British aid worker David Haines appears to have been executed by ISIS militants, according to a video posted Saturday to a website associated with the group, making him the third Western captive to be killed by the Islamist extremist group in recent weeks.

The ISIS video post showing Haines' apparent beheading called his execution "a message to the allies of America."

It is produced very similarly to the videos that showed the executions of American journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff, the last of which included Haines and the threat that he'd be killed next.

The new video pictures a masked ISIS militant placing his hand on another captive, whom he identified as Alan Henning, a British citizen.

News of the gruesome killing came the same day that Haines' family released a brief message to his captors through the British Foreign Office.

In it, the family says, "We have sent messages to you to which we have not received a reply. We are asking those holding David to make contact with us."

A logistics and security manager for the Paris-based Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development, a nongovernmental humanitarian agency, the 44-year-old Haines was abducted in March 2013 near a refugee camp in Atmeh, Syria.

At that time, Haines was working to arrange for the delivery of humanitarian aid to people staying at the camp. He had previously worked on aid operations for victims of conflict in the Balkans, African and other parts of the Middle East, according to an ACTED spokesman.

Absolutely sickening. Whatever their 'cause' may be, their continued displays of barbarism further solidify ISIS's status as subhuman filth. The guy tries to help those who are suffering in the region and gets his head cut off as a result. Sometimes I feel that the ME is truly hopeless.

Wow, they aren't wasting any time, are they? Savages......

Unable to comprehend the mindset of ISIS.

This is all done to antagonize the West. Do they hope to be carpet bombed?

I wish we had the intellingence to hit them from an unconventional method that they have never even thought of.

3 months ago, they were moving their main body in the wide ass open.

Yes, it's obviously 'workplace violence' and has nothing to do with Islam.

Its retaliation pure and simple- since they dont have drones or smart bombs they use terrorism. If they had better weapons you can bet they'd use them too.

These killings are a retaliation for Western airstrikes. Pretty obvious, really.

I don't think you can attribute it to that ... this is an attempt by ISIS to say 'We are serious about this, and you should just go home, because you've proven you aren't serious. How many are you willing to allow die before you acquiesce, pack your bags, and go home?"

maybe the best way to beat ISIS is by using airstrikes and drone strikes.

The Brit beheaded had nothing at all to do with Western airstrikes.

Sure it did, look at the OP article:

Directing his remarks at Britain, the executioner -- who sounds like the man who killed Foley and Sotloff -- says, "Your evil alliance with America, which continues to strike the Muslims of Iraq and most recently bombed the Haditha dam, will only accelerate your destruction and claim the role of the obedient lap dog.

"Cameron will only drag you and your people into another bloody and unwinnable war."

I agree and they'll be striking innocent American people just as the DC snipers did and the Muslim (whose name I forget) at Fort Hood. This is the latest murder but the media, and of course the government, is playing it down. Brendan Tevlin's Jihadist Revenge Murder Evidence That 'Domestic Terrorism Is Already Here' - Fox Nation

It doesn't matter. They are terrorists and will kill those citizens who belong to any country they feel attacked Muslims. Don't look for anything rational here, or the way we would respond to these situations.

I agree with this. They don't have the ability to retaliate in any significant way, so out of desperation they are hitting us where they feel they can possibly affect us... our 'softness' for the individual. This also tells me that air strikes are actually effective, and that we should keep them up.

You mean the richest terrorist group in existence can't afford anything more than a knife?

Where do you get your information?

For anyone actually interested in the life of David Haines and his courage and committment to Humanitarian Issues whilst he was still alive, here's a statement from his brother.

“My name is Mike Haines, I am brother to David Haines, who was recently murdered in cold blood. “David was like so very many of us, just another bloke. Born in 1970 to parents who loved us both, our childhood was centred around our family. Holidays in caravans and tents, days away as a family which we remember fondly. David and I were brought up to know right from wrong, although we might not with the innocence of youth have always chosen right. David was a good brother, there when I needed him and absent when I didn't. I hope that he felt the same way about me. He was, in the right mood, the life and soul of the party and on other times the most stubborn irritating pain in the ass. He would probably say the same about me.

“After leaving school he worked with the Royal Mail before joining the RAF as an aircraft engineer. He married his childhood sweetheart Louise and in the due process of time had a wee lass Bethany. He was — and no doubt wherever he is — exceptionally proud of Bethany. “David served with the UN in the Balkans, helping people in real need. There are many accolades from people in that region that David helped. He helped whoever needed help, regardless of race, creed or religion. During this time David began to decide that humanitarian work was the field he wanted to work in. “David left the RAF and was employed by Scotrail. As with every job, David entered into it with enthusiasm. David met and married his second wife Dragana and they have a four year old daughter Athea. “David was most alive and enthusiastic in his humanitarian roles. His joy and anticipation for the work he went to do in Syria is for myself and family the most important element of this whole sad affair.

“He was and is loved by all his family and will be missed terribly.”

RIP.

Thank you, Serenity.

And the moral is...

...if you are non-Middle Eastern, stay the 'f' away from the Middle East...no matter how innocent your intentions.

It's as if they are suicidal masochists and only understand brutality they carry out or directed against them.

The general thought process is the direct opposite - claims are being made that these executions are to entice the west back into the ME. I find it amusing how some think that ignoring or retreating away from these people will somehow calm them and conversely, engaging them creates more terrorists.

My point was don't go snooping around the M.E. alone...or you might lose your head.

And I happen to think the U.S. should mind it's own business and stay away from the M.E..

And yet ISIS have also murdered thousands of middle eastern civilians and continue to do so DA60.

David Haines knew the risks involved when he went there. He had a passion for humanitarian work and he chose to undertake that work to try and assist the ordinary civilians there. Unfortunately that cost him his life. That's also a risk he was clearly prepared to take.

I hope that Haines's beheading serves to turn world opinion even more strongly against ISIS.
