A patient in a Dallas hospital is showing signs of the Ebola virus and is being kept in strict isolation with test results pending, hospital officials said Monday.
In a statement released Monday evening, a spokesperson for Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital said the patient is undergoing evaluation for Ebola based on the patient's symptoms and recent travel history.

This might be the first case if someone wandering into the country with Ebola. If they were in Dallas for a while before going to the hospital, this could be bad bad news.

From now on, any American returning from any Ebola-hit areas in Africa should be quarantined until they've been tested.

This idiot comes home from ground zero and isn't monitored before being allowed in public?

Before they are allowed on the plane.

A news conference was just held and again this is being downplayed. Virus's are serious business, no where near as easy to treat as bacteria. He made mention that if you just wash your hands you won't get it. Sigh.

I read a article about a Nurse who contracted Ebola when she simply touched a ebola victims bare sking with her ungloved hand

She ofcourse died.

The fact this wound up in the US is more than alarming.

From what I've read (particularly in your article), the skin has to be broken. It's apparently transmitted between humans through bodily fluids (like HIV).

Relax, people. This one case is contained. Those that this person may have come in contact with are being tracked and being kept under medical surveillance.

If you think this is a crisis, ask yourself one question: Have you gotten your flu shot this year?

The flu kills 25,000+ in the USA every year.

The doctors aren't making it very clear if the infected person had contact with someone who didn't show any symptoms .....or .....that.he/she had contact with someone who did have symptoms and he still got on the plane...

Either way it doesn't look good.

Apparently you didn't read this article.

There is a real possibility that Ebola could mutate into a virus that is as spreadable as the flu, one of the nation’s top Ebola researchers tells Newsmax Health.

“I don’t want to be an alarmist, but the possibility of Ebola becoming an airborne virus clearly has to be taken into account,” said David Sanders, associate professor of biological sciences at Purdue University.

"Ebola does share some of the characteristics of airborne viruses like influenza and we should not disregard the possibility of it evolving into something that could be transmitted in this way,” added Sanders, whose work on Ebola led to his participation in the U.S. Defense Threat Reduction Agency's Biological Weapons Proliferation Prevention Program.

When will they come up with an ebola vaccine?

Problem solved.

The industrial complex is getting creative with its scare tactics to get the public to give up their money to them. Ebola incubates for up to 21 days but it's only contagious through physical contact with bodily fluids, and people aren't contagious until they start to develop symptoms, i.e. when they are too sick to go anywhere.

The whole thing about ebola "maybe" mutating into a flu-like pathogen is BS and there is no evidence to support that other than a "top researcher" who happens to be a pharmaceutical industry shill.

The epidemic in Africa is mainly from people handling the sick and the dead without proper protection or quarantine procedures. There are also many cases of people recovering with supportive therapy, something the media never talks about. Pharmaceutical stocks are skyrocketing though.

But by all means... may the fear be stoked! Flee for your lives! Teh ebolazzz iz a comin'!

Yeah, the real deal is happening about 70 miles from me. You can take my word that we in the medical community are a bit cautious about this, and imo, it should never have been made possible in the first place.

Or you can keep your head in the sand and hope for the best.

Ebola will make it's way to Mexico 'fore long and then it will cross the Rio Grande like wildfire.

Another reason to be happy that I don't live in Texas.

Remember when the CDC said not to worry about Mad Cow disease because as long as the spinal column is not severed in the butchering process, there is no worry about contact with the prions? As a former meat cutter I know there is no way to quarter a steer without cutting the spinal column. And these people are in charge of our health safety?

It's all about panic control.

It's all panic control.

Yes it is but it can backfire if folks find out they've been lied to.

As someone that runs a business rasing live fish I can tell you stories about how incompetent APHIS is. I wouldn't allow them to babysit my dog.

The young or old or people with compromised immune systems are the ones that usually wind up falling victim to the Flu.

Ebola can amd will kill anyone. If it ever did manage to make it out into the general population it would overwhelm our Health Care system.

As far as " relaxing " ?

The Fed's and the local and State governments are going to down play this right up until it reaches your door step.

Ebola just made it into a American city folks but its not a big deal....

" Wash your hands everyone ".....

This is a HUGE failure on the part of the Federal Government who for one should have banned all travel into the US from these afflicted areas.

Ebola could also evolve into a disease that forces you to dance non-stop until you pass out. Why aren't you preparing for this possibility?

They've JUST quarantined the ambulance crew that transported this guy to the Hospital.

I guess they've got things under control....

I assume by your username that you are/were an airline pilot. If so, have you thought about the crew contamination aspects [cockpit and cabin crews] as they layover and transit the infected areas. Not to mention he fact that they spend many long hours in their high speed aluminum tubes with their passengers. Then they go on to fly hundreds more day after day. What if... fill in you own blank...

By the way... If you are an airline pilot, have you seen this yet?

Interim Guidance about Ebola Infection for Airline Crews, Cleaning Personnel, and Cargo Personnel

September 19, 2014

Purpose: To give information to airlines on stopping ill travelers from boarding, managing and reporting onboard sick travelers, protecting crew and passengers from infection, and cleaning the plane and disinfecting contaminated areas.

Key Points

A U.S. Department of Transportation rule permits airlines to deny boarding to air travelers with serious contagious diseases that could spread during flight, including travelers with possible Ebola symptoms. This rule applies to all flights of U.S. airlines, and to direct flights (no change of planes) to or from the United States by foreign airlines.

Cabin crew should follow routine infection control precautions for onboard sick travelers. If in-flight cleaning is needed, cabin crew should follow routine airline procedures using personal protective equipment available in the Universal Precautions Kit. If a traveler is confirmed to have had infectious Ebola on a flight, CDC will conduct an investigation to assess risk and inform passengers and crew of possible exposure.
