Never claimed to be a lawyer. But then...I HAVE worked in prison systems and know for a fact there is a whole lot of this stuff goes on and lawsuits are not a standard result. So...you might be promoting your version of ideal vs what is.

Keeping prisoners in solitary confinement is torture, causes insanity (often permanent) and bad behavior, and does not prevent re-offending after release.

Chances are very good that the guards intentionally put the prisoner in a cell with a violent prisoner known to be a rapist.

Yes, I know. But all the people in prison are not child rapists (I don't know why this has to be explained). So overall prison crowding isn't just because we're only throwing child rapists into prison, but also other folk who have not committed violent crime. The prison overcrowding on aggregate is one of the major contributors to the dangers in prison because it becomes hard to keep and control such large numbers. Thus, reducing the prison population is a way through which we can help to secure the well being of our prisoners who are legitimately in prison.

This is not a vacuum problem, this is not an isolated case; this is an aggregate problem with our prison system in general. You cannot treat this as singular.

No...this IS an isolated case. You cant simply trot out prison overcrowding as an argument if it isnt applicable. There is NO indication that ANYTHING beyond one inmate sexually assaulting another inmate.

Agreed, it only takes two to tango, the prison doesn't have to be overcrowded to have two people in a cell.

Believe me...I learned to build alliances quickly and who to build them with. Going into sessions armed with nothing more than a panic button...its...humbling. I talked to several inmates that vowed that **** would never happen to them. After getting knocked out, they usually were woken up so they could 'enjoy' the full experience.

The only place I ever worked where people got rooms to themselves were the juvenile sex offender units. Still wasnt a safe place.

That isn't a suggestion. What's the suggestion?

Chances are good that prisons put violent criminals with each other. They probably aren't going to put the 74 year old who cheated on his taxes in with a guy who killed 4 people.

No, the statistics say this is an aggregate problem, not that it's an isolated case. It's not that this dude is the only dude getting raped in prison; but rather that there is a culture of it and is widespread.

Treating this in vacuum is stupid and will not allow true solution to be discovered.

We're talking about uncivilized people--the inmates. It isn't rocket science; when you put animals in a confined area, bad things will happen. Anyone that doesn't like being in prison should stay out of prison.

We're the ones who put them into prison, we are advanced and civil and responsible for their well being. Anything else is just ape behavior.

IMO, the inmates should have the **** kicked out of them daily. That would control their behavior.

They put themselves in prison with their actions.

What suggestion do you have to avoid cell mates raping each other?
 
There's a little bit of karmatic (?) justice here, but disgust for the man aside it's obviously not ok that rapes happen to anyone in prison.
