Obama's vacations and golf outings, by the numbers

Just how many vacation has Obama taken since January 2009?

How does he compare to his two-term predecessor, George W. Bush?

Everyone needs to take a break from time to time, eh?

Even if he's the president of the USA, who's always on the job, no matter where he is 24/7.

The whiners seem to think Obama is the only prez in history who doesn't have a direct link to critical departments of gubbermint, and that those departments have no way of contacting him, since the secret service took Barry's Blackberry away from him.

That idea makes him look even more negligent. All that access and he still cant get any work done. THat means he is CHOOSING to be lazy.

What do people think he should be doing? ordering the dropping of bombs somewhere on the planet, taking out terrorist with drones, he's done that.

If possible, congress should be legislating/writing bills that make sense to submit for signature, instead, they're wasting time and taxpayer money trying to sue and impeach Obama.

Read up. His job is to enforce the laws that congress passes. To command the military, to deal with foreign relations, to make sure everyone in the executive branch is doing their job. He has a million bureaucrats to help him and he still cant get it done. Whats going on at the border, the IRS, the VA, Afghanistan, the NSA to name a few? When asked he says I dont know, I heard about it in the paper.

Everyone needs a vacation, including the President.

I had to cut vacations short twice due to crises of various sorts. It sucked, but it goes with the territory.

I didn't like when the left criticized Bush after being led by the noses by Michael Moore, stating repeatedly that there is no such thing as a vacation for a President. It doesn't happen.

That said, I think the optics would have been better for Obama if he cut this one short and returned home to the WH. I remember people melting down like the Wicked Witch because Bush didn't jump up in the room of kids on 9/11, screaming and running to do something. Those minutes he sat in the chair caused more meltdowns than you can imagine. If Bush was supposed to react in a nanosecond, the same standard should be applied to Obama. At the same time, the people who obsess about Obama's golfing need to generally speaking cut him some slack. If the world is in relative calm, there is nothing wrong with him swinging some clubs. If the world is in chaos, as is the case today, he would be wise to get his priorities in line.

And right now, with Congress out of session, there is quite literally very little he can do. Anything Obama could do right now, he'd have to do by executive order, and we know how much the righties love that.

I think we've hit Peak Wingnut, where literally NOTHING Obama does could possibly make them happy, short of his resignation.

I get the feeling that you guys dont actually know what the President does, that you think he just passes laws with congress. When the fact is, he is the final executive of 20 different departments involved in almost every area of your life, and how they spend 3.5 trillion dollars. He has almost sole power over the running the military. He is responsible for enforcing 51 titles of US code, treaties, and millions of regulations within the departments.

There is quite literally a million things he can do.

When I said "nothing he can do," I should have been more clear that I meant in conjunction with Congress, as the post I quoted alluded to.

As far as the stuff you listed, he's still doing it, even when he's on vacation, just like every other president.

Show me some evidence.

You mean while he's playing golf all day, he's still doing it, playing golf.

Yes, all Obama does is play golf, dawn to dusk, every single day.

You guys are making fools of yourselves.

Maybe you can tell me what else he does, because I sure don't see it.

Wrong. They'd criticize him for cutting and running.

You are right in your first statement.

The anti-Obama crowd has taken the virulent hatred that the anti-Bush crowd had to a completely new level.

You're right, and some of it is deserved. I wasn't on DP when Bush was president, but I can imagine how bad it was from the left. It comes with the territory. And yeah, Obama's pretty bad. I'm the last person who's really going to say he's anything better than slightly-below-mediocre.

That said, I've seen attacks (both here and on forums I previously frequented) on Obama (and his wife, who really hasn't done anything to hurt anyone in any appreciable way) that are just beyond the pale.

Are you forgetting about the "scrumptious delicacy glazed with a huge dollop" that she so cruelly snatched from the hands of children?

*snicker*

I'm pretty sure Obama has played more golf this year than Tiger Woods.

If that's true, then George Bush played more golf than Arnold Palmer. LOL.

Too many vacations?

They don't take enough vacations.

If GW Bush and Obama has taken EVERY, SINGLE DAY they were/are in office on vacation...America would probably be much better off.

I do not think a president is ever truly on vacation, that is why it is good that he has to leave office after 8 years because I think it is a very taxing job with little real relaxation possible.

The same was true for George W. Bush and will be true for the person who will be president after Barack Obama.
