McDonald’s fresh hope to turn around slumping sales: Ordering burgers from a [W:391]

Re: McDonald’s fresh hope to turn around slumping sales: Ordering burgers from a mach

There you go, lying again.

All you did was quote me saying that 10% is not a large part.

It's not

Then again, it may just be illiteracy. I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt.

The only illiteracy I see is not understanding the difference between "amount" and "part" (or "share") and between "significant portion of labor" and " significant portion of total expenses"

25% of total labor is a significant portion of labor. 10% of gross revenue is not an inconsequential sum. You can't bring yourself to admit this simple fact. It would be funny, if it weren't so sad...

I said nothing about "total labor". Your attempt to put words in my mouth is a fail.

Then it's a reading comprehension problem on your part. 10% of total sales approximates 1/3 (cashier force) of 1/3 (total labor cost) of total sales; 1/3 of 1/3 is 1/9, which is pretty damn close to 10% (which is a feasible approximation, since labor cost generally runs in the ballpark of 35%, making 10% generously low at that). This has all been explained to you, several times now.

I repeat my comment about remedial math with an emphasis on fractions and percentages. And, apparently, reading comprehension.

No matter how you try to spin it, 10% is 10%, and it's a small fraction (1/10 to be exact) of the whole

So now you're back to this. First it's "not very much," then "I [sangha] never said that," then it's "total sales, not total labor", and now "total labor is spin." 10% is huge. You are just flat out wrong.

You're a f*ckin' peach.

Re: McDonald’s fresh hope to turn around slumping sales: Ordering burgers from a mach

You didn't read your own article

'If you’ve ever felt guilty ordering at McDonald’s, the fast-food mega-chain has just the fix: You can now order your own quarter-pound bacon cheeseburger from a welcoming, non-judging machine.

Battling the worst sales slump in a decade and competition from build-your-own upstarts like Chipotle and Smashburger, McDonald’s is expanding a test concept built around ordering via tablet. Just tap on a screen and watch as your burger’s toppings (and calories) pile on, then wait for an employee to bring it over. No human interaction necessary.

McDonald’s move towards dehumanization, launched as a pilot last winter and expanded across San Diego last week, is part of a larger trend of chain eateries turning tablets into your full-time restaurant buddy: equal parts menu, server and paycheck. Applebee’s, Panera Bread and even airport bars have installed tablets to allow diners to order food or booze without a wait.'

McDonald’s fresh hope to turn around slumping sales: Ordering burgers from a machine - The Washington Post

This is what happens when - among other reasons - you start demanding higher pay then your position is worth (like fast food workers demanding $15/hr.).

If these fast food workers force Congress to adopt a $15/hr. minimum wage? I guarantee you that the above will be the result...automation and mass layoffs.

It ain't rocket science people - you are VERY replaceable.

Re: McDonald’s fresh hope to turn around slumping sales: Ordering burgers from a mach

I agree, the food isn't the best quality, even for the price. Wendy's makes great hamburgers and chicken for the same price. The meat at McD's doesn't really taste like real beef... :afraid:

From a business standpoint this is a ridiculous move.

The reason McDonalds's sales are slumping is because they have an inferior product as compared to their competition. 5 Guys, In 'n' Out, and others offer a better burger at more or less the same price.

If McD's wants to get back their market share they need to go back to their roots and start offering a marginal burger really, really fast. For decades the whole reason people went to McD's is because by the time you finished ordering your meal was on the tray in front of you. Yeah, the burger had been sitting under a heat lamp for 10 minutes and it really wasn't that great but it was also 29 cents and in your hand damned near before you could blink. They don't need specialty burgers and coffee lounges. They just need clean restaurants and lickity split service with the same old mediocre burgers they've always had.

Re: McDonald’s fresh hope to turn around slumping sales: Ordering burgers from a mach

In most states waiters and waitresses are not paid a full wage. Is many states they make $2.13 an hour and are taxed as though they make a full wage. They are expected to make up the rest of their pay in tips. A restaurant must be really hurting if laying off a few waiters or waitresses helps their bottom line.
(I know I am late to the party)
This is not true. Waitstaff must be paid AT LEAST the normal minimum wage if their hourly + tips doesn't exceed the minimum wage. So they are taxed as if they make a full wage because they do!

Re: McDonald’s fresh hope to turn around slumping sales: Ordering burgers from a mach

All Micky D has to do to help slumping sales is make a better product, like they once did.

Five Guys has a phenomenally better burger than McD's. Ten bucks for Burger and Fries at Five Guys isn't even close to McD's Where a person can get a combo with a drink for 5-6 bucks.

So now you're back to this.

It's what I've been saying all along.

First it's "not very much,"

It's not

then "I [sangha] never said that," then it's "total sales, not total labor",
I never said anything about total sales. Please quote where I said something about total sales or admit you lied

and now "total labor is spin." 10% is huge. You are just flat out wrong.

The only thing I said about total labor is that we're not talking about total labor.

You're a f*ckin' peach.

I seriously doubt a waiter or waitress whose employer has to make up the difference will still be employed.

So illiteracy then. Got it. Thanks for playing.

My only point was that the reason they are tax at full wage rates is because they legally must be paid at least minimum wage (or a "full wage") whether people follow the law I have no idea.
