Poll: 71 percent say keep Redskin

Who cares?

People being offended or not is irrelevant!

Racial stereotyping is bad for society - end of story.
But it's not illegal and until it is, the story goes on.

Beyond that, I don't think the name stereotypes anyone.

The name itself doesn't necessarily stereotype Native Americans, in and of itself, but THE DEPICTION DOES.

No one can be this clueless. Seriously? You don't understand that?

Several politicians? That's inaccurate. 50 Dumbo Senators (including Senile Harry) took the time to create and sign a letter demanding the name be changed.

True, but the moron Reid opined on the Senate floor about it. He's an ass.

Really? In what way?

I got news for you, even after something is illegal the story still goes on.

Native Americans are portrayed as warriors, warmongers even. Not every NA was nor is a warrior or warmonger. Presenting the entire race as such is a disservice to all those that do not fit the stereotype.

It's no different than having the "Washington White People" and the mascot/emblem/etc being a warmonger. Of course, then you'd be all "Hey! Not all white people are warmongers!"

Doesn't matter what any majority says.

If Native Americans themselves want the name changed, it should be changed.

If they don't, then I don't care.

The time has long passed for anyone to object to their team name... It's become tradition and as much as the left hates tradition, most American's obviously don't agree.

Remember, America is not a place where people have the right NOT to be offended...

Offense has nothing to do with the objection. Only stupid people think offense is the deciding factor. Smart people understand that racial stereotypes are bad for society.

The kindest description of that claim is that it's ridiculous. Raiders? Saints? Vikings? Cowboys? Buccaneers? At the college level the pool of names is even deeper.

Raiders, Saints, Vikings, Cowboys and Buccaneers are not races.

Also remember that racial slurs have no place in a civil society.

Hey, maybe there isn't actually a bunch of stupid people out there... they're regular people just trying to convince us they're well-endowed.

Neither are Redskins.

Oh please. This is a pathetic attempt to cover for your position's idiocy. You're equating stereotyping a job with stereotyping a race.

They were called the "Redlegs"

1. I was joking; the Reds aren't and never were named after communists.

2. The team name was changed from Reds to Redlegs in 1954, in direct response to the Red Scare. The were the Red Stockings back in the 1880s, then the Reds until 1954. They changed back to Reds in 1960.

No. There's no stereotype in any sense. The Redskins logo is an historical depiction no different from many others.

False.

The origins of the modern Cincinnati Reds can be traced to the expulsion of an earlier team bearing that name...

Cincinnati's expulsion from the National League incensed Cincinnati Enquirer sports editor O. P. Caylor, who made two attempts to form a new league on behalf of the receivers for the now bankrupt Reds franchise. When these attempts failed, he formed a new independent ballclub known as the Red Stockings in the Spring of 1881, and brought the team to St. Louis for a weekend exhibition. The Reds' first game was a 12–3 victory over the St. Louis club...

The Cincinnati Red Stockings left the American Association on November 14, 1889 and joined the National League along with the Brooklyn Bridegrooms after a dispute with St. Louis Browns owner Chris Von Der Ahe over the selection of a new league president.

Where do you get that racist BS? Who told you so?

Some of us have lots of swinging beef.

Neither are Redskins.

Exactly...... I've never even heard of Native Americans called Redskins before and I live in Indian country.

I suppose if and when they were called redskins it had to do with their clothing and not their race.

Either way - the Natives up here in Illinois and Wisconsin have tax-free casinos so they're doing pretty well, and are very nice people when you hit their reservations..

I can tell you this much they love the Chicago Blackhawks jersey and are hardly offended by it...
