A second healthcare worker at the Dallas hospital where Ebola patient Thomas Duncan was treated has tested positive for the virus, Texas health officials say.
The Texas Department of State Health Services confirmed that the worker had tested positive in a statement early Wednesday. It did not specify what position the worker held at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, though officials did say that the person was among those who provided care for Duncan, who died from the virus Oct. 8.

The statement said that the worker had reported a fever Tuesday and had been placed in isolation. Preliminary tests were run at the state public health lab in Austin and results came back at approximately midnight Wednesday. A separate test will be done at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta...

I wonder how many more there will be just from that one guy coming to the United States.

It's spreading like wild fire elsewhere.

Mornin' Porchev. :2wave: There are about 70 Medical workers that all came in contact with Duncan in Dallas. Now Friedman of the CDC was saying he was expecting this. Which.....if all was like he said it was with hospitals across the nation and having protocols. They wouldn't be running around talking about breach.

What is he going to say now.....that this worker didn't follow procedures either?

A certain poster yesterday said the transmission to the Nurse didn't qualify as spreading the virus from one Continent to another

Does this qualify as spreading the virus ?

Well the fact of the matter is, is that quite a number of Ebola patients have been treated in the west and so far, only these two in Texas and the Spanish nurse have fallen ill... It's a very worrying development and I'm sure we all wish them well.

But clearly something may not have been done correctly.

The rates of survival in the west are considerably better.

So you will continue to dismiss it as "nothing to see here" until it becomes something to see, then I suspect you'll be nowhere in those threads to answer for your statements.

+1 well said, I agree.

I believe the Texas case is the only case one where someone arrived in the US non-symptomatic. The two cases of infection in the US are also firsts, and I don't believe they've pinpointed the exact date of infection on either case.

Good morning, MMC. :2wave:

C'mon, MMC, you know how careless those hospital workers are - never giving a thought for their own safety, bless their hearts! And the band plays on and on and on.....

Look j-mac, if that's how you want to interpret my post, fine go ahead.

But the reality is... I am frightened.

I work in a resort that attracts visitors from every corner of the globe, I've got a big horse in this fight.

Whether the disease comes here or stops people from travelling, my life is very much connected to this thing.

I even took the time to donate money to Doctors Without Borders because I believe we have to tackle this thing at its source.

But I have to put my faith in what we know about this disease and its infectiousness, in the west there has been a number of Ebola sufferers repatriated and treated and so far 1 nurse in Spain and the two workers in Texas bless their souls have fallen ill.

It's worrying because it shows either there's something wrong with procedure, or the equipment they used, but it doesn't change how transmission occurred which is coming into direct contact with the bodily fluids of an infected individual.

I'd also remind you that it has been almost 21 days since Mr. Duncan was not in quarantine and infectious and no one else he came into contact with got the virus.

This is a very sad day for these healthcare workers, but hundreds of other healthcare workers have already died trying to combat this terrible disease, if this isn't a call to action I don't know what is.

So what do you have to say about the Nurses Association saying Hospitals aren't prepared like Friedman of the CDC says.....that Nurses across the country are saying they aren't prepared like the CDC says.

That's quite a contradiction by our medical people versus those of the Fed and its Bureaucracy. Wouldn't you say?

How in the world would the Dallas nurse getting Ebola not qualify? That is a ridiculous statement by whoever said it.

Mornin Lady P. Here check this out from the Left-leaning Mother Jones. The Nurses aren't going to let this CDC guy keep on lying about hospitals and medical people being ready.

Survey: Four Out of Five Nurses Have Gotten No Ebola Training At All.....

15496602056_2f7fcd85c0_z12.jpg

A new survey conducted by the National Nurses Union shows US hospitals may not be adequately prepared to handle Ebola patients, should the virus continue to spread. Out of the 2,200 nurses who responded to the union's questionnaire, 85 percent reported that their hospitals had not provided education on Ebola. 76 percent said their institution had no policy for how to admit and handle patients potentially infected with the virus. More than a third claimed their hospitals didn't have enough safety supplies, including eye protection and fluid resistant gowns. The survey results were announced on Sunday, just after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed that a health worker in Texas had tested positive for the virus. The CDC's director, Thomas Frieden cited a "breach of protocol" as the likely reason. Now—as agency officials scramble to figure out just what that breach was—nurses are pushing back. On Monday, NNU nurses in red shirts rallied in Oakland, Calif. with signs reading, "Stop Blaming Nurses. Stop Ebola."

"We have been surveying nurses for almost two months about Ebola preparedness," Charles Idelson, an NNU spokesman, said Monday. "What these survey results clearly indicate is that hospitals are still not doing enough to be properly prepared to respond." The CDC has announced plans to deploy an Ebola response team "within hours" at any hospital where an Ebola patient is admitted. At a press conference, Frieden said the agency is responding to calls from hospitals that are underprepared to handle the crisis.

Friedman should be fired. He seems to be lying like a corrupt politician. And he doesn't make any sense when he insists that temporarily banning people from the Ebola outbreak countries from traveling to the United States would make things worse. How would that make things worse?

Oh, and some good news was released this morning. One US Citizen decided to give the CDC 25 Mil. to combat the disease immediately. His name.....Mark Zuckerberg.

Because politically it was stated this would effect economies and the Global economy. But he has lied about US Hospitals being ready and that Nurses were. The Former CDC head Madi stated that only Big hospitals associated with Universities and research are able to handle the matter. Not some little private hospital.

I'd make two comments here:

1. It's to be expected, frankly, that certain members of the medical care sector will become infected with any contagion that a patient carries, particularly in the early stages of that contagion being exposed to hospital environments. I saw it here in Toronto during the early stages of the SARS outbreak several years ago - the secondary infections were almost entirely contained within the medical care sector and many people died as a result but the contagion did not spread beyond the hospital affected.

2. A Canadian drug is now in trials in Maryland at this very moment with expectation of results early in December and likely available to patients of Ebola early in 2015. This drug is very promising and appears very effective against the contagion in trials so far, so I'm quite hopeful that this "outbreak" will be a mere footnote as 2015 progresses.

He gave that 25 million to the CDC. The CDC already gets Billions of dollars and most likely they are not spending it efficiently. That 25 million would be better spent by giving to a private sector company looking for a Ebola cure.

Dallas hospital learned its Ebola protocols while struggling to save mortally ill patient - The Washington Post

The hospital that treated Ebola victim Thomas Eric Duncan had to learn on the fly how to control the deadly virus...

They weren't worried about the virus spreading here, and if it did they had it in the bag............NO PROBLEMO! Yeah right, learning ON THE FLY is how they do it at the CDC.

It will be routed into the nearest Democrat re-election fund no-doubt.

Zuckerberg stated he wanted the money to go to the front lines on the source. He wanted them to have the proper equipment. I don't think they will play with his demand.
