North Texas Patient Tested for Ebola Virus

They've JUST quarantined the ambulance crew that transported this guy to the Hospital.

I guess they've got things under control....

What about every passenger on the plane he rode over on, including connecting flights.

The CDC says dont worry, to stay calm and " wash your hands ".....

Seriously ?

The report I read here stated that he only developed symptoms several days after arriving in the US and so wouldn't have been infectious when travelling.

Are you suggesting people should panic and not wash their hands? It's obviously not the be-all and end-all of the situation but in itself it's perfectly reasonable advice.

Here's another reasonable solution: Require all persons traveling directly or indirectly from Ebola stricken countries to the United States to be quarantined until they can be cleared of carrying the Ebola virus. That's what I'm going to be talking to my Congressional representatives about since they are home on vacation from Congress.

2nd possible case of Ebola in Dallas.

USA Today said:
DALLAS — Health officials are closely monitoring a possible second Ebola patient who had close contact with the first person to be diagnosed in the U.S., the director of Dallas County's health department said Wednesday.

All who have been in close contact with the man diagnosed are being monitored as a precaution, Zachary Thompson, director of Dallas County Health and Human Services, said in a morning interview with WFAA-TV.

"Let me be real frank to the Dallas County residents: The fact that we have one confirmed case, there may be another case that is a close associate with this particular patient," he said. "So this is real. There should be a concern, but it's contained to the specific family members and close friends at this moment."

Officials: Second person being monitored for Ebola

Great now we're at war with Ebola, those poor Ebolanese children..

Relax, people. This one case is contained. Those that this person may have come in contact with are being tracked and being kept under medical surveillance.

If you think this is a crisis, ask yourself one question: Have you gotten your flu shot this year?

The flu kills 25,000+ in the USA every year.

Problem is Ebola starts out with flu like systems and most in the US shrug off the Flu.

No by all means wash your hands.

The American and African aid workers and PHYSICIANS and who've contracted Ebola in Africa should have washed their hands.

You know, because I'm sure those people, aside from wearing a Space suit, took almost no precautions, right ?

So if this guy was around someone with ebola, close enough to become infected, wouldn't it make sense that maybe, just maybe, his attire and belongings may be contaminated. It is common knowledge and well understood that filoviruses have been reported capable of surviving for weeks in blood and can also survive on contaminated surfaces. I wonder who the lucky guy was that got to sit in his passenger seat, use his arm rests, and tray table for the next flight or two? If surface contamination is not a factor, then why did they just show a HAZMAT team in full protective garb come out of that guys house with black trash bags full of stuff? Boy, I hope they washed their hands.;)

From the CDC: Interim Guidance for Environmental Infection Control in Hospitals for Ebola Virus | Ebola Hemorrhagic Fever | CDC

How long does Ebola virus persist in indoor environments?

Only one laboratory study, which was done under environmental conditions that favor virus persistence, has been reported. This study found that under these ideal conditions Ebola virus could remain active for up to six days.1 In a follow up study, Ebola virus was found, relative to other enveloped viruses, to be quite sensitive to inactivation by ultraviolet light and drying; yet sub-populations did persist in organic debris.2

Lol !!

Yes, full body hazmatt suites with respirators for the first responders and or the CDC clean up crew

For the rest of us ? " Wash your hands and dont panick "

Why are people being allowed to fly in from Sub Sahara Africa at all ?

Thank god for small favors. We may not be so lucky next time.

US won't turn back flights over Ebola

The United States will not turn back flights from West Africa over concerns about the Ebola virus, the White House said Monday.

"There are in place a lot of precautions to ensure the safety of the American public and the traveling public," White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Monday at a press briefing.

--SNIP--

"The CDC has assessed that there is no significant risk to the United States from the current Ebola outbreak," Earnest said.

What kind of idiocy led you to come to this brilliant hypothesis? LOL

He's a admitted Socialist.

There you go.

Agency Leading Ebola Response Has Had Budget Cut Nearly $600 Million Since 2010

Thanks you GOP, for making the US vulnerable to dread diseases, just so you can cater to low information voters in trailer parks. The irony is, many of them are in Texas, where Ebola has struck.

Dancing as fast as you can, I see.

The rightwing budget hawk freaks cut the budget for dealing with diseases like Ebola.

Thank you conservatives, for making sure America is infected like some third world country.

LOL !!

I always feel a bit guilty after I'm done rebutting your nonsense and your lame warmed over talking points.

NOT because I'm ever wrong ( Im not ).

Its because I feel like I just out ran a cripple. Or made fun of a Special Olympian.

You understand what I'm saying ?

We should be clear about what kind of medical personnel and environment we're talking about here. In terms of the locals, we're talking about mostly volunteers with an elementary education and zero formal medical training. The environment? A smattering of what can best be described as shacks with no running water or electricity which they call "clinics." Also in countries where soap is a luxury and putting your hands all over dead bodies is a thing. So, yes, much of the blame for this epidemic can be placed on poor hygiene and people who don't know even basic procedure when it comes to handling patients with communicable diseases.

Africa once again spreading the fruit of the Dark Continent to America....
