[RIP]Robin Williams Dead at 63 [W:194:238]

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

He was a brilliant comedian, the best ever in my opinion, and an incredibly diverse actor. I can't really add to this thread, other than to say that his demons won, and my heart is broken. :(

Nobody could equal him when it came to his comedy, and quick wit/ ability to think on his feet. Imo, he is the best of my lifetime.

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

Good Will Hanging.

If you're gonna tell a joke then tell a good one. We don't need any more people killing themselves today.

I used to get many 3am calls from my sister. (Severe Bipolar) She was tormented with suicidal thoughts and attempted among other things a butcher knife to the neck and tried to climb out of the car while we were going 65 on the freeway.

You are right about irrational thinking. Those delusional thoughts are very real for someone that's afflicted. Managing her medication was a daily struggle. The side effects often cause the patient to stop taking them. Then all bets are off.

I believe the most important thing the world can learn from this tragedy is that depression (whether part of bipolar disorder or not) is a medical problem. Those who commit suicide don't kill themselves: their medical condition kills them.

Motivation to commit suicide doesn't come from sadness; it's a feeling of desperation. The physical and mental hell of depression makes people want to escape it by any means possible. As was mentioned earlier in this thread, it's a difficult thing for someone who hasn't been clinically depressed in the past to understand.

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

Of course I wouldn't stomp you. I will, however, say that I do understand where suicidal people are, mentally and emotionally. It makes no sense to the rational mind, which is why it is not easily understood.

I also understand that suicidal people are ill. I wasn't saying that suicide makes no sense to me. I was saying that I can't help but be somewhat judgmental about it because of my personal experience.

You know what makes it even more atrocious to me that people are so cruel towards the suicidal?

Sometimes it's exactly as you said. An unbearable pain of the mind -- we are less judgmental towards people who feel unbearable pain of the body and want to die.

But sometimes, they do it because they believe the world is better off without them. They believe they are worthless, or even of negative value.

And I would argue that, most of the time, it is not they who are negative, but the judgmental people who bully them even more for their struggles.

My personal experience was that one of my best friends in high school, and my youngest son, committed suicide.

I'm sorry. I wasn't trying to upset you. We all have personal experiences that cause us to think as we do.

It didn't upset me. I am perfectly capable and willing to face reality.

That has to be a real flaming slice of hell on earth. So sorry.

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

Mental illness has taken yet another great!

May he rest in peace.

May we someday find an answer for cancer of the mind.

Hear, hear!

Some slightly lesser-known Robin Williams movies I enjoyed...

The World According to Garp
The Survivors (with Walter Matthau)
Moscow on the Hudson
the Birdcage (hilarious, with Gene Hackman and Nathan Lane)

... but my favorite Robin Wiliams role...

My favorite of his ever was "The Fisher King". He was such a diverse actor and character, that it's hard to settle on just one favorite, but his role in that movie was just so hilarious and so sad. It touched on all emotions.

Re: [RIP]Robin Williams Dead at 63 [W:194]

Very sad indeed. And to think morons like Limbaugh have to make this into something political.

That's my fave too, Lizzie.

I liked him in "Good Will Hunting", but he really was not my cup of Tea. His comedy could get a little annoying, so I liked him as an actor more than a comic. I don't think I ever watched a full episode of "Mork & Mindy", even though it was a number one show. Still, even if he was a plumber that no one knew, it is a tragedy.

Clinical depression definitely works like a downward spiral in that sense. Those who do come back from it always seem to have other people close to them who believe in them, support them emotionally, and help them in other ways.

Re: [RIP]Robin Williams Dead at 63 [W:194]

His tv show was just awful. I think this was more depression than drugs though. Asphyxiation isn't the suicide of a druggie.

Right, it's usually OD.

Re: [RIP]Robin Williams Dead at 63 [W:194]

Yes, I was watching a clip just this morning, and admiring that hair. Back in the day, men were hairy, and we liked it. Some of us still do.

Robin had hair on his hair. Dude was a beast.

Re: [RIP]Robin Williams Dead at 63 [W:194]

Right, it's usually OD.

The details officials indicated he used a belt and had tried to cut his wrists with a pocket knife. A currently addicted druggie would've just overdosed.

What did Limbaugh do?

Um, no offense, but how could your youngest son have been one of your best friends in high school? The math doesn't quite work. ;)

What did Limbaugh do?

Said he commited suicide because of his leftist world views..
