Doctor being tested for Ebola in NYC [W:110]

Re: Doctor rushed to Bellevue Hospital with Ebola symptoms went bowling a day earlier

I also don't think any EU countries are issuing 100 visas per day to Africans from countries with the Ebola outbreak.

This is why Obama has made it political. 1,000 visas per week are still being issued by the Obama State Dept. to Africans from three West African countries with the Ebola outbreak and most are likely visas over stays. In layman terms as soon as their visas expires they will still be in America, will become illegal aliens aka undocumented Democrats and will just wait around for amnesty.

That's the real reason why the Obama administration refuses to stop incoming passengers from West Africa entering our country.

I do NOT believe a 100% travel ban is needed, or in the best interests of America.

I think we should limit those traveling to and from West Africa to essential Ebola Aid personnel ONLY.

I think we (America) need to be very heavily involved in the combating of Ebola in Western Africa, and to support that effort, we need to be sending somewhere around 20,000 emergency drafted Doctors, Nurses and Hospital Mechanics to Africa. We need to learn what we can from working in Africa, and have those bitter, but essential lessons telecom sent back to the USA. We need to create a cadre of experienced Doctors and Nurses, who after being carefully cleared, return to teach our people.

I think that we need to implement an 8 week remote isolation health monitoring camp period as part of the return protocol.

I think that about half of the drafted 20,000 doctors and nurses will die in Africa, but that cost is worth the benefit to the United States.

The EU seems to be doing something right. What could it be ?

I don't know. Better access to medical facilities, maybe?

Re: Doctor rushed to Bellevue Hospital with Ebola symptoms went bowling a day earlier

This was discredited weeks ago, and I can tell you from personal knowledge that even defining "symptomatic" is sometimes difficult. Remember that nurse that the CDC told could fly because her fever wasn't high enough? Yeah she just took tylenol. Welcome to the world of medicine, where things are almost never black and white.

Nothing was discredited. Did that nurse spread Ebola to anyone on that plane? NO. You can't spread Ebola until you have significant numbers of the virus in your system and by then you are VERY sick. That is what our experience with the first case in this country has shown.

Re: Doctor being tested for Ebola in NYC

It turns out, they've already got a vaccine, and have had it for years.

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/10/24/h...tial-ebola-vaccine-was-shelved-for-years.html

I am beginning to suspect the following:

The vaccine is already human trialed and fully viable.

They have already made a few hundred million doses, and it has been distributed to the selected survivors.

The Wealthy, the Liberal Elite, the Chosen Workers are already all immune and have been for over a year.

Obama and crew are not worried, because they are immune.

They have an Enemies of World Liberalism List, and if your name is on it, you've not been given the vaccine, and it is likely you will die in the next few months.

This is the Obama Answer to Stalin's Purges.

I seem to remember one of the top spoke holes for the left always mentioning how great Cuba's health care facilities are.

Don't see any one in Liberia applying for a visa from the Cuban Embassy.

You said the EU, not Liberia or Cuba.

You dont seem to understand. The issue here isn't the specific cases-ITS THE SYSTEM.
Let me give you an example of how real things really are in real life-a patient decides to travel and is within the 4+ week incubation period, he gets in and shortly after develops symptoms. The entire time he's here, he's exposing others. Now what?

Another patient has a fever but is sure its a cold. She takes tylenol and during the screen (where the temp scanner is used correctly by the hardly-trained security guard) she is afebrile and allowed to enter the US. 5 hours into her flight, or the next day if you prefer, her temp spikes to 103. She was positive the entire time, but suppressed her temp. Now what?

The CDC is spinning, right here right now. You may not pay a price for being wrong (on things you know nothing about no less) but I do every day-and YOU DONT PLAY AROUND WITH THESE THINGS.

Even if POTUS and his little puppets say otherwise for politics.

Respect this disease, those that know more about this than you HAVE TO.

Re: Doctor rushed to Bellevue Hospital with Ebola symptoms went bowling a day earlier

You said the EU, not Liberia or Cuba.

You know, some are saying or asking if there are any Ebola infected people in West Africa who might be applying for a visa to come to America for treatment.

Re: Doctor rushed to Bellevue Hospital with Ebola symptoms went bowling a day earlier

Obama's Ebola Czar thinks that Over population is the world's biggest problem.

Obama?s ?Ebola Czar? Thinks Overpopulation Is Top Challenge

Obama’s “Ebola Czar” Thinks Overpopulation Is Top Challenge

In addition to having essentially no medical qualifications for the newly invented “Ebola czar” post aside from serving as a lobbyist for a pharmaceutical firm, attorney and political operative Ron Klain (shown) is under fire after a video surfaced of him declaring that “growing population” — particularly in Africa — was the “top leadership challenge” for the world today. Critics expressed outrage over the comments, especially considering warnings by demographic experts of an upcoming plunge in population caused by a dramatic decline in birthrates across most of the world. But news reports citing insiders suggest that Obama has even bigger plans for Klain within the administration than exploiting the Ebola scare to advance tyranny.

Of course, Klain is hardly alone in holding sordid views on population. In his new job, the controversial figure joins a coterie of other discredited overpopulation zealots and neo-Malthusian crackpots in the administration obsessed with slashing the number of humans — and especially Africans, who have long been the target of government population-control schemes. The latest revelations also came ...

Why am I not surprised that Obama's Ebola Czar is Rooting for Ebola to win?

You know, some are saying or asking if there are any Ebola infected people in West Africa who might be applying for a visa to come to America for treatment.

Can't you see how all of these little facts are adding up to a Liberal Purge of their undesirables?

The 2011 remove of the travel restrictions and quarantine.

The lack of any real response to the threat after Dallas.

The several year existence of a Vaccine.

The appointment of an Ebola Czar with a Population-Control Agenda.

The approaching 2014 elections where it is expected that Liberals will receive a severe pounding.

Pro-African Citizen's taking bizarre actions, when they clearly know better, resulting a high likely hood of spread of the disease.

The supreme confidence and lack of concern by many on the far Left political spectrum. Even those on our forums making derisive, dismissive and condescending remarks to any sort of concern over Ebola.

The apparent lack of concern by the Left at the likely significant loss of political power in the 2014 elections.

The CDC position of the incubation period being 2-21 days, when the WHO says 1-47 days.

Can't you SEE how this is adding up?

Re: Doctor being tested for Ebola in NYC

He finished his service and came home more than a week ago. He was symptom free (and NOT infectious) until 10am today, when he reported sick and was taken to hospital with due precautions. Fear is a killer, as is ignorance. Screaming fire in a theater only makes a person look stupid.

You seem supremely confident that you are immune to Ebola.... Why?

Re: Doctor rushed to Bellevue Hospital with Ebola symptoms went bowling a day earlier

If anyone from the bowling alley dies from Ebola, this "Doctor" is guilty of both Murder and Terrorism.

That's insane.

You've been in full-on Ebola freakout mode from day one. Do I need to remind you about your ludicrous "calm before the storm" thread?

Ebola is essentially contained, and our medical infrastructure is sound. Your chicken little antics are merely tiresome.

Re: Doctor rushed to Bellevue Hospital with Ebola symptoms went bowling a day earlier

That a doctor did not self-quarantine after returning from West Africa's Guinea (Ebola infectious zone) is... highly disturbing.

Re: Doctor rushed to Bellevue Hospital with Ebola symptoms went bowling a day earlier

How could he be a terrorist when he did not bring down One World Trade Centre.

Kobie, you know nothing about medicine, and pay no price for being wrong.

Now, why do you think that dems are now saying they want to close entry from outbreak nations?

Even more so is the failure of our "system" to contain it. Its demonstrably failed.

Go through the various threads on Ebola, and look at WHO is consistently snide, condescending, dismissive, and supremely confident that they are immune.

Look at the common element of their political lean.

Don't take my word for it, I'm just a wacko CT loon. Go look for yourself at the group of people who consistently dismiss and attack those who see Ebola as a threat.

These people only care about the politics. Thing is EVERYTHING is political to them.

Yes, and winning is the ONLY thing that counts for them. Killing a few people, or even allot of people, who are in their way, would not matter.

A vaccine for Ebola exists, and has existed from the better part of the Obama Administration. For some odd reason, it was never complete ( we are told ) and deployed, even to Africa.

It could be that they view Ebola only though a Political lens....

Or, they might actually all be truly immune to the disease...

Where their political opponents are NOT!

Look again, Carefully, at WHO is supremely confident that Ebola is not a threat, and scoffs at, ridicules, and belittles anyone who takes it as a serious threat.

What is the Lean of those who dismiss Ebola as a threat?

Who is NOT casually dismissing Ebola?

Why is it, only people of a Far Left Political Lean are so confident?

Re: Doctor being tested for Ebola in NYC

According to this article -- NYC hospital tests doctor who had been to West Africa for Ebola -- he had quarantined himself since returning to New York on 10/17/14.

I was therefore about to praise him for at least not wandering around the population.

But the previous link in this thread said he was "out bowling"!

So what media choice do I believe?!

Regardless, the man still flew here on a commercial flight with other passengers.

Even if it turns out the chances of him contaminating anyone when he's yet symptomatic are very rare, shouldn't those people whom he might contaminate on "very rare" occasion have a right to know such a risk was aboard the plane?

Maybe not.

But .. maybe.

Regardless, it does look like Ebola.

We can hope it isn't, though.

But if it is Ebola, at least it's not a "walk-in" case at the hospital. He was taken there in quarantine and protection, thus the chances of healthcare workers contracting it from him here in the U.S., under non-walk-in conditions, is historically zero.

This guy is a Doctor.....an yet as a Doctor he shows us how even Doctors can be fools. This mope knew he was working with Ebola Patients. For 8 months he was in Guinea. He should have isolated himself Right off the top coming from the Infected Country.

Not only was he out bowling.....but he took the subway, then went out to the park.

Was also out jogging.....which he said he was feeling down then.

A vaccine for Ebola exists, and has existed from the better part of the Obama Administration. For some odd reason, it was never complete ( we are told ) and deployed, even to Africa.

From The New York Times:

Its development stalled in part because Ebola is rare, and until now, outbreaks had infected only a few hundred people at a time. But experts also acknowledge that the absence of follow-up on such a promising candidate reflects a broader failure to produce medicines and vaccines for diseases that afflict poor countries. Most drug companies have resisted spending the enormous sums needed to develop products useful mostly to countries with little ability to pay...

To that point, the research may have cost a few million dollars, but tests in humans and scaling up production can cost hundreds of millions, and bringing a new vaccine all the way to market typically costs $1 billion to $1.5 billion, Dr. Crowe said. “Who’s going to pay for that?” he asked. “People invest in order to get money back.”

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/10/24/h...tial-ebola-vaccine-was-shelved-for-years.html

The choice made by the companies is an entirely rational one based on market considerations. Sometimes market considerations and health needs can conflict. Currently, there's no real mechanism to deal with situations similar to what happened with the potentially promising ebola vaccine. Perhaps following the Ebola outbreak, there may be a federal or international funding mechanism devised to finance the testing and development of vaccines intended to prevent severe viruses even as the incidence of such viruses is limited (sort of like preparing for a low probability/high impact event).
