Some North Carolina Residents Mailed Incorrect Voter Registration Information

And the Koch-funded voter suppression continues...

Wow, the Koch Borthers engaging in voter fraud, where are the conservatives to denounce this deplorable act of fraud?

/crickets

So what do you suppose the evil Overlord Koch Brothers master plan was in sending incorrect voter registration information to a dead two year old girl? Are they trying to suppress the voting rights of dead children?

It's fraud man, you and the cons RAGE against all voter fraud. Rmember, one fraud is too much, you should be demanind justice. Oh wait since a right organization did it, that is ok.

You cons are funny with voting fraud.

Hah, yeah, I remember the raging about ACORN from the left....

Again, I ask, where the fraud here? Were they denying a dead two year old girl the right to vote?

Back when I was a social worker I was under orders from the state to take voter registration applications from everyone who walked into social services even when the applicant was a known illegal alien. Was this fraud?

Let's see what becomes of this... The reason I don't jump on the voter fraud bandwagon is because it's out of character for a conservative group to do in the first place, especially one this high profile. This kind of crap is right in the liberal wheel house, not the conservative one. The other reason is how blatant the mistakes were... If this was some kind of attempt to pull an "ACORN", they did an incredably sloppy job.

If there is something that's found that indicates they did in fact try and pull a fast one, I'll have no problem hammering them over it on this forum.

There are other problems beside who received the mailer. It has factual mistakes as well. It gives voters the wrong deadline for registration and directs them to the wrong state agency to sign up. Bryson chalks that up to a possible "cutting and pasting" mistake.

that part bothers me. do i think that they did it on purpose? i really don't know. i almost doubt it, because that would be a very stupid thing to do. of course someone is going to go to the press with it.

either way, election rules need to be handled federally. the states are ****ing it up too much. there needs to be a national registration standard and early voting rules so that neither side can mess with it. the goal should be that everyone who wants to vote can do so easily without having to stand in line or jump through a bunch of booby traps to do it.

Whose vote was being suppressed by the Koch brothers? They sent it to a dead child.

If you read the article, it didn't stop with sending it to a dead girl:

If you read the article, it didn't stop with sending it to a dead girl. It also had inaccurate voter registration information on it.

I did read the entire article. I didn't see where anyone else's vote was suppressed, or what the net gain was. Did they buy a list of Democratic voters? I doubt it, because the dead girl presumably wasn't a registered Democrat. I'm struggling to see how doing this intentionally took votes away from candidates who weren't the ones the Koch funded group was likely supporting.

Receiving inaccurate voter registration information isn't voter suppression?

or what the net gain was. Did they buy a list of Democratic voters?

I don't know. I do know that hundreds of thousands of people got inaccurate voter registration information. They might have only sent it out to Democratic voters, or maybe the area they sent it out to was largely a blue area. It still happened, it isn't the first time, and the only explanation they can provide is "oopsie, must have been a copy and paste error."

because the dead girl presumably wasn't a registered Democrat

Tell that to the GOP.

Is it some massive conspiracy or is this due to the fact that on whole the government is completely incompetent?

This wasn't the government though. I could actually understand the government doing something stupid like this. A grassroots campaigning organization that does this kind of thing everyday? Not so much...

I'm confused by your last comment (bolded). What does that mean?

If this was intentional to suppress votes, then the list would have to be people who the group didn't want to vote, but I haven't seen anything about that. So I'm not seeing a conspiracy here.

Remarkable. A clear indication of voter fraud but you want to hear their excuse first so you can immediately believe it and give them a pass.

Reading comprehension helps:

Yes, I read that. And this targets who, exactly? If you want to scream voter suppression you have to show that there was some motive and target for the effort. A mass mailing sent to everyone with an error in it has no actual target.

Also from the article:

"He also says the problems are superficial insomuch as they don't give bad information that would suppress votes and says that because of the mailers, 5,000 more people have already signed up to vote this year."

So the "voter suppression" flier has resulted in 5,000 new registered voters. The horror!

It's not a clear indicator of voter fraud! Good Lord you people. You see "Koch Bothers" and take leave of your senses.

You have to show intent and motive. The intent of the mass mailing was to enroll more voters. 5,000 people have registered. Success.

Granted, a typo does have the potential of being an tough obstacle to truly stupid people, so that could disproportionately impact Democrats.

"...The North Carolina Democratic Party filed a formal complaint yesterday, noting it is against the law to intentionally mislead people about voter registration and discourage them from voting. The complaint says Americans for Prosperity, backed by money from the oft criticized Koch brothers, sent incorrect and ‘suspicious’ mailers in other states. .....complainants note that incorrect information was sent to voters in West Virginia, and last year, Virginia voters received letters claiming that recipients hadn’t registered to vote and that they would “Tell their neighbors.” "

Yes, it does. So for it to be willful voter suppression, what was the goal of distributing this error in a mass mailing? Who was the target?

The Democrats call the mailer "suspicious"... well, I'm sold. Lock'em up boys.
