Yesterday and today they have been talking about possible retaliation from sympathizers here in the US. Moreso today on several radio stations. Bulletins have all been sent out to all law enforcement. Which it is common to put out the warnings, but then after a French citizen was snatched up. The word was being re-emphasized. We bombed them again today in Syria. Another 10-12 strikes on them and their chatter over the twitter has increased with their calls for violence. Think any of these Sympathizers in the US will do anything?

Federal authorities today urged law enforcement across the country to be alert for possible attacks inside the United States in retaliation for U.S. airstrikes against the Islamic group ISIS, the brutal terrorist group that beheaded American journalist James Foley and has seized vast swaths of territory in Iraq and Syria. In a joint bulletin issued to local, state and federal law enforcement, the Department of Homeland Security and FBI said that while they are “unaware of any specific, credible threats against the Homeland” and find most threats to the U.S. homeland by supporters of ISIS “not credible,” they cannot rule out attacks in the United States from sympathizers radicalized by the group’s online propaganda.

“ISIL members and supporters will almost certainly continue to use social media platforms to disseminate their English-language violent extremist messages,” the bulletin concluded. “Although we remind first responders that content not explicitly calling for violence may be constitutionally protected, we encourage awareness of media advocating violent extremist acts in particular locations or naming particular targets, to increase our ability to identify and disrupt potential Homeland threats. We urge state and local authorities to promptly report suspicious activities related to homeland plotting and individuals interested in traveling to overseas conflict zones, such as Syria or Iraq, to fight with foreign terrorist organizations.” In addition, the bulletin said that “civilian deaths reportedly associated with these U.S. military air strikes will almost certainly be used as further examples of a perceived Western war against Islam in English-language violent extremist messaging that could contribute to [homegrown] radicalization to violence.” .....snip~

I call BS on Homeland Security's assemssment only because we were being threatened long before we did anything against ISIS. ISIS was threatening to spread to the world long before the U.S. had a response.

In otherwords, we were going to get a retaliation no matter what.

Agreed.

Mornin' TNE. :2wave: Yeah I think the threats were there before.....but now DHS is concerned with the high volume of traffic over Twitter. I was wondering why we haven't taken out their means of communications. Especially if they know they are looking to use social media.

What did you think about their comment about a perceived Western War against Islam?

That makes about as much sense as posting "low flying aircraft" caution signs near airports. The message from the administration (via homeland insecurity) is that our attacks against ISIS are responsible for any upcoming domestic terror attacks but you were warned. ;)

What??? We're killing civilians in Syria!!! Surely not.

Well, I'm suprised twitter, the government of Syria, or businesses that provide their connection haven't blocked their area to be honest.

As for ISIS talking about a Western War with Islam, that is what they have wanted all along. They want this to be a religious war, so they are using it as a rallying tool now. If they can make it a religious war, they can get more people.

Retaliation, RETALIATION!

They've wanted their caliphate since they lost it after WW1. Hussein, Mubarak, Gaddafi, and Assad gave no quarters to these extremists, but I suppose that's water under the bridge.

Mornin Monte. :2wave: Well they want to make sure they had the word out so ISIS can't play on them like Hamas does. Yet that's what they will do. We need to take out all their communications.

Force them to use smoke signals and snail mail.

Looks like it is working.....their recruitment is up and rising just over the attacks.

I agree.....Assad should be shutting down their communications and going after any power sources. They said todays strikes were all on the border town crossing into Iraq.

I'm sure the government would 100% tell us we're in some "danger" from ISIS. Whether or not we actually are is a different story.

It was facetious, we've been killing civilians all over the ME, for some years now. It's a good extremists recruitment tool though. Morning to you, MMC!

This is why I think the ME countries should be the lead, officially, and directing the U.S. military strikes. As long as the U.S. takes the lead, it will just fill their ranks. If say SA was taking the lead, they couldn't call it a western war against Islam as easy.

If our intelligence gathering is reduced to Twitter....

This just stinks to high heavens of government trying to pretend we're at higher risk so that they can excuse suspicious and likely illegal behavior.

Do we have to wait for the smoking gun in the form of a mushroom cloud over a US city? Come on dude, get with the program.

Agreed. This is no different than the idiots who call 9/11 a "retaliation".

MMC wants to kick some ass, you really should stop being negative.

Mushroom cloud over a US city. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA

You want me to live in fear because we can't stop bombing the ME for decades? No. We're not in any more danger than we have been in the past. Terrorism is a probability, a rather low one at that, though given enough time you will see the probability work out. But that's not enough to excuse the actions of government. Everything has probabilities, hell freedom has probabilities with it. A probability tends to be better than the certainty of government action.

And mushroom clouds? Please, that bit of juvenile propaganda and fear mongering isn't going to work here. Get better material.

Do we have to wait for the smoking gun in the form of a mushroom cloud over a US city?

Yes we do. It's only been 13 years since 9/11 and that action has faded fast.

Agreed. This is no different than the idiots who call 9/11 a "retaliation".

I suppose you think Al Qaeda attacked us because we have Starbucks, Gap Jeans and capitalism.

In bin Laden's November 2002 "Letter to America",[3][4] he explicitly stated that al-Qaeda's motives for their attacks include: Western support for attacking Muslims in Somalia, supporting Russian atrocities against Muslims in Chechnya, supporting the Indian oppression against Muslims in Kashmir, the Jewish aggression against Muslims in Lebanon, the presence of U.S. troops in Saudi Arabia,[4][5][6] U.S. support of Israel,[7][8] and sanctions against Iraq.[9]

It doesn't matter. Propaganda isn't the truth anyway.

Mornin Ikari. :2wave: Well we do have people watching the twitter.....but then I think it was more to do with that group Khorasan. Yesterday they mentioned they were concerned about lone Wolf Attacks after ISIS released a video calling for the lone Wolves to do something.

Syrian Airstrikes Raise Lone Wolf Terror Threat in US, Feds Warn

American airstrikes in Syria overnight halted the threat of terrorist attacks in the U.S. homeland from organized groups like ISIS and al Qaeda, but raised the specter of angry lone-wolf sympathizers carrying out an attack on their own, federal authorities said today. The American airborne offensive could potentially embolden self-radicalized terrorists to strike inside the homeland, the Department of Homeland Security and FBI say in a joint bulletin issued to local, state and federal law enforcement late today.

While “single events generally do not provoke an immediate response” from homegrown extremists, “[W]e believe these strikes will contribute to homegrown violent extremists’ … broader grievances about U.S. military intervention in predominantly Muslim lands, possibly motivating Homeland attacks,” according to the bulletin. The bulletin notes ISIS’ prolific online campaign and cites a recent audio message from ISIS that called for “lone offender attacks in the Homeland in retaliation for U.S. military operations in Iraq and Syria,” as the bulletin put it. And though “in the near term” most homegrown terrorists will try to join groups overseas rather than carry out their own attacks in the United States, authorities “cannot rule out the possibility … that some [homegrown terrorists], acting alone or in small groups, could attempt simple attacks with little or no warning,” according to the bulletin.

The bulletin stresses the “importance” of the American public reporting suspicious behavior and “remain[ing] vigilant.” ....snip~

Meh, what's the probability on that happening? Pretty sure my probability of death today has not changed from its historic values.
