Elizabeth Warren says she's been treated differently in the Senate but won't say how

Re: Elizabeth Warren says she's been treated differently in the Senate but won't say

Blame Yahoo. I quoted their story.

You can also download CNN, and Wapo, and Salon, and any number of the other outlets that ran the same story...

No, it's a male-female issue, unless you don't know what this thread is about? She never said she was treated differently because she was a Democrat. Did she? Did Gillibrand say that? No they did not. So it's only a left-right issue because, well to be honest, the posters on this board on the left ran to her defense, while the ones on the right didn't run to her defense.

She needs to put up names or more details if she expects any thinking person to believe her. It sounds like she's whining. She promotes the idea that Republicans are sexist while at the same time claiming that she is a victim of sexism in Congress, but when pressed for names or details, she won't give them. Either she's lying and this is a political ploy, or the sexists are people she wants to protect - and somehow I doubt any Republicans are on that list.

But be partisan and believe her. I don't accept a politician's word as the gospel. Most people don't either.

Oh, for gawd's sake, tres, it's not like she Vague-Booked a new Facebook update...

"Am being treated by people for being a woman."
"Oh, I'm sorry, who's doing it to you?"
"It..it's not important."

She was asked that question, and it's clear from her lack willingness to talk about it that if she hadn't been asked she never would have mentioned it. And despite your belief she needs to name names, did you ever think that maybe, just maybe, she has bigger fish to fry, and she feels an internal battle with her colleagues would detract from larger goals?

Your reaction to this whole thing is really goofy.

Re: Elizabeth Warren says she's been treated differently in the Senate but won't say

If she doesn't like how she's treated and won't do anything about it (name names), then she has the choice to leave and do something else. All this is mountain made out of a mole hill. This entire thread is silly.

Or b)focus on larger priorities while she works within the Senate.

No ****.

Tell the kool-aid drinkers will ya? Their little red mustache's and blank looks force me to play the part of "Captain Obvious" and the suit itches like hell.

Re: Elizabeth Warren says she's been treated differently in the Senate but won't say

You are missing

A) the desire by Warren to gain legitimacy and support through claim of membership in a liberal-preferred identity group built around a history of victimhood

matched with

B) the inability to back up the claim.

huh..... now why does this sound familiar....

Yep that about sums it up perfectly.

Something like:

So vote for poor little me. ;)

I'm a little confused because of the positions you've held in the past: the "kool-aid" drinkers are the people coming out against Warren, right?

You're a smart chap... you make an educated guess.

It sounds like she's going to lie about being an indian, again.

My wife is more indian than she is, she just doesn't claim some kind of favored status.

Re: Elizabeth Warren says she's been treated differently in the Senate but won't say

I think you mean "Mika" Brzezinski? She's on MSNBC, not Fox News, and she was talking about this yesterday on Morning Joe and agreeing with the rest of the gang that Warren & Gillibrand need to name names. Mika herself brought action against MSNBC a few years ago at the risk of alienating her employers, but she knew naming names was the only thing to do.

I did mean Mika. I know she's not on Fox. I wasn't just taking a shot at Fox. I am just saying that there are plenty of women in the media who will not run another woman's side in the case of a sexual harassment... even if these women name names. They will play politics, and men in politics sexually harassing women in politics is an obvious political story.

And let's not be ****ing dumb as women. We should all realize that naming names in the case of rape and sexual harassment has earned women negative attention and personal attacks, accusations of lying and wanting attention, defending the male in question, blurring the issue, and saying " let's wait until all the facts come out," etc.

Even Morning Joe Scarborough himself took that stance when Woody Allen's daughter publicly accused him of raping her as a kid. Many people here on DP didn't congratulate her on her bravery. You're expectation that Elizabeth Warren would be treated like a hero for naming names is false. Our society and justice system isn't set up that way. I personally think it's highly likely Woody Allen did sexually assault his daughter, but she will never justice if true, because there is no evidence or proof. People want and expect evidence, not simply naming names.

Yes, I know. It's A-okay for the Congress to have sexists in their ranks. It's just not okay when corporations or other businesses have sexists in their ranks. Senator Warren encourages women to fight sexism. She just doesn't want to do it herself. I guess leading by example isn't in her. I think the example she set here is "Ignore sexism". I wonder if her constituents will decide to do exactly as she is doing.

Woody Allen was on the hairy edge of an illegal act of pedophilia. I hear he's actually still with that girl. What a disgusting character he is. He does make good movies though.

I see it this way. The next time Senator Warren encourages women to stand up against sexism, even at the risk of alienating their employers and co-workers, her own behavior needs to be remembered. She has a chance to expose it in the Congress, and if it's Republicans, it will affirm the comments she made about Republicans waging war on women. That would not only be sheer political brilliance, it would help Democrats all over the country. The fact that she refuses to 1, stand up to them, and 2, name names only makes me think she's weak, or these are Democrats, or she's making it up.

Re: Elizabeth Warren says she's been treated differently in the Senate but won't say

Where did I say "prevalent?" I don't know one way or the other. And it's difficult for women to walk the tightrope at work when confronted with sexism, and there are many possible responses to it. Ignore minor cases, address some cases with the person, address some with management, if it gets into sexual harassment, file formal complaints, file charges, lawsuits, quit, etc. There is no one right way, it will depend on all kinds of factors from the details of the incident, whether it can be proved, etc.

If I thought you had ANY interest in a rational conversation I'd do so, but when you presume that Warren's ONLY options are to 1) Lie, or 2) to retain her integrity, go full on scorched earth with public accusations against individual Senators, you obviously just want to bash Warren. It's an insane expectation of her, or any other woman dealing with sexism at work.

I never suggested she lie. I am saying she should out them.

I'll remember this the next time she's stumping and tells other women to stand up to sexism. She isn't. She's a piss poor leader and a hypocrite expecting other people to do it, but not doing it herself.

Uh huh. So this would have nothing to do with any sort of desire on your part to see her sidetracked from her primary goals?

Re: Elizabeth Warren says she's been treated differently in the Senate but won't say

The issue shouldn't be only about Senator Elizabeth Warren or only democratic women, nor does Warren speak for all women. One feminist isn't the spokesperson for all women. We shouldn't judged or measured up to Warren. The real issue here should be sexual harassment.

Woody Allen was on the hairy edge of an illegal act of pedophilia. I hear he's actually still with that girl. What a disgusting character he is. He does make good movies though.

Re: Elizabeth Warren says she's been treated differently in the Senate but won't say

Yeah, that is as clear as day. There are never enough victims for the left, especially for someone like Warren, who really preys on the victim type. They are essential for jerks like her. Here, let me fight for you! (and, let's ignore the real problems the left has caused). It never hurts to try and create more victims.

Hilarious coming from the right where you guys fully embraced a fruitcake that played the victim card several times a week as a way to campaign as a veep candidate.

It has everything to do with partisan politics and nothing to do with concern for women being sexually harassed...

What are her primary goals?

Re: Elizabeth Warren says she's been treated differently in the Senate but won't say

What are her primary goals?

Do you gather from her career to this point that it's about dealing with sexual inequality?

How's she doing so far? Is everyone equal yet? Or is it, like community organizing, still a work in progress?

Yes, everything is "hilarious" when the left is called out for their dysfunctional, sometimes despicable behavior. Ha ha, what a joke. Not much of a defense, though.

Re: Elizabeth Warren says she's been treated differently in the Senate but won't say

That's exactly what they were saying on Morning Joe when they were talking about it. Name names. Put it out there. They encourage women to identify sexism and fight against it, yet here she is making accusations against, well, nobody in particular. It's an odd way to set an example.

She won't name names because the men she refers to are members of her own caucus. If the guilty parties were Lindsay Graham, John McCain and Mitch McConnell, she'd be on the rooftops telling everyone.
This. If she's going to confirm it happened, then give examples and/or name names. If she's not going to give examples and/or name names, then she should just STFU as she's just as spineless as every other politician.

So much for being the champion and shining example for the little person, eh?
