Re: Ted Cruz Gets Boos From Christians by Praising Israel
I'm not much of a Ted Cruz fan... He's far too religious in my opinion, to be a US Senator. A congressman, sure, but anything higher up than that, nope.
I'm not a Christian, but I have great respect for those who are. I believe that having someone in high office who's a Christian or a religious person in general, is an asset rather than a liability. When it comes to mixing religion and political office for senators, VP's, presidents, or cabinet members, too much religion can potentially be disastrous. Ted Cruz is someone I consider too religious to be elected to high office. He's someone that I feel has the potential to put serving his faith ahead of serving the nation, and that's something that can't be allowed to happen.
Now with that said, what Ted Cruz did and said on that stage made me stand up and applaud the man. When those anti-Semitic, middle eastern bigots started spewing their hatred, Cruz could have done what 99% of the opportunistic political weasels we have in Washington would have done, and tried to placate them, not ruffle any feathers, and played politician, but that's not what Cruz did. Without hesitation, he immediately stood up for what was right, by flat out refusing to either accept or ignore the hatred they were spewing, calling those idiots as well as the entire organization to task for their hate, and without blinking an eye, cut his ties with them and walked off that stage.
That was one of the finest examples of principled behavior by a politician that I've seen in recent memory, and even though I would never support the man for president, he's definitely earned my respect as a human being. I just wish we had a few more politicians in Washington who stood on real principals, rather than the phony, self serving politically crafted principals that make me want to puke every time I hear them uttered.
