Saudi Arabia warns Yemen violence could threaten global security

study the history of the country and see if you can figure out just how many members of the 'royal family' there are.

That still has nothing to do with Al Gore's son, and you've lost touch with reality.

Al Gores son has as much to do with the US government as your making a vapid claim about 'members of the royal family'. Abdulaziz married at LEAST 30 women including a daughter of every Bedouin tribe to consolidate power. He himself had 45 sons and numerous daughters. Your effort to tie the vague phrase 'members of the royal family' to the monarchy in power clearly demonstrates just how little you know about the country.

Since Saudi Arabia hates gays, we should send this to them.

No, all of that is a deflection from the fact that Saudi Arabia is not unlike Iran in its support of terrorist organisations. It's just that such things aren't pointed out of "ally's" and exploited of "enemies"

Looks like the Saud was correct with their call from last year, huh? The Coup driven by the Iranians is now being completed. Yemen's President has left the palace and gone into hiding. Others don't want to take part of the breakdown. We are evacuating more people out of Yemen too.

This was BO's trophy case for his FP. It is completely unraveling. Drone strikes strategy will have to change. So will the conflict with AQAP. The Shia have Parliament surrounded and homes of Politicians to, including the Defense Minister. What say ye?

Yemen faces power vacuum after president quits.....

Yemen faced a dangerous power vacuum Friday after its president announced his resignation over a deadly standoff with Shiite militia controlling the capital and lawmakers called an emergency weekend session. Prime Minister Khalid Bahah also tendered his resignation, saying he did want to be part of the collapse of the country.

The fall of Hadi's Western-backed government would raise fears of complete chaos engulfing Yemen, strategically located next to oil giant Saudi Arabia and on the key shipping route from the Suez Canal to the Gulf.....snip~

MMC, I'm probably not correct, but didn't some of the recent releases from GITMO go to Yemen? I get all those sad countries over there mixed up at times, since everyone is fighting each other!

Yep Lady P, they did release some from Gitmo to Yemen. Our people are getting out now, although there is limited people left at our Embassy.

This will also create some major issues with the Saud now. But at least the Saud got up their fence on the Yemen border.

They did-terrorism continues to flourish on Obama's watch.

Has BO peep's incompetent team even have anything to say about Yemen, yet? Or are they still confused over BO losing this trophy.

Wow, reading this thread is like watching Faux noise.

Let's not let details spoil a broad brush smear.

First the released detainees are SUNNI men while the rebels are SHIA. Enemies not partners... :doh

Next two of the released detainees are dead due to drone strikes. Thank you Obama.

Third the issue is still in flux and there is little 'hope' the SUNNI faction will be in power.

Fourth, while it is disturbing to the 'crown' prince for Yemen to be openly an ally of Iran the fact is until recently the Sunni majority was suppressed in Yemen. While many don't like the rebels they are Shia and not likely to side with an ancient enemy, the Sunnis.

So using facts this is annoying to Saudi interests and until now the Saudis gave little attention to Yemen internal politics as long as the Saudi interests were upheld.

Sort of the way the Good ol' USofA handles much of the world... :peace

Wow reading what you said.....just goes to show you aren't up to much on Yemen. Nor do you really understand that Sectarian divide issue.

First off the Detainees are Sunni and AQAP are Sunni and they have been going after the Shia and Zaydi. Oh and AQAP being Sunni and going after other Sunnis. Puts that into another perspective of what you didn't know.

Also the issue isn't in Flux. The parliament is being held Captive. The President has abdicated and stepped down. The US and Westerners are leaving the Country in a hurry.

Right the Saud paid so little attention they put up a border fence between Yemen. Just where do you get all that BS that you come up with.....as reality just isn't it.

Saudi Arabia has got to be one of the sorriest nations, for their leaders being involved, in the world. Since the 1950's, we've been supporting them and buying their oil, making them one of the richest countries per capita on the globe, and they contribute little to nothing in fighting the extremism in their region. If nothing else, they've actually supported some of it with covert funds, and only get involved in anything that directly affects them.

Now that Yemen, their back door neighbor is being destabilized, they cry again for help but use none of their massive wealth, military or support to fund and fight themselves. What a bunch of dummies we are for not forcing them to take more action, but we're too busy being their protector, since they controlled so much of our energy needs.

The citizens of Saudi Arabia are sympathetic to the terrorists. The government is afraid that if they go hard against the terrorists it might spark a revolution in Saudi Arabia.

Thats true, and there are currently revolts in what 3 of their neighboring nations?

Yeah there is.....oh, and with what that Prog said about the Saud and Yemen. No where close to the truth.

US DRONE CAMPAIGN
Hadi's resignation leaves the U.S. without a faithful partner amid its drone-strike and counter-terrorism campaign. Hadi's demise comes four months after President Barack Obama cited Yemen as a terrorism success story in a September speech outlining his strategy against the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria, which involves targeted U.S. strikes on militants with the cooperation of a friendly ground force. Obama called it an approach "that we have successfully pursued in Yemen and Somalia for years."

IRAN
The Houthis are seen as a proxy of Shiite Iran and are allied with former President Ali Abdullah Saleh, who ruled the country for more than three decades before he was ousted in 2012 after Arab Spring protests. While the militants deny any Iran link, their slogan, "Death to Israel, Death to America!" is a variation of a popular Iranian slogan.

In recent years, Yemeni authorities have seized ships carrying Iranian weapons allegedly destined for the Houthis. The Saudis, who oppose Iran, view the Houthis as both an Iranian proxy and a terrorist organization. Riyadh fears the group will create a mini-state on its southern border.....snip~

5 things to know: Why crisis in Yemen matters to Americans - AP News 1/24/2015 3:17 AM

Been that way for years.....one can see why the Saud is concerned and keep a keen eye out on what happening with Yemen.
