[RIP]Robin Williams Dead at 63 [W:194:238]

Re: [RIP]Robin Williams Dead at 63 [W:194]

The details officials indicated he used a belt and had tried to cut his wrists with a pocket knife. A currently addicted druggie would've just overdosed.

That's what I heard on the news, and they had experts who said exactly that - a drug addict would simply overdose, not attempt to cut his wrists and not hang himself from a bedroom door. Williams demons had to be related to depression.

Re: [RIP]Robin Williams Dead at 63 [W:194]

Said he commited suicide because of his leftist world views..

Sounds like something he would say. Apparently Limpdong needs some attention. Ratings must be down. Honestly, what a hate monger he is.

Thing about it is, I bet it pissed off a lot of his listeners. Williams was loved by lefties and righties. Look no further than this thread. You can't deny genius. It doesn't take a political lean to recognize talent. And besides, Williams was one of the good guys. He gave till it hurt.

It's very difficult being as hyper a person as he was in this society, even if you're wildly adored (by millions who don't really know you) and wealthy enough to "get help". I'm not as far as he is, but even still, it's a struggle. For a 6 minute bit on a talk show, RW was adorable and we all loved him. That's how people that have to deal with me for only 10-30minutes think of me, "delightful". After that, I'm still being me, but everyone around is showing signs of tiring. They tell me it's like being around a live wire for too long, I exhaust them. So if I do that, RW is like me on steroids,.... his personal relationships may not have been as we all imagine they'd be with someone so funny and entertaining as he was.

I know that I am a jerk... but kids are getting beheaded by ISIS, not to mention HAMAS, the kidnapped girls by Boka Raham, homeless people... forgive me if I don't give a **** (much less a huge thread) about Williams. Great "actor". Good. He made me laugh. Cool

Obviously other people do care. Why you felt the need to share is beyond me.

There's always gotta be one.

One can simultaneously be concerned about other world events AND take the time to mourn a well-liked, well-respected artist like Robin Williams.

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

Um, no offense, but how could your youngest son have been one of your best friends in high school? The math doesn't quite work. ;)

Um no offense, but can you not understand the written word? ;)

that's not being a jerk, it's just "other focused"

people grieve over Robin Williams because he is perceived as a member of their tribe and he touched their lives in a measurable way (made them laugh, made them cry, made them reflect etc)

some kid half way around the world, is not perceived as a tribe member and their suffering and death is for the most part, not witnessed...it is an unknown

it's the way tribes have worked from the beginning of time, few worry about a death "over there, amongst them"

To put some perspective back into the world...

There's always gotta be one.

Hopefully more than one will emerge...

Men can't multi-task...

The "tribe"? What the hell? I think that you are trying a little too hard at playing psychologist. ;)

trying? ;)

maybe you need to read a bit more on human behaviour and it's breakdown...;)

maybe I should have just gone with your first sentence...you know what they say...from an analytical standpoint...when someone tells you they are something, believe them...

sorry, my mistake..it won't happen twice.

Clinical depression definitely works like a downward spiral in that sense. Those who do come back from it always seem to have other people close to them who believe in them, support them emotionally, and help them in other ways.

Speaking only for myself, my own experience was that I had to come back on my own, as I didn't have friends or family who had been in that boat.

Depression can eat you up. Despair is very hard to overcome.

Re: [RIP]Robin Williams Dead at 63 [W:194]

Then start your own thread.

More will engage in the world... not here. I made a post. You are responding to it.
My intent was to make a post and not debate so I don't need to make a new thread.

Try reading what I said for perspective about "tribe"... and I am a "jerk" by posting that post not that it actually was a jerk thing to do... slang, Mr. Psych Job.

But you go ahead and fall prey to your own delusion if you like... fine by me.

Then you are a truly strong person....I have two in my immediate family (wife, and daughter) that suffered from bi polar...It is truly utter hell they go through.

I am saddened that Williams went through this, and only saw this solution as the only way...

We in this country don't do well with mental health, the government continually cuts funding, and people often fall through the cracks...We need to take mental health as serious as any other fatal disease.

Well, to be honest, I don't know if more funding could actually fix the problem. My solution wasn't psychotherapeutic drugs, and it took me years to resolve, and much pain and grief. Psych is still one of the most misunderstood fields in medicine, and what I consider effective treatment is very expensive. I'm not one who thinks that slapping a bandaid on it can really work. It takes more time, patience, and dedication than most people have, and if you get professional treatment in the form of effective and good therapy (which I believe is important), it is prohibitively expensive. I am just fortunate in that I was able to eventually deal with as as well as I do.

Well, he did manage to do one thing that is truly remarkable. He gave us a straight-to-video Disney sequel that didn't suck.

If only he used his miraculous powers to further the cause of world peace.

Much respect...And you are correct...Ongoing therapy is lifetime.

Try reading comprehension.

The world has lost a great talent. My heart goes out to his family, friends and colleagues. My adopted brother and bio sister committed suicide and I know that while his pain his over, that of his loved ones is just beginning. :(

So sorry to hear this, Scrab. <hug>
