Hundreds of Colorado students protest history curriculum[W:234]

No, its your guys who are objecting to teaching about things like slavery or genocide of Native Americans in a "negative light," as if it's some horrifying thing to admit that America has a seriously ****ed up past.

But apparently that's unpatriotic, and we must punish anyone who isn't patriotic!

Actually, I don't believe anybody has said that we shouldn't teach about slavery or genocide of Native Americans, but they CLEARLY have said that those are NOT the only things that should be taught, nor should they be the sole focus of a US History class.

Moderation in all things, my friend, moderation in all things .... (Hell, you might even want to throw in a modicum of truth while you're at it)

The best misconception is that the revolutionaries were outnumbered by the British when in reality the revolutionaries outnumbered the British...

I have a **** ton of historical "misconceptions."

Actually, that's false ... but that's okay. Clearly, facts aren't real important to you.

Public school I see?

It is true and everything I say is true...

How many soldiers you think the Brits could fit on a boat?

Yep, I would have been right there with them. I hope this has a real impact.

Much like the NEH standards debate of 20 years ago, it seems people are agreeing on concept, but nevertheless disagreeing by using overly vague generalities of intensity.

People are acting like sheep...

I have noticed that they obey and follow authority and government leadership when it's conservative. For example, I remember Fox News screaming at Bush Admin protestors as being "unAmerican." But if you're antigovernment or small government, shouldn't you be critical of all forms of government? It doesn't make sense to me.

That's a given. Every 4-8 years there's a cheerleading competition. Then on the sidelines, there's a group that wants to point out the hysteria of the two groups. Further behind them are the few who say it must be so and let them bicker. I'm the last, the libertarians and the independents tend to be the third.

I suspect the patriotism crap they hope to teach is anti-immigrant or "real America" indoctrination too. BS.

It's all indoctrination, or socialization if you want a tamer word.

It's fine though. We hammer out the details, and it becomes moderated.... conservative. Just as it should be. Patriotism and nationalism mold with various amounts of critical thinking and minority consciousness. Life goes on.

Tsk, tsk ....

General Washington never had an army larger than 17,000 under arms at any one time. (Over 90,000 served in the Continental Army, but a significant portion of them for only 6 month enlistments prior to Valley Forge [1777]).

The English, on the other hand, had over 60,000 under arms in 1779 alone - including 25,000 hired Hessians from Germany. In addition, until the addition of the French to the battles, the English had complete control of the east coastal cities via their uncontested navies (not included in the figures above). There were also an estimated 25,000 Loyalists who fought along side the British. http://www.americanrevolutionarywar.net/

Damn facts are a pesky things, aren't they?

I'm not preaching the end of the world.... See this is why you progressives are funny.

You may as well be. I might be a progressive because I agree with the means and a severely moderated version of what they saw as the end, but in the end, if I were to be pooled in with them, then I'm not a good progressive. I haven't the idealism in me that you do. Idealism seems to me far more present in your words than mine. I'm interested in small gradual changes, if not the status-quo for most things.

Hundreds of Colorado students protest history curriculum changes that would promote patriotism | Fox News

I'm with the students on this one. Complete bs on the part of that school board. No curriculum should be biased or censored, just straight facts.

Don't tell that to the religious right which wants to get the government off of Wall Street's back and into every American bedroom.

"Better days are coming." ~ But not for today's out of touch, running out of time, GOP.

Good... I don't care.

What does this have to do with a boat? PLEASE tell me you're joking, and I'm not getting it .. cuz you sure ain't making a hell of a lot of sense.

Good... I don't care.

You did enough to post to me about it this time and other times before. You cared enough to post probably thousands of times about your rather misguided perception of progressivism.

Besides, it's not as if a self-described libertarian could fault the progressives for being awash in idealistic fantasies with any degree of seriousness.

Re: Hundreds of Colorado students protest history curriculum

OP story = Right wing school board wants to censor history

Right wing take away = Liberals want to censor history!
!!

No matter what is said some people will always see and hear what they want to see and hear.

How many people do you believe can fit on a ****ing wooden boat? do you want to argue or are you just this dense?

Furthermore since it took damn well 3 months to cross I think the patriots would be ready..

LOL --- drinking tonight?

What about the 20,000 troops that were still stationed in the colonies after the French & Indian War? Probably shouldn't count them, huh? Probably shouldn't mention the build-up in 1774-76 either, in order to support the tax collectors, huh? Or, the ones used to guard the land grants given by the King to his favorite supporters, huh?

Do yourself a favor ... take the time to actually study it.

You do realize both the French and Indians fought on behalf of the revolutionaries?

You know nothing about history...

Despite what you were taught when you were 7 - the revolutionaries smoked the British.....
