Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has been indicted in Texas for "reckless or negligent injury to a child," according to the Fox affiliate in Houston. The indictment was made in Montgomery County.

Child Protective Services confirms to TMZ that they are working on a case involving Peterson and an 11-year-old boy.

More from TMZ: "Sources connected to Peterson tell us (that) the alleged victim is a male child from Minnesota who was visiting (Peterson) back in May at the running back's Texas home. We're told the child returned home to his mother in Minnesota who noticed injuries and took the child to a doctor. A short time later, the doctor contacted authorities in Texas to report Peterson."

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports that Peterson's arrest stems from disciplining his son with a switch.

Here we go again....the NFL is sure having a rough week.

As much as I would never do this to my child, I would think if there's one state this would be legal, it would be Texas. Gold digging? Hard to say.

The gold digging angle wouldn't surprise me given the attention the NFL has been getting lately. Perhaps the mother has seen all of this Ray Rice business and saw it as an opportunity to cash in. Like you said, it's hard to say at this point.

Gold digging? The doc reported it. The doc is trying to score some kickback? C'mon.

Now the NFL must decide what sanctions are appropriate for child abuse or a first and subsequent offense. That NFL personnel policy manual must be getting to be quite a tome. ;)

One would think they already have policies for actions resulting from criminal conviction.

And how the hell can Greg Hardy of Carolina be suiting up to play after his CONVICTION? The stuff he did sounds far worse than one KO punch.

There is not yet any criminal conviction in this case. It appears that you are wrong given the hoopla over Ray Rice recently.

Times have definitely changed. Getting a whuppin with a 'switch' wouldnt have registered a complaint not to long ago.

Rice was convicted of what?

That.....is actually quite a bit worse than I had expected. I definitely retract my suspicion of gold digging after seeing those pictures.

Gold digging doesn't work anyway because the doctor reported it, not the mother.

None of the NFL's business (yes, I realize contractually it is, but it should not be).

This is between Peterson, the boy, his family and the police...at least until Peterson is convicted (if he ever is).

And it is innocent until proven guilty.

Peterson has an iffy past but it is possible the boy's parents are simply con artist's looking for a lawsuit settlement.

The bottom line...let the court's figure this out.

Yeah these look painful.

Because the teams and players are so closely intertwined, the teams all have morality clauses. Thats what happens when you do a job that requires you to wear your employers label. Its no different than if a law enforcement agent were to be found guilty of abuse. It would impact the public face and trust of the company. They have the absolute right to protect their name and brand.

I personally think the Eagles handled the Vick situation very well. I think the Ravens probably should handled the Rice situation MUCH differently.

If he plays, the boos will reign. Lucky for him it's in MN.

What's up with these black millionaire NFL athletes beating on their family members?

Dont take this the wrong way, but what are the odds that you might do something that (justifiably or not) ends up with you spending a significant time in prison anytime soon, and is there any way we can hasten that along?

Just like with Rice, one must ask... HAVE YOU SEEN THE EVIDENCE?!

Peterson apologized for doing it.
