Cuba estimates total damage of U.S. embargo at $116.8 billion

End the ridiculous embargo.

There is no reason for it. End it. What could we possibly gain from a continued Embargo on a small island country that is directly off our shores?

We need to end the stupid Cuban embargo... like now.

"the Americans have lost nearly all international support for the embargo since the collapse of the Soviet Union. No other nation besides the United States has an economic embargo against Cuba."

Cuba estimates total damage of U.S. embargo at $116.8 billion

Hmmm... what was our total damage? I would end it, but only if the Castros and the communist government are gone. In fact, we should just take a page out of Putin's book and take it over. So, let's storm the place, capture (read:kill) the commie leaders, free the oppressed people, and make Cuba a territory of the USA. Our big corporations could crank up that economy and start creating jobs like crazy.

Cuban Embargo = Asinine US Policy

End it. Should have been ended decades ago.

So it's ok to trade with Dictators in Saudi Arabia, China, and other oppressive nations but not ok to deal with Cuba? Where in the world does that make sense?

If the embargo had never happened all it would mean is that the Castros would be $116 billion richer. Engaging in free trade with a brutal communist dictatorship is not the principled position. THe thought that the Cuban people would have benefited at all from the arrangement is pure fantasy.

Did they threaten us with nukes right off our shores? I think not.

The support of the Cuban embargo is not a default support for open trade with China and Saudi Arabia. Most people hate that so much US manufacturing was lost to China and even more want to be rid of Saudi oil dependency.

I think the US should tie all trade agreements to a baseline human rights agreement with those who wish to do business in the US.

I think of the Cuban embargo like keeping Pete Rose out of the Hall of Fame. Both issues will be resolved when the main players die.

Who is the ONLY country on the planet to ever actually USE nukes on a human population?

What country, in the last 100 years, has Cuba: invaded, declared war upon, set up military presence in, or flown drones over and launched missiles from said drones to kill people when no declaration of war was ever issued?

So realistically, all things considered, who should be embargo'd based on historical evidence????

Thank God, only us. But in a good way. Not that is has anything to do with the discussion.

You are just listing things that are irrelevant to the situation. Who cares?

What's irrelevant, and pathetically childish, is any reason for the USofA to still have an embargo on Cuba.

This almost sounds like you've never been to Cuba or for that matter met any Cubans still living in Cuba. Wait, it's the exact stupid rhetoric that gave us the current situation in Iraq. It's almost as if the people that come up with such ridiculous plans don't know anything about the people living in these countries. What you're suggesting is never going to happen.

Source: I'm an American who goes to Cuba regularly and is married to a Cuban.

Rule breaker. ^^

That's called tongue-in-cheek, for those that don't get it.

Wow! Fortunately, you really don't need to go there for this.

when was that done? Oh yeah DECADES ago. time to move on.

BTW we have dealings with a country that MOST of the 9/11 hijackers come from AND has human rights violations. Seems you are quite ok with that.

I don't disagree with what you siad, however, we aren't doing that so there is no need for a Cuban Embargo. Now, if the government decides to go your route, I would support that, but they aren't.

They haven't changed, still the same communist regime right off our shores. Still with the iron fisted government rule, oppressing the people. What have they done that should have us consider lifting the embargo?

If Cuba had oil, there wouldn't be an embargo.

With that said...I am dying for a Cuban sandwich all of a sudden. Delicious.

So we should embargo all countries who have a iron fisted government and oppress the people? If so, I think we should embargo China rather than Cuba. They have a billion oppressed people, where Cuba is a small island. Why should we only embargo the little guys?

The U.S. can embargo anybody it wants. The government often embargoes its enemies. Iran and N Korea are other examples.

Cuba is NOT an enemy.

The USofA is acting the childish and immature fool.
