Football team forced to remove crosses from helmets

But not on their football helmets. Those crosses are gone.

only because the school didn't want to deal with a frivilous lawsuit from some self indulged group of weenies that are offended by something they say never happened and doesn't exist.

This is getting crazy with the removing of crosses everywhere. What's next? You know when Obama speaks, and there are crosses there, they are covered. This country was founded on Judo/Christian values. It's sick out there and it's getting sicker.

Why not? Why do you care if they put crosses on their helmet? How are you hurt in any way?

And the right-wing evangelicals lost another battle.

I really thought you were smart enough to get my point. Race had nothing to do with my post other than to suggest that things have changed for the better in 51 years. That was all. Surely you are capable of understanding that?

I'm capable of understanding lots of things and I'm fully aware that one of the time honored traditions of the American left is to trot out race and racism at every opportunity in an attempt to intimidate speech.

I'll take you at your word if you're willing to contend that nothing other than racial bathroom signs has changed in 50 years in America. I'll consider it idiotic, but I'll take your word it's what you believe.

Gee John, I guess I gave you way too much credit.

The concept of government property should be easier for a Canadian to grasp one would think.

Another trick of those on the left losing an argument - trot out the xenophobic insult. Two for two - wanna try for three?

Cough, cough, gay marriage, cough, cough.

What does that have to do with me? Oh right, you enjoy making stuff up about people. You know, libel is a crime. Perhaps should stop telling lies about people?

Honestly you cry race card where none existed and now this? You're not having a good day.

It was an analogy. Use your noodle. I know you can do it. Take your time.

The real funny part of his comment is that he thinks it being government property makes it so the students can't put crosses on the helmet. He should perhaps review the supreme court ruling that made a very clear distinction between the actions of the state and the actions of students. Top Cat the libel master has no idea what he is talking about.

And the right-wing evangelicals lost another battle.

Ah, yes, a couple of dozen university men playing football wanting to honor their former team mates and colleagues by putting a small cross on their helmets are actually right-wing evangelicals at war.

Some Americans really need to get over their self-obsession and get lives not devoted to finding offense around every corner and a court case to promote and reward themselves for being clever.

Helmet is owned by the state. Try again.

Lol. So what? Review the law. There is no legal standing to force the students to remove the crosses.

yet teachers can have islam day and hindu day and etc etc etc ... and nothing is said or done unless parents speak up. no lawsuits no threats.
mention Christ or God and they come out of the wood work.

Where has a public school had "Islam day" and "Hindu day"?

The school coaches were part of the decision to use the stickers. This is not just the players idea.
While in theory that might be up to a court to decide, I don't see any indication that this was a requirement, compulsion or order.

I can see why someone might get upset, but at least as far as I can tell, it's protected speech.

Or not

Supposedly, he told the kids that if they smoked marijuana, they were going to go to hell. That's not appropriate in a public classroom setting.

In addition, he did not face any official sanctions; he just felt like the school wasn't backing him up (whatever that means).

No, it wasn't. The other day you called me a wife beater without any evidence, and today you said that crap. Claiming people are wife beaters when they are not actually has gotten people in trouble with the law, so watch yourself.

And? No one could think that giveing him the funeral he wanted was government endorsed religion. Just like crosses or stars of David etc are fine on headstones.

Precisely. That's why these players choosing to wear the crosses were not at odds with the 1st.
