Pope To Demote Anti-Gay Cardinal Raymond Burke
While the Cardinal says he hasn’t yet received formal notice, he can confirm that he has been told the demotion is happening. He is expected to be moved to a post that is largely ceremonial.

While there is no official word that the Cardinal is being removed from his position due to an openly, and outspokenly, anti-gay stance, he has made headlines in recent weeks for his comments on related issues.

You know its not a good time to be a bigot in America when even the Catholic church is beginning to come around.

Perhaps he's being demoted for being over four feet tall. That would make more sense than your theory.

I thought it bigotry to remove him. It is the new normal. What was progressive is now conservative and the view the new bigots' position.

Some interesting stuff in that link that raises a few issues.

Is the new Pope demoting this Cardinal because he has expounded views saying that any acceptance of homosexuality in the church is against biblical teachings or is it because his comments are seen as undermining his authority ?

Is Cardinal Burke right to suggest a clarification of the Popes words with regards to policy ? IE is it wrong to soften the official animosity towards homosexuals and same sex marriage whilst having no intention to change the policies on them ?

Is the change of rhetoric coming from the Vatican a genuine shift or is it a public relations campaign designed to claw back appeal within the populations of countries that have genuinely evolved a much more tolerant attitude towards the subject of homosexuality ? An awareness that they are seen as primitive by many for continuing to espouse anti gay sentiments and continued anti gay policies.

My own view tends to favour the latter. Either way ,imo , any move that helps to further dissolve anti gay bigotry , be it genuine or of selfish necessity , should be warmly welcomed. It's peoples sexuality , sexual preferences , leave them to it like you too would like to be left to your own , paedophiles excluded , obviously.
