Gun rampage kills 2 deputies in Sacramento region

Excerpt:

>" The ordeal began at the Motel 6 near Sacramento’s bustling Arden Fair mall and a popular movie theater complex.

Oliver and his partner were approaching a car in the motel parking lot that had a man and woman inside when the gunman suddenly opened fire, Jones said.

“As the officer approached the vehicle, the person inside the vehicle fired several rounds at Officer Danny Oliver,” the sheriff said in an afternoon press conference. “At least one of those rounds struck Deputy Oliver in the forehead, which caused his death.”

Oliver didn’t have time to react, but his partner drew his weapon and opened fire as the suspects fled the parking lot.

One witness, Tomorrow Jones, said she spent the night at the motel to celebrate her anniversary and that her family and baby were still in the second-floor room when she heard the barrage of gunfire..."<

How about a little cultural sensitivity? This man grew up where many people see the police as corrupt armed thugs who are to be feared. He was sitting peacefully with his wife in their vehicle, and when he saw these police coming toward them for no reason, he naturally became afraid and instinctively defended himself. Of course after he'd done that he panicked--he was only trying to protect himself and his wife from any further attack by fleeing.

This fellow's encounter with the gardener proves he was not violent by nature--he told the man he didn't want to hurt him. If the other man had only complied with his request for his vehicle like the gardener did, there would have been no need to shoot him. And if the other police had tried calmness and reasoning instead of storming in like gangbusters or the SS, this man would not have felt the need to defend himself against them, either.

Unlike the xenophobes and right-wing haters, Governor Brown, our President, and other evolved people feel sympathy for poor people from other countries who want to share the American dream. This man is the victim of misunderstanding, and he needs our help, not punishment. It's not a crime to be brown.

At always thought it was wrong to kill cops, but your diatribe is damn convincing. ;)

As my readings of Foucault and Habermas have made clear to me, "wrong" is a relative term. Semiotic nuances are inevitably involved in deconstructing heuristic concepts that have been culturally reified.

I'm just tired of this reich-wing attitude of "down on brown." Every time an undocumented visitor to this country is forced to defend himself against jackbooted oppression by the private armies of the rich and white, fascist knuckledraggers howl for a lynching, just as their forerunners used to lynch thousands of African-Americans. This reflexive hatred of "the other" dehumanizes us all, blinding us to this obvious fact: The real victims are this man and his wife. I only hope the government of my state will provide them the counseling and therapy they must need so badly after having survived this brutal attack.

Thanks. Sometimes I put my tongue too far in my cheek, and it gets me in trouble. I've been around so many members of the Birkenstock Brigades for so long that I'm inside their heads. There's not much in there to block the view, by the way.

I'm still trying to figure out if I have a Sir name.

You're just filled with baseless platitudes and hyperbole aren't you ?

This criminal killer illegal alien had been deported TWICE already.

You know what ? Nvrmnd.....

I must be a little tired today.

I'm tired just from reading your post. See my #6 above.

I read it, when I was almost done with my post.

I usually pick up on sarcasm and tongue in cheek pretty quickly.

Just no today. Like I said, maybe I'm just tired

Is there any evidence that the officers attempted to ehance their cultural understanding of the individual and his angst by communicating with him in Spanish? Had the officers been bi lingual and multi cultural cultural this tragedy could have been avoided... .

No doubt. And I heard today the killer was an illegal. Our jails are filled with Mexico's problem.

Gun rampage kills 2 deputies in Sacramento region

Not a “gun rampage”, It was a criminal, who went on a rampage, killing two deputies in the process.

Calling this a “gun rampage” only plays into the lies of the wrong-wing gungrabbers who prefer to hold an inanimate object culpable (and by association, anyone else who possess a similar object) for the actions of a criminal.

I wonder if the state will jail the gun for this?

The perp had been deported from the US twice. I guess that doesn't bode well for the open borders crowd.

Maybe now the rest of the country will listen to what border states have been saying for years about "catch and release" and its impact on their communities.

Maybe.
