Texas Health Care Worker Tests Positive for Ebola

You seem to think being non-symptomatic is no big deal. If you have Ebola, the symptoms will eventually appear.

Dressing like this to prevent the transmission of the virus didn't seem to help. Just ask the health care provider in Texas.

It's one of the few saving graces of the virus. The nontransmission if the carrier is nonsymptomatic and the fact that it has a long incubation period.

As far as the gowns not helping you don't know that. For all we know the nurse in Texas did something wrong like contaminate herself when she took off the gown.

Lol! That's like expecting politicians to tell the truth as well. Whenever people have personal gain at stake, they will mold the truth to serve their own self interest, even when it means potentially giving plague to innocent people, as Duncan has illustrated.

It sounds to me like Duncan was one of these people who think Ebola isn't a threat, their are many people on these boards who have voiced similar opinions. They think that because they heard some doctor on NPR say that there's nothing to worry about that it's business as usual. Well other so called experts said that Fukushima was nothing to worry about too.

You people keep saying he lied when the evidence is to the contrary. How many times are you going to repeat that?

Keep in mine the federal government is watching over this concern............... with that in mind, how is your confidence level ?

Like I said if it's anything like my experience with APHIS another federal entity in charge of animal and plant safety I don't have a lot of confidence. You would be a amazed at the dufus decisions some people with PHDs make at the federal level. My aquaculture industry is paying millions for the testing of a virus that does not exist.

Perhaps, after your name calling session is over, you or Jetboogie can explain what America's national interest is for the ebola countries? I am sure you both can as you are completely sure of yourselves.

I will log on later to check.

Insulting the president by referring to him as "the one" is also name calling.

"Explain it. Why is this in our national interest? Be specific. or don't play the game."

Be specific. Or don't play the game.

C'mon, you can do it standing on your head.

I shouldn't have to explain the answer to that question. It's common sense.

"I believe it is Obama's October Surprise. If we have an epidemic we will spend billions of dollars thus spurring economic growth. I am sure it will have an impact on the elections in Reid's favor."

I believe you should check your panty. It might be way too tight.

Nope I'm not the one referring to the CIC as "the one" and making up conspiracy theories.

He would have to be pretty naive to come into physical contact with anyone in Liberia who just collapsed for no reason.

West Africans should know by now what spreads this deadly disease.

The Dallas Hospital has closed its ER. I wonder why ?

Collapsed for no reason? Ever been pregnant? It's pretty hard on a woman's body. Hell some women die from pregnancy.

That Dallas ER has closed its ER.

Apparently due to a lack of Emergency workers.

Now thats interesting.

Could it be that those that worked their know that this disease is beinhg transmitted allot easier than the CDC is letting on ?

Apparently? You're assuming.

Because Europe is closing it's borders and they can get better healthcare in The United States.

The borders are wide open in Europe. At least according to my relatives there. Where are you getting your information?

Sorry, if I'm in the middle of a out of control deadly viral outbreak, Im erring on the side of caution and NOT touching anyone who's currently exibitting symptoms.

That lack of caution cost Duncan his life and spread the diseases on another Continent.

You keep ignoring the fact that that's false.

A person has sufficient viral community in them to spill over into saliva and contaminate towels, doorknobs, sheets, clothing, etc. where it can remain for hours and can be picked up and transmitted to another person, or sufficient to directly contaminate someone with whom they have bodily contact, especially males with the disease in whom the virus survives well in semen, .. for close to around 24 hours prior to the person with the virus being cognizant that they're experiencing symptoms.

You're simply mimicking the CDC line, and although that's sufficient for general communication to the public of demarcations necessary to present a concept to the lower common denominator public consistently, it simply isn't the truth.

The truth here is as I stated it, and that's a truth relevant to many viruses as they grow in numbers in a body, such as the common cold and the flu.

Indeed, the most dangerous time of contagion is right before one starts to "feel" sick, as it is during that final 24 hours of "incubation" when the viral community is beginning to spill over into saliva and other mucous when a person doesn't yet experience the symptoms that they will go about their business as usual, going to school, work, church, etc., completely oblivious to the fact that they've begun to leave a trail of virus on things they touch that can be picked up by others.

It's not about the carrier "showing" symptoms, as that's a calibration from a hypothetical healthcare provider "observing" a person with the virus and declaring "you've got symptoms".

Prior to such hypothetical observation, the person with the virus spilling out into saliva and other bodily fluids didn't feel sick so he didn't avail himself to this hypothetical healthcare provider for observation.

If he doesn't feel sick, he's not presenting sufficient symptoms to even himself to "show" symptoms.

So for that most dangerous 24 hours, those roughly 24 hours prior to sneezing, prior to stomach upset and diarrhea, prior to fever, prior to body aches, he's reached the "overflow" saturation point where he's spilling virus into his external environment.

It's easy to buy the CDC's "don't panic" line, partially because it presents a scenario whereby we can "feel" like we know when we're safe, and partially because it just sounds good.

But, it's false.

And the degree to which it is false is measured in hours, hours that provide a very dangerous window of contamination that those professionals who must monitor people to prevent an epidemic are most assuredly cognizant of, and will thus respect if they're competent professionals and have not been corrupted by agency politicizing to justify policy.

So I'm supposed to take your word for it that it's false? What are your qualifications? Self anointed virologist? You can't even post a link to back up your claims.

Even though I don't have 100 percent confidence in any federal entity, I sure don't get my information from Joe Blow on the Internet.

A medically trained nurse got Ebola. She was probably using an air mask, rubber gloves, and other preventive gear. If all that still fails to prevent the spread, then we're dealing with something that is well above our understanding as far as how we view infectious diseases. STOP ALL AIR TRAVEL FROM WEST AFRICA NOW!

If we don't stop air travel from west Africa, it will likely be the areas with heavy concentrations of African Americans that will be hit hardest, due to the fact that African immigrants tend to settle in African American communities. Obama should at least feel some obligation to protect the people who directly elected him.

The sky is falling. The sky is falling! It's all Obama's fault!

No it hasn't spread it anywhere. It's still in the same place the nurse contracted it. Hyperbole much?

It would be nice to get the truth from the CDC.

Mornin' Fenton. :2wave: He can't even tell the truth as to how many hospital workers that dealt with Duncan.....despite knowing 70 of them. Plus they are watching out for 50 others that came in contact with Duncan.

Nurse Nina Pham was among about 70 staff members at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital who were involved in Thomas Eric Duncan's care after he was hospitalized, according to the records. They drew his blood, put tubes down his throat and wiped up his diarrhea. They analyzed his urine and wiped saliva from his lips, even after he had lost consciousness. The 26-year-old was in his room often from the day he was placed in intensive care until the day before he died last week.

Pham and other health care workers wore protective gear, including gowns, gloves, masks and face shields - and sometimes full-body suits - when caring for Duncan, but Pham became the first person to contract the disease within the United States. Her notes describe nurses going in and out of Duncan's room wearing protective gear to treat him and to mop the floor with bleach. She also notes how she and other nurses were ensuring Duncan's "privacy and comfort," and providing "emotional support.".....snip~

Duncan didn't bring the Ebola virus into the Continental United States and spread it to at least one American citizen ?

You have a problem with honesty or what ?

Then how come they took her dog from her apartment and have her friend isolated if it is still in the same place. When did they say the dog visited the hospital? Touching stuff in her apartment would mean what?

Too much willful ignorance for Jetboogie.

Fenton... I work in a resort that attracts visitors from all over the world.

You don't think I'm scared?

You don't think I'm scared some idiot will travel here, start exhibiting symptoms and than I touch his room key or whatever and get it and pass it on to my 1 year old...

I have to put my faith in what we know and the science behind this as well as precedence which shows that it can be contained, both Nigeria and Senegal proved it can be contained.

So far we've got a man who carried a sick neighbor to a hospital, then returned to the US, got treatment and one of the people who treated him got the virus...

It's been almost 21 days since Mr. Duncan was infectious and not in Quarantine and as far as we know, no one else has contracted the virus.

Hardly the film Outbreak.

The sky is falling. The sky is falling! It's all Obama's fault!

If there is an Ebola outbreak, it's likely to be the poor who are hit the hardest. Which means he's doing nothing currently to protect the poor from what could happen. The CDC has predicted an outbreak.. why is Barack Obola not listening to the CDC?

That's not spreading the virus and you know it.

Then how come they took her dog from her apartment and have her friend isolated if it is still in the same place. When did they say the dog visited the hospital? Touching stuff in her apartment would mean what?

When it actually "spreads" and not just precautions let us know. Until then you speak hyperbole.

He also lied to get to that point.

No he didn't. He wasn't aware he had contracted it. He didn't know the pregnant women had the disease. Please stop perpetuating this myth.
