what it has to do with her.

I like your bolded sentence. That's what appeals to me about her. I'm tired of the generational politicians and the children of privilege going to DC and spending our money frivolously, and pontificating with the old "I care about you, I know what it's like to be in your shoes" horse****. She really does know. Not only is she a first generation American, she seems to have lived a very normal middle class life. College, flight attendant, a few corporate jobs, married, 3 kids, voice for issues in her family's community.....she's more like most of us than most of the rest of them are. Fresh faces are good and sorely needed in DC, especially the ones who seem like they're "real" Americans (if that makes sense).

No, it means I lean right fiscally. That doesn't make me "on the right". John Boehner is on the right. Eric Cantor is on the right. Ted Cruz is on the right. I'm socially pretty Liberal.

Mia Love is a young woman. I'm 52. To me she's a young woman. I referred to a poster on here recently as a young woman too in an attack thread on her in another section on here. Referring to someone who is young and female as a young woman has never struck me as being noteworthy of comment.

Let's not pretend either side is innocent when it comes to insults and down playing people on the other sides accomplishments. Of course they are going to crucify her just like the right crucifies the left. It's all about making the other side look bad instead of focusing on the positive. It really needs to change.

She definitely will be a target for some for as long as she is office. However, you would think her success would be celebrated be people on the left and the right:

"...Love is progress, whether so-called progressives want to embrace it or not. Her election is a reflection, yea an extension of the Rev.. Martin Luther King Jr's dream. The daughter of Haitian immigrants, born in Brooklyn, living in Utah, a state that is less than 1% black, judged by the content of her character. And because of that, she is coming to Washington. If that is not what the dream is all about then we truly have lost our way...."

All of that is what appeals to me as well. That's exactly the kind of people we need to represent us, our own people and yes the "real" Americans makes total sense.

It seems that many people don't understand that concept. Fiscally right (for me) means that I don't support huge social program expenditures or foreign military actions. It means that I favor liberty. Welfare isn't liberty. It's subservience and dependence. Huge military foreign actions aren't liberty-based. They are authoritarian in nature, and they imply that we think we know best, and our way is superior, and that we will use force to manipulate our will in foreign nations.

Re: Meet Mia Love. You’ll be seeing a lot more of the Republicans’ first black [W:110

For at least half a century, the party of Lincoln has battled charges that it is racist, sexist and anti-immigrant.

Today, voters from a conservative state made those arguments a little bit harder to make. In Utah, Mia Love became the first black Republican woman — and first Haitian American — elected to Congress.

For the GOP — a house divided that faces significant demographic hurdles to winning the White House in 2016 even as it celebrates President Obama’s shellacking — this was huge. A party threatened with electoral extinction among African Americans and immigrants now has someone to brag about in Washington. In a wave election less about fresh Republican ideas than fervid disapproval of all things presidential, Love’s compelling personal story is an oasis. She’s not just a black face in what’s often described as a party full of angry old white men. She’s a path forward.

Good for her. I've followed her for a while now. The daughter of Haitian immigrants.

So much for all Republicans being racist and sexist.

The very reason that this is newsworthy is proof that the party has serious problems with minority voters. The notion that the election of one black woman changes that is ludicrous.

You do realize that people on the right can be socially liberal just like people on the left can be socially conservative? If you refer to yourself with a lean that calls you "right", you're on the right. If you don't like the label "right", "right" shouldn't be in your label.

Anyway, what you find noteworthy is different from what I find noteworthy. There is a pattern of people on the right denigrating people of color when they aren't useful to them, but then using forced neutral terms like "young woman" when referring to people of color they can use. You fit that pattern.

Your accusation in this post of me using a "forced neutral term" is a lie. Goodbye.

My only fear is that she will change when she gets to DC. I hope to hell I'm wrong about that. But at least the start of promise is there.

many people going to Washington believe they are going to change it, then they find out they are only a newbie, and are told to shut up and listen.

No, I think she will remain the only black female Republican member of the House of Representatives. Can't see that changing.
