Alaska ban on same-sex marriage ruled unconstitutional

Not sure how those dots connect - according to you, 90% of countries still ban SSM=====> bans not based on bigotry. Heck, in many of those countries the bigotry is overt, expressed through criminal prohibitions on homosexual conduct, punishable by jail or death.

Maybe we're working with different definitions of the word "bigotry." We're using the term as it's defined in the dictionary, and you're making up your own definition.

Close. According to me OVER 90% OF THE WORLD. Over 90% of the world's population. Over 90% of the countries. And of those very small handful of countries trying this insane social experiment, none have done it for more than 15 years in all of modern history. This is a new type of insanity in this 21st century and although it has spread the percentage of people or nations afflicted with it are still in single digits.

I am not interested in excluding people based on their sexual preference. I am interested in marriage staying the sensible institution it has always been (for the most part), as a union of the opposite sex. Homosexual marriage makes no sense at all and is, in fact, an oxymoron.

Serious question:
Why? Why does it matter if two adult dudes want to sign a piece of paper? They're adults, they want to do it, in what universe does that impact you?

How does any of that address my point, or demonstrate the bans are based on something other than bigotry?

Yes, because we need to look up to countries like Iran, Saudi Arabia, CHina, and North Korea for moral guidance. :lamo

There is no insanity, just old pricks that have an archaic mindset of the 1950s that try to pawn off that view on their children to continue bigotry.

isn't that just wonderful, we have an economy in the crapper, a world on fire, and another same sex marriage thread showing how poor individual priorities are. Didn't realize that Marriage was a Federal law as when I got married I got a state marriage license. Liberals will do anything to overturn the will of the people but only on issues they deem important. Marriage has always been common law and all Americans have the same rights, marry someone of a different sex and there is no problem. Now the leftwing wants to overturn the states' rights issue by going through the courts. I have absolutely no problem with states approving same sex marriage but I do have a problem with the Federal Govt. getting involved especially the courts. What a bunch of typical leftwing bs that is destroying the will of the people.

Funny how most Cons had NO problem with marriage being up to the Federal Government UNTIL SSM came along. Cons can go cry me a river. If the economy is MORE important than gay marriage, than legalize it and move on. Until then, they are pissing in the wind and I'm loving them get all wet.

Marriage has never been a Federal issue until liberals threw a tantrum and couldn't get their way at the ballot box. Legalize it at the state level where it belongs. Big central govt. liberals are going to get their way and not like it especially when that big Central govt. returns to Republican control.

We are no longer a country of laws, but rather of men. If only there were some county clerk courageous enough to ignore this ruling.

Big central govt. liberals are going to get their way and not like it especially when that big Central govt. returns to Republican control.

Most of the recognitions/benefits of spouses come from the federal government, not the state. So you can continue the crap about how it hasn't been a federal issue, but you would be wrong. It simply isn't true.

And the federal government has struck down state marriage restrictions, the same thing that same sex marriage restrictions are, 3 times in the past.

We are no longer a country of laws, but rather of men. If only there were some county clerk courageous enough to ignore this ruling.

We have always been a country of "men" who make the laws. Just because you don't approve of the laws, doesn't mean that you are right.

Any county clerks who refuse to give marriage licenses to same sex couples, in these states where same sex marriage is legal, even through the courts, need to be fired.

Sure it did, marriage has been a federal issue for many decades. Cons such as yourself only cared about the federal issue when SS couples wanted to get married. Save your hypocrisy for someone who will buy it. You only show your hypocrisy further by saying the economy is soooo important yet fight against SSM when you had NO problem with federal government getting involved with marriage before. I toasted to the bigots again when NEvada and Idaho allowed SSM and even attened a SSM over the weekend in Nevada. Must suck for you that cons are losing.

Alaska's laws agree with me.

Marriage equality. That's really the right phrase because this isn't about equal rights for people.

I hope my state has the distinction of being the last to succumb to liberal social engineering.

Did you know that marriages are at an all time low? Peculiar isn't it?

Not peculiar to those that understand heteroseuxal marriages were on the decline BEFORE SSM was even legalized. Seems the anti-SSM will try to blame anything on same sex couples now.

Alaska's laws agree with me.

Not for long. Laws of the US are subject to review by the federal courts to ensure that they abide by the US Constitution. A judge has already struck down Alaska's law, and given this past week's decision by the SCOTUS and the decisions that have been made by Circuit Courts so far, I doubt it will last long, if it really is still in effect at all.

Partially due to how we calculate marriage rate. We include anyone 15 or older, which is outdated, even when it comes to our laws, which in many states do not allow 15 year olds to marry. Some states don't even allow anyone under 18 to marry.

Plus, many people are putting off marriage til they are older. Which is better for them and society overall. This means that we need to redo how we calculate marriage mainly.

I'm not sure an older population having children is a good thing.

They might, but my point is with SSM legal marriage should be on the rise.

Older than teens and out of college definitely is a good thing. It is much harder to raise children with no money. And even if you had kids at 30, they would still be adults before you turned 50. It isn't good to have children past 35, but that still gives you almost 15 years to have children between college and around the time where it starts becoming much more risky.

Pedophiles don't have the right to marry who they genuinely love and are sexually attracted to, either. What makes you think there is some right to marry whatever you genuinely love and are sexually attracted to?

God you are just full of sad and pathetic fallacies.

Tell me more about how Two consenting adults are comparable to an adult trying to foster an sexually intimate relationship with a child. A child being, through psychological scientific consensus, utterly unable to navigate such a relationship without serious damage to their psyche.

Point out the similarities please.

Your game of semantics won't work here buddy. But judging by you sad attempts at defending you atrociously ridiculous post, I'll spell out what I meant - though I'm sure you already knew.

Adult Non- Pedophilia Non-Beastiliac Homosexual Men and Women who are Attracted to Other Adults of their own Sex Do Not have the Right to Pursue Marriage with Those That They Truly Have the Capacity to Love and Be Attracted To. Conversely Heterosexual Adults Do Have This Right.

So When You Claim that Heterosexuals and Homosexuals Have the Same Right You are Blatantly Incorrect.

Again, heterosexual marriage has been on the delince for quite a while and despite SSM being legal in many places that doesn't mean that SS couples are just going to go get married because they can anymore than heterosexuals would.

Why not, they've been waiting?

Some have been waiting, and when legal they're getting married. Others aren't ready to get married now and some never will get married.

And....?

The law of Alaska will not be amended for a while, even if it is ignored.
