Doctor being tested for Ebola in NYC [W:110]

Re: Doctor rushed to Bellevue Hospital with Ebola symptoms went bowling a day earlier

He tested positive.

Unreal. Out and about bowling the night before.

Well, he does have Ebowla.

Re: Doctor being tested for Ebola in NYC

If we keep letting people back into the US from West Africa without testing/quarantining them first - it's gonna happen and will continue to happen. The problem is at some point it will start spreading here - so the standard question of "Have you recently visited Western Africa" won't work. People will come in with 103 degree temps and will be sent home again because it's going to be flu season. Then Ebola really starts to spread here in the US.

WTF is with the OP and many in it?
Some seeing/liking/Posting in BOTH without saying boo.

Sorry, looked, did not see it.

I don't care about a thread. If you want to have the two merged, it is fine with me.

It is most important that everyone gets the word that Ebola is lose in the Nations largest, most travel intensive city.

He tested POSITIVE.

Unreal.

No worries, Im sure Obama's political operative "Ebola Czar" will tell him, that is IF Obama doesn't find out about this on the news. He will then no doubt be OUTRAGED!!! GRRRR!!!!

Re: Doctor rushed to Bellevue Hospital with Ebola symptoms went bowling a day earlier

That's going a bit too far.... he's guilt of possibly being arrogant in his knowledge and procedures to think he wouldn't contract it. But it's not murder or terrorism - just a lapse in judgement.

I totally disagree.

I have participated in military exercises in the preparedness for quarantines for Ebola.

The concepts of self-isolation, and a diary of minimized contacts was re-enforced on multiple occasions throughout the training.

There is no possible way this was bad judgement. The rules and protocols are way beyond clear in this instance.

Well...it's just not fair that African countries have it and we don't. You know damn well that if it wasn't for American greed, Africa would be better off.

Yep.

Why just today an entire family from West Africa that recently just came here to live is being quarantined: Six in quarantine in Connecticut as U.S. steps up Ebola checks.

Don't know how they got past all the security.

Makes me wonder.

We can't even trust a doctor to make the right decision.
Indeed.

Here's a man who knew he'd been contaminated .. and he knows where the best care is .. so he flies back incognito, so to speak, with a whole plane-load of oblivious people from Brussels .. then he gets tired of "quarantining" himself .. with his girlfriend who was waiting for him here .. waiting for the inevitable symptoms to manifest .. so he goes out bowling.

Many doctors think they're the smartest ones in the room. No surprise here.

I fired one of my doctors for being arrogant.

If he lives he might need to see a psychiatrist......and a Judge.

Just sayin.

If you are a highly trained medical doctor, and just witnessed first hand the deaths of Ebola in Guinea, and you return to the U.S.

Whether you feel well, or not, any responsible person, regardless of whether the government insists upon isolation, would place themselves voluntarily in a mode of low public contact and make of diary of all contact they do have, just in case.

If this person went to a public gathering, such as a bowling alley, given his level of training, exposure, and change of location from Africa to the relatively Ebola free area of the United States, we have to assume that for Political or Personal motivations, he is TRYING to deliberately spread the disease!

This man is, in my estimation, A TERRORIST!

This is a clear and present danger to the lives of hundreds of millions of Americans, and represents a valid case of deliberate Terrorism!

Re: Doctor being tested for Ebola in NYC

He finished his service and came home more than a week ago. He was symptom free (and NOT infectious) until 10am today, when he reported sick and was taken to hospital with due precautions. Fear is a killer, as is ignorance. Screaming fire in a theater only makes a person look stupid.

I agree. I am a bit surprised that he didn't self-quarantine himself when he began feeling sluggish. Fortunately, if the early story is accurate, he was not symptomatic even last night, so the risk that others were exposed when he went bowling is very low. Of course, Ebola also is not an airborne virus.

Re: Doctor rushed to Bellevue Hospital with Ebola symptoms went bowling a day earlier

What an idiot.

And so is this doctor with ebola.

Re: Doctor being tested for Ebola in NYC

Several years ago, there was a vaccine developed for Ebola. However, there was no lucrative market for it. Now, conveniently, with this latest outbreak- there is.

Johnson & Johnson to begin testing Ebola vaccine in January - MarketWatch

I wonder if the government workers and politicians are Johnson & Johnson stockholders. Imo, it has become abundantly obvious that the CDC/government's utter disregard for public safety is profit motivated.

Shouldn't your post be in the conspiracy category?

Regardless of what happens-we deserve it. America always deserves it.

It's all our fault. Communism would have succeeded had it not been for America. :lamo

Patient in New York City Tests Positive for Ebola

He told the authorities that he did not believe the protective gear he wore while working with Ebola patients had been breached but had been monitoring his own health.

Doctors Without Borders, in a statement, said it provides guidelines for its staff on their return from Ebola assignments, but did not elaborate on those protocols.

“The individual engaged in regular health monitoring and reported this development immediately,” the group said in a statement.

Dr. Spencer began to feel sluggish on Tuesday but did not develop a fever until Thursday morning, he told the authorities. At 11 a.m., the doctor found that he had a 103-degree temperature and alerted the staff of Doctors Without Borders, according to the official.

The staff of Doctors Without Borders called the city’s health department, which in turn called the Fire Department.

Emergency medical workers, wearing full personal protective gear, rushed to Dr. Spencer’s apartment, on West 147th Street. He was transported to Bellevue and arrived shortly after 1 p.m.

He was placed in a special isolation unit and is being seen by the pre-designated medical critical care team. They are in personal protective equipment with undergarment air ventilation systems.

He did not seek medical evaluation or help until he had a temperature of 103.

No person goes from a normal temperature of 98.6, to a temperature of 103 in less than several hours, and generally a day or more.

The time period from a temp of a 103, and the time he went out in public was less than 14 hours.

When he reached a temperature of 101, why did he not self-isolate?

This doctor's behavior was not in keeping with someone with the intelligence and training required to become a Doctor who is sent to an Ebola Hot zone.

This was a deliberate act. We all know it, even if right now our selfish, foolish Politics, prevent U.S. from admitting it!

This was a deliberate act. We all know it...

I disagree. It may have been somewhat careless, but if it were deliberate, he wouldn't have sought help when he became symptomatic.

The Doctor admits that he noticed feeling Sluggish on Tuesday.
