Ted Cruz Gets Boos From Christians by Praising Israel

Senator Ted Cruz abruptly walked off stage at a gala for Middle Eastern Christians after he was booed for urging the audience to stand behind Israel and Jews.

The Texas Republican, a potential 2016 presidential candidate, was the keynote speaker in Washington at the inaugural conference of a nonprofit group called In Defense of Christians.

“Christians have no greater ally than Israel,” Cruz said, prompting a first round of jeering, according to The Daily Caller. He left the stage a short time later, telling the audience “if you will not stand with Israel and the Jews, I will not stand with you. Good night and God bless.”

I find this a quite interesting turn of events, since evangelical Christians seem to form the backbone of the right wing base and as a backbone of the Tea Party (an even righter wing base, of which Cruz has previously been a darling). A beef with Israel seems quite out of character for them... in fact, nearly blasphemous.

The event organizers brushed the booing off on "a few politically motivated opportunists" but that really doesn't jibe with Cruz walking out.

That's weird. Evangelicals are usually among Israeli's strongest supporters, in my experience.

Maybe they are sick of spending money on America's biggest welfare recipient.

In one sense, not surprising--TX is full of serial constipators that the nation woefully must tolerate (though one can't help but feel tremendous sympathy for those who must sit next to them on Capitol Hill).

But cruz's mental flatulence probably makes the record books for someone who's been in Washington as little time as he has.

Ah. I see there are problems in Raptured paradise. Interesting.

Re: Ted Cruz Gets Boos From Christians by Praising Israel

Ted was keynote speaker for those other Christians...Middle Eastern Christians.Ted brought boo when he claimed Israel is the best ally Christians have.

He told the group when the began to turn..If they did not support Israel, they did not support America.

WOW, this from someone not even born in America...Already giving American litmus tests. What balls.

I'd boo him off the stage too. He was being a general hack and accusing any Christian that didn't unequivocally support the state of Israel or it's excessive funding of being a "fake." That warrants a few "boos" in my opinion. It's also very telling that he stormed off the stage at the first sign of opposition from the audience. I guess he prefers only to speak to audiences that fawn over him.

Firstly, there's nothing about the Tea Party that is remotely evangelical Christian even though there may be, as in every political party or movement evangelical Christians.

Secondly, it is quite possible that Middle Eastern Christians believe, for valid reasons, that some or much of their problems in the Middle East is related to Israel and Israeli actions - it may be misguided, but it's not unreasonable.

As such, suggesting that Middle Eastern Christians embrace what many may consider a contributing factor to their concerns might be viewed as tone deaf and ignorant of their position.

Re: Ted Cruz Gets Boos From Christians by Praising Israel

I don't think there was any indication the crowd was reacting out of hatred to israel. He went straight to the subject of israel when it only had a vague relevance and seemed to be ignoring the other minorities facing persecution in the region. Also, bone headed stuff like the state of Syria supporting ISIS? It just reeked of not having a clue.

Re: Ted Cruz Gets Boos From Christians by Praising Israel

What a jackass. He deserved much more than the audience gave him. The worst part is when that idiot came out and told the crowd to be respectful after Cruz went out of his way to be as disrespectful as possible to the crowd.

Its a good trend that Israel has been loosing support.

Given the list of speakers at that Conference its no surprise that a substantial portion if the audience may embrace anti-Semitism.

And what does a crowd of MIDDLE EASTERN CHRISTIANS have to do with the American Tea Party movement ?

Huh ?

How is that a " good trend " ??

All true Christians love our Jewish brothers.

A few minutes of research would indicate that you are wrong, but since it is mostly off topic I'll just let it slide.

In retrospect it seems Cruz used this event as a campaign stop to gin up support amongst his base (i.e., he didn't give a damn about the convention or its goals or Middle Eastern Christians, but just used them for political gain). Now that's the Cruz we all know and love ;)

Re: Ted Cruz Gets Boos From Christians by Praising Israel

I'm not sure what motivates this thread more: hatred for The Tea Party, or hatred of Israel.

How about none of the above?

Re: Ted Cruz Gets Boos From Christians by Praising Israel

That's impossible. Want to try again?

Want to explain how that's impossible?

Re: Ted Cruz Gets Boos From Christians by Praising Israel

That's weird. Evangelicals are usually among Israeli's strongest supporters, in my experience.

The gathering was to discuss the plight of Christians in the Middle East and therefor had a fairly large contingent of Christians of Middle Eastern origins.

Or just a strong dislike for Ted Cruz. The audience was respectful until he started accusing them of being un-American if they didn't agree with him on Israel. In other words, the sleaze ball was accusing the audience of anti-Semitism to shut them up. But it just made them angrier , instead. Can't say I really blame them. There's little more insulting than a foreigner lecturing to real Americans that they aren't real Americans unless they put their loyalty for another country over their own.

Of course there is never anything wrong with frightened children booing and behaving like orangutangs, it's the fault of the speaker for saying **** they disagree with.

Look. Cruz's social policies are aberrant, middle ages crap the world has left behind. I am thankful his parents removed him from my country lest he find another mad man to agree with him. I abhor Christians who warp themselves in a flag and claim it's the Cross.

But I know enough about Mr. Cruz that he too supports the concept of "I may not agree with what you say, but will defend to my death your right to say it." That is allegedly the core of what is America, one of the foundations of freedom.

But here we are branding this guy, putting him down because he was denied that right to speak his mind. FFS, whenever In hear these grunts bring God into the equation I want to vomit. But the man is a senator, duly elected, who represents a significant following in America, he DID NOT deserve to be disrespected so rudely because his views happen to be different to these clown who claim to understand what is democracy and the need for dissenting opinions.

Shame. Freedom has been dealt yet another blow.

Cruz wasn't invited there to stump for AIPAC and accuse people of hating Jews and America. Don't complain about getting booted from a private party after insulting the host.

Name one popular Tea Partier that isn't a social conservative evangelical nut.

I didn't see where he was "denied" anything. He spoke his mind, a few in the audience let him know they disagreed. He wasn't shouted down or unable to continue speaking. He just decided that unless he had the support of 100% of the audience, he wasn't going to continue. His choice, but we shouldn't confuse that with him being denied the opportunity TO speak.

And I find it insulting when pro-Israel speakers equate support for the current administration in Israel and their policies with support for Jews. Heck, lots of Jews in Israel don't support the current administration or its policies. Opposing Israeli policies says really nothing at all about whether a person is anti-Semitic. Same way lots of Americans can't stand Obama - are people opposed to Americans if they oppose Obama or some action by the Obama administration? Do Obama haters hate America?
