Reports: Legendary actress Lauren Bacall has died at 89

Legendary film star Lauren Bacall has died, reports Variety and The Hollywood Reporter. She was 89. Both outlets are reporting she died of a suspected stroke Tuesday morning at her New York home.

Known for her husky voice and sizzling looks, Bacall started out as a model and then broke out as a leading lady opposite Humphrey Bogart in her first film, 1944's To Have and Have Not. The two had a whirlwind romance and wed the following year, and a son and daughter soon followed -- as did more on-screen pairings: The Big Sleep (1946), Dark Passage (1947), and Key Largo (1948). They remained married until Bogart's death from throat cancer in 1957.

Bacall's other notable films include 1950's Young Man With a Horn and 1953's How To Marry A Millionaire, in which she starred alongside Betty Grable and Marilyn Monroe.

She also experienced success on stage, starring on Broadway in Goodbye, Charlie (1959) and Cactus Flower (1965), and won Tony Awards for her performances in Applause (1970) and Woman of the Year (1981).

To Have and Have Not was fantastic, as was Key Largo.

This is so sad......another great one gone.....most young people don't know who she is. I was a teenager and she was my first love...She was popular in the forties and fifties.

God bless her and may she rest in peace.

Bummer.

That woman damned sure knew how to smoke a cigarette!! Come to think of it, she also encouraged me to learn how to whistle.

When I was young, I thought she was the ideal of physical beauty in a woman.

Great scene with Bogart but you will probably have to explain it to a lot of our younger folks.

Rest in peace.

She was awesome. I'm glad she lived a long full life.

That was one beautiful woman. She lived a full life. We should all be so lucky!

She's back together with Bogey... it can't be all bad.

She was all class and they don't make 'em like that anymore. RIP.

Those days when every movie personality smoked cigarettes seem so long ago! We know now that it's not healthy, but it sure seemed soooo sophisticated and worldly back then :naughty: and most kids did sneak a smoke when they dared to try!

RIP Lauren Bacall, and condolences to her family and friends. She was a star!

Greetings, Lutherf. :2wave: Our internet was out for hours areawide today, and it's finally working again! Yippee!

I knew little of her outside of Bogey and her films.

But then I saw an interview with Charlie Rose and I was immensely impressed.

She seemed like a very impressive woman that led a very interesting life.

Actress Lauren Bacall dies at 89: Bogart Estate | Reuters

(Reuters) - Lauren Bacall, the sultry actress with the heavy-lidded eyes and husky voice who captured Humphrey Bogart's heart both on and off the movie screen, died on Tuesday at the age of 89.
"With deep sorrow, yet with great gratitude for her amazing life, we confirm the passing of Lauren Bacall," the estate of the Bogart family said on a verified Twitter account.
Bacall was married to Bogart from 1945 until his death in 1957. They had two children.
The public knew her as Lauren, the screen name hung on her by director Howard Hawks, while friends used her given name, Betty. Bogart simply called her "Baby" in a love story that ended prematurely with his cancer death in 1957.

Two greats in two days. Not a good way to start the week.

At least she got a long life.

Robin could have had one. Perhaps a better way to say it is, "At least one chose to have a long life."

Evenso, not a great week. Lauren was really talented and well loved in her day.

Bacall had an incredibly deep and sexy voice for a woman. I dont know why but it always turned me on.

A very classy lady .
Although I never did meet her mom I went to Art School in Boston with her daughter Leslie in 1972.
