US Airstrikes Under Way in Syria[W:354]

Re: US Airstrikes Under Way in Syria

Hows this for democrat talking points?

BO has announced we were successful.....and they hit Khorasan due to them going into their final phase of an attack in Europe or here.

Army Lt. Gen. William Mayville, Jr., Director of Operations J3, speaks about the operations in Syria, Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014, during a news conference at the Pentagon. In a separate action from the air strikes against the Islamic State group, the U.S. bombed a cell of al Qaida militants in northwestern Syria after concluding they were close to attacking the U.S. or Europe, Pentagon officials say. Mayville, the Pentagon’s operations chief, said that the Khorasan Group was nearing “the execution phase of an attack either in Europe or the homeland." ......snip~

The United States and its Arab allies bombed Syria for the first time on Tuesday, killing scores of Islamic State fighters and members of a separate al Qaeda-linked group, opening a new front against militants by joining Syria's three-year-old civil war.....snip~

Airstrikes in Syria: US, Arab allies hit IS sites

Re: US Airstrikes Under Way in Syria

This may answer that question Pero. :2wave: It has to do with Khorasan/ Former AQ. Yeah and ISIS already moved its leadership and clerics out of there. 2 weeks ago they started hiding equip and tech. Including the Scuds they took from Assad. 14 attacks on ISIS with Air Strikes and 47 Tomahawks were fired. They hit ISIS' HQ to, unfortunately nobody was home.....at the time. Also 8 strikes on Khorasan.

US Syria raids also aimed at thwarting attack plot: Pentagon.....

US forces staging the first strikes against Islamic State jihadists in Syria also targeted a separate extremist group plotting an imminent attack against US and Western forces, the Pentagon said. In the air strikes against IS jihadists, the US was aided by Arab allies Bahrain, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, it said.

Eight US air strikes were also aimed at the hardline Khorasan Group which is made up of former Al-Qaeda operatives, the Pentagon said in a statement. "The United States has also taken action to disrupt the imminent attack plotting against the United States and Western interests conducted by a network of seasoned Al-Qaeda veterans -- sometimes referred to as the Khorasan Group -- who have established a safe haven in Syria to develop external attacks, construct and test improvised explosive devices and recruit Westerners to conduct operations," the statement said.....snip~

Usually, the President notifies the country just after an attack as taken place, but the chump in chief notified ISIS 10+ days ago that we were going to strike-so they have had plenty of time to hide.

Re: US Airstrikes Under Way in Syria

I doubt that many of the ISIS people who have been killed by U.S. airstrikes will agree with you.

The U.S. military can put a lot of bombs and missiles on a lot of targets in a short period of time.

ISIS is up to like 30K people I read. How many were killed in the strike vs in the typical day in ISIS territory?

Some more pics.

Smoke rises following explosions in Syria near the border with the Israeli occupied Golan Heights September 23, 2014. Israel shot down a Syrian warplane on Tuesday, saying the aircraft crossed the battle lines of Syria's civil war and flew over the Israeli-held Golan Heights, perhaps by accident.....snip~

Re: US Airstrikes Under Way in Syria

Well, one can note how all the Sunni would have no trouble sending in their Air power into Syria......if we had not been part of this, this does not happen due to Assad's Anti Air. As well as all then noticing that Sectarian divide for what it really is. Which to the Saud and the Sunni far outweighs the Dictator Assad.

Al Sadr in Iraq is already stirring up the Shia and wants the US out of Iraq. Which really they don't care so much for the Kurds either.

I'm not sure we had any other choice than to strike ISIL in Syria, and we may eventually have to do more. Once we committed to that area, we assumed responsibility somewhat for the outcome. Also, they're not going to stop trying to target US assets and soil going unchallenged. We need to make the peoples of those areas uninspired to attack us or commit genocide on others.

I've really failed to see the style of our fighting as anything but about image than success. I, personally, have never hit someone, just enough, to encourage them into punching my face. I either commit full on or run, but I don't half ass it.

Re: US Airstrikes Under Way in Syria

If not now we soon will.

I dont know about that, air superiority would require a much larger presence and this was just a strike. Even if assad agrees to not fire on US aircraft, and even if we destroy ISIS anti-air emplacements-there are still many manpads there-those cant be suppressed.

Now some of our drones can fly far above this, in a low threat environment but it wont be air superiority where we simply dominate from the air.

Re: US Airstrikes Under Way in Syria

Oh the Petrodollar...

This is what happens when you confuse cause, for effect. And you ignore history. You wanna know the reason why we were planning before 9/11 for a war in Iraq? Because we had already been forced into airstrikes against Iraq, and it also might have been because Iraq wasn't being that cooperative. (Oh, and I'm sure the grudge between GW and Saddam had nothing to do with the attempt on his Father's life. I think something like that would probably be taken personal.) Finally, you realize that the military is planning military engagements right now for China? For Pakistan? Is this also because their running away from the Pedropound of whatever? Of course not, that's because the military is always game planning for the current Strategic threats out there. Heck, we had one for Afghanistan, and that's why only hours after the attack we already had special forces inside Afghanistan readying military operations.

Also, you realize the US doesn't even get the majority of Iraq's Exports right? Hell, we're not even getting the largest cut of Iraq's oil. But I suppose that's something you conveniently missed hmm?

Shows you have no idea what the petrodollar is. Good day.

Re: US Airstrikes Under Way in Syria

Here is the thing, you cant win a war against terrorists, you can win a war against a country, but not against an idealology.

Really? I seem to recall that the overwhelming application of military force for several years put an end to the idealology of Nazism as a serious threat to the world.

Re: US Airstrikes Under Way in Syria

I like how you keep forgetting that Al Malicki had no interest in providing a place in his government for the Sunnies which has a lot to do with the situation.

It certainly exacerbated things but these were foreign fighters who came INTO Iraq.

Re: US Airstrikes Under Way in Syria

I'm all for going after these cockroaches, and I know it's a horribly difficult prospect to do so.

But I'm certain this will be entirely ineffective, and now Obama wants to arm the very people he laughed off a few weeks ago. This will serve only to arm ISIS further as they defeat this "army" we support and confiscate the weapons we provide. This will only exacerbate the problem.

Worse still, this is just conveniently timed for the elections in November. A big campaign strategy is at the root of this whole thing. Nice that Obama uses our military in that fashion these days.

Obama has started and lost wars entirely for politics. Its what he does.

Re: US Airstrikes Under Way in Syria

Up until some airplanes hit buildings on our shores? Or even after that?

These guys aren't going to quit. They are viewing this as a generational conflict, and we need to start treating it as such as well, lest we always get caught on our back foot.

Despite our Presidents disdain for the term, we still are fighting the war on terror. Nothing is over, or will be for decades.

Well, I'm not Psychologist. My Bachelor of Science degree major is in Psychology, however. This is a mute point though since I base my prediction on past postings by US Conservative and his ilk.

Its a "mute" point, eh?

Re: US Airstrikes Under Way in Syria

You are repeating the Obama excuses, and lies, when any negotiations were easy and straightforward. Obama promised to pull the troops from Iraq, he had American electoral support to do that, and was determined to do that. He just did a little CYA later, but everyone expected a SOFA agreement to be signed and put in place. Biden called this withdrawal their 'greatest accomplishment' and certainly never mentioned Maliki.

I'm repeating what happened. You're pretending it didn't. I think this is the difference between liberals and conservatives.

The fundamentals fact of the current Mideast is that Bush/Cheney's ineptitude and arrogance resulted in chaos, including the rise of ISIS.

Re: US Airstrikes Under Way in Syria

Because he listens to pressure from people like you.

Obama's approval numbers fell so low that Obama needed to go to the Clinton playbook of "carpet bombing" to take ones eyes off the real issue.. and with Obama the only real issue is Obama and his approval numbers...Obama said he already beat AQ by votoing agaisnt everyhting that defeaed AQ.. andthen anounced "they were on the run"...so it only makes sense that this is for show as radical Islam doesnt even exist to Obama..

this war can only be judged by Obamas real mentors like Jay Z and Beyonce..and if he gets a pop in his numbers... If Obamas numbers were sky high.. he'd do nothing.. Obama has no integrity or plan other than Obama

And if Russia decides it's okay to bomb certain targets in America, even though we're a sovereign country just as Syria is, is that going to be okay too? What :bs: is this? And exactly who is doing the bombing?

And this is not the first time. The U.S. once invaded the sovereign nation of Mexico with a military force led by Gen. Pershing, just because Pancho Villa and his men had crossed the border and raided a little town on the U.S. side. That was nothing but imperialist aggression by this horrible country, and yet one more reason we should all be ashamed of it. If the government of Mexico wanted to let Mr. Villa and his friends invade the U.S. and commit crimes there, that was its sovereign decision, and we had no business trying to impose our will on Mexico.

At first glance I thought you wrote "vacationing" and were referring to Bush's penchant to fiddle while Rome burns.

Back to the reading issue again, eh......More than likely that's due to not wanting to recognize what else was going on with 2/3rds of the Planet.....while worried about a lil Bush in the city.

Why are all the countries shown above ME countries? Where are France, England, Germany, and other Western countries, or even the UN flags? All the countries listed are those that few people would have considered "friendly" to the US a few months ago. Some of those countries are known to be funding the terrorists, or having training camps for them! What is going on here, and how did we persuade them to bomb their own "brethren?" Is it a matter of "assist us now, or go it alone later?" It would be the same as us bombing Sweden or Poland because Qatar was upset with them, wouldn't it? Weird....
